The men's final marked a first for Princess Charlotte, who did not join her older brother and parents at last year's championship. The Princess of Wales is royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, a role she took over from the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2017.

  1. So, here she is in a sheath-dress, as requested from so many of you. Too long? Too many creases? Too much going on on the left shoulder? Too unruly/long hair? Too muach/heavy makeup? What is it this time? I am much looking forward to the comments. Indeed, I am. Of course, none of the royal ladies featured on this blog are perfect. Also, the PoW isn't. I happened to not like some particulars here and there in what she'd been wearing myself. But I can always elaborate, I try to put out my criticism in a moderate and polite way. Just saying "it's boring" doesn't lead anywhere. It's, in fact, rather immature.

I would love to hear your opinion about this look instead of your opinion about other commenters.

I quite like the dress, it's a bit more modern than what she's been wearing lately. Lovely hair and make-up, as always recently.
PS: I can't imagine anyone ever said her hair was unruly. People might think it's too long but it's certainly never unruly. If she'd sell a hairproduct line, it would be a massive success.

DSC hi Rachel, nice of you to leave your oh so boring comments about Catherine. From my personal opinion, she looked lovely, hair neither too short or too long, too straight or to curly. Make up was fine as usual, eye glasses just right for an outdoor sport, dress nice summer quality dress, again, neither too long or short, nothing to fussy, in fact, just right, not too mature nor immature. The family, William is impeccable as usual, the children dressed well in age appropriate clothing and learning about the inner workings of a well loved sport. Edwina

    7. Dear Edwina, it seems you must have mistaken my above comment completely. I am a regular commentor on this blog and - perhaps others will agree - I mostly comment in favour of Catherine, PoW. I fail to see how you could come to a different - and totally wrong - conclusion. For those who asked me on my opinion on the green Roland Mouret outfit: I like it. It is the welcome change from the pleated skirts she donned most recently, though she seems to like the green hues this time around in Wimbledon. The fabric tends to crease easily, which obvioulsy shows after some time in the car. Personally, I do like her hair better in that half-up style she sported yesterday at the Women's Final, but that's really no big deal. All is well, so far.

Beautiful dress in a beautiful colour. I love the detail on the bodice which elevates it from a simple shift. Yes it’s on the long side and it has crushed after sitting for five hours (quelle surprise!) but still a lovely dress. The children look terrific and their Dad’s not bad either. Lovely to see King Felipe there supporting Alcaraz ( as it was to see CP Frederik supporting Rune earlier in the week)

Sorry DSC but I feel I just have to complain. I do not like any garment that wrinkles as badly as this does. Wrong fabric? Too tight? I don't know but it does not look good. The dress itself is of good design so it´s a pity it looks so crumpled.

Fabrics wrinkle. Some worse than others, especially natural fabrics. If the creases are from sitting, it does not bother me in the least. It is far better than wearing a poly blend to keep the wrinkles at bay. I am more concerned by the fact that she has a very similar dress that she wore to Wimbledon a few years back. Sometimes I wonder if she is buying clothes because she can. I like this dress a lot, more than the other green Wimbledon dress in fact, but she has had a lot of fashion fails to my eye. At least this one has a more classic look.

I was having a thorough second look and I think the dress is not too tight, neither the sleeves, nor anything else. The fabric just creases easily. Of course it does come from sitting and moving but knowing this does not make the look of it any better. Catherine's photos are distributed worldwide, so naturally, the fabric has to be considered too. Maybe some of you will remember the shift dress she wore 2011 when meeting the Obamas? Pure perfection, and I am sure she was sitting in a car before the meeting. This is just an accident, not a tragedy, of course, but let's call things what they are and this appearance was not one of her best :-)

My mistake. There is a very similar dress in wool/silk blend. A pity she did not choose that one. Viscose wrinkles badly and only works in looser fitted clothes.

The Princess of Wales looks lovely in this Kelly green - it’s such a flattering color on her. And, I very much like the tailored look. If I were to tweak the look, I might remove the asymmetrical details and add a narrow self-fabric belt. But, it looks very good as is and the beige accessories look so much better to my eyes than matching green ones would have.

@ Anya. Now that she is wearing finally a lovely dress, you will make it "boring" by removing the asymmetrical detail on the left shoulder and add a silly belt. The only thing I would change is the length. It is too long on the model too. I like her shoes and handbag. @ Ladyofthemanor. There are wrinkles yes but I've always heard, if you see wrinkles it is because it is good quality. Polyester don't make wrinkles but is the most polluting material on the textile market. Rose

      Delete
    2. Anonymous17/7/23 13:44

@rose good quality fabrics do not wrinkle as badly as this. This is viscose, sometimes called natural fiber but is terribly environment unfriendly in its production. A fine wool or wool/silk blend as in a very similar dress by the same designer will not wrinkle as badly.

The dress wrinkles too badly and when fully visible, i.e. she is standing or walking, this ruins the whole appearance for me. Probably bad choice of fabric for this type of dress (or bad choice of dress for this occasion). I adore Catherine in shift dresses, but not with this length. This one is too long for my liking. Nice colour on her. It matches the refs striped shirts a Wimbeldon colour. I like the top of the dress but it is too tight, tugging at the sleeve. This dress is just a bit too long and tight. This could cause the creases. A belt or some texture or something at the waist would help break up her long torso and give it a better overall look.

I'm fine with the dress. Neither here nor there for me. Perfectly serviceable, stylish and appropriate. I agree about Charlottes dress. On the other hand I find Prince George's suit too old for him. And he's wearing the same shoes like his dad ?. If he must be dressed that formal for Wimbledon they could have bought him a jacket like Prince William. Or the combination of light blue or off-white trousers and a navy blazer. At least he would have looked less stiff. Why must he wear a tie like this ? To me it looks not normal for a boy of his age. If they wish to modernize the Royal House, like they do in many kingdoms these days, they missed an opportunity to do so. After all Charlotte and George are still children who would have any objection if they both wore more up-to-date clothes (and I do not mean jeans pants and jeans jackets, there are plenty of beautiful clothes for children these days).

      Delete
    2. Anonymous19/7/23 22:11

Disagree with each of you. Charlotte is a little girl, she’s 8 and the dress is perfect for her. In any case, smocking has been evident on many adult dresses this season so the baby comment doesn’t stand up
The dress code for the Royal box includes jacket and tie for men. This includes minors. In any event, he looks smart and is probably wearing something similar to what he wears to school

@AnnieM. In my country even in the schools with the best reputation where the children of the royals are going to school there are no uniforms any more. Girls or boys can wear the clothes their parents bought for them. It does not mean they can wear anything they want. But they can wear bright colors and comfortable clothes what young children are usually wearing these days. Boys have plenty of time to wear a suit and girls can wear pants if they like. It is 2023 not 1923.

Beautiful look from Catherine--that emerald green is such a marvelous color on her. She looks gorgeous. Yes, the fabric is wrinkled from sitting--a rare ooops from her--but I don't find it to be such a distraction that I suddenly don't like her whole look. Her earrings are great--I looked them up and they are very affordable for being real gemstone earrings. The cut of this dress as well as the length are wonderful for her--both highlight her figure while still being ladylike and business-like (she is patron of Wimbledon and the All England club). Her straight hair is exactly what is needed with the dress--curls would have taken away from the neckline. As for the rest of the family--William looks summer smart in his blazer and tie, George is quite dapper in his navy suit, and Charlotte looks very pretty in her summer frock--which is totally age appropriate. I also LOVE Charlotte's sunglasses--very chic!

The colour of the dress is very flattering.I loved the earrings and the biscuit coloured accessories. I would say,I’d be disappointed having spent so much on a dress that it would crease so easily. It’s just one of those things.

Just because she is so tall and slim the longer length is not a good idea. It makes her even longer. A shorter skirt cuts the length in two parts which make her look less like a green column. Rose

I like this dress as well. If she is going to wear a longer length, this is the kind of dress that can handle it. When she walks, it looks shorter. Victoria Beckham wears a similar length sheath and rocks it. The rest of the time her hems are too long.
