The Belgian Royal Palace has released new official photos of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of King Philippe’s accession to the throne. Ten photos, four of which show the King and Queen together, were taken by Michel Gronemberger at the Palace of Laeken.
Both the King and Queen wore the Order of the Leopold for the formal images. Queen Mathilde also wore the diamond Nine Provinces Tiara. King Philippe became Belgium's King after the abdication of his father King Albert II on July 21, 2013, Belgium’s National Day.
Congratulations to TM K Philippe and Q Mathilde. These photos are gorgeous. I’ve often thought through the years since the King’s accession that the Queen is really adept at choosing her clothing and jewels for these periodic photo sessions. She rarely, if ever, puts a foot wrong for these and her look is beautiful and unmistakably regal. The color of the evening dress is luscious and this may be the first time I’ve seen a dress where I actually liked crystal pleating. It fits the Queen beautifully and is so flattering. This one is a “Wow” for me. The white dress is great too and again, while I usually really dislike asymmetrical design details on clothing, I make an exception here - the detail elevates the dress to a higher level.

Completely agree!
DeleteWow. I think Mathilde looks sensational in both outfits.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen's gown is a repeat from their state visit to Luxembourg back in 2019. And the white dress/informal photo, I believe was taken the same time during their Christmas family photo last year.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous pictures. Mathilde’s gown is a stunningly beautiful color with lovely almost magical details and is very flattering. Love that it coordinates with the King’s sash.
ReplyDeleteQuelles magnifiques photos officielles. Dès la première, Mathilde est vêtue d'une robe dont le style et la couleur la subliment. surtout avec le diadème, elle est parfaite !
ReplyDeleteStunning couple. Happy 10th Throne Anniversary, Your Majesties.
ReplyDeleteWow!
ReplyDeleteIf I may : although their children's name is " de Belgique " = of Belgium, except for princess Elisabeth who is duchess of Brabant, they are king and queen of the Belgians... 😉
ReplyDeleteThe crown princess' name is also "de Belgique". On her military uniform her name was Elisabeth van België since she followed the training in Dutch. On his military uniform prince Gabriel's name is Gabriel van Saksen-Coburg (Saxe-Cobourg in French). He also followed the training in Dutch. Duchess of Brabant is the title she received from her father Duke of Brabant when he became king. It is not a family name. But you are right since Leopold I of Sachsen-Cobourg the king and queen are called (first the names....) King and Queen of the Belgians.
DeleteIf I may: although their children's name is " de Belgique" for us, Belgians, it's important to note that they are king and queen of the Belgians. Arrgos

ReplyDeleteMathilde looks wonderful on these photos!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. The pleated evening gown is gorgeous and suits her well. Her tiara and diamond earrings are superb. Love the white dress, the interesting feature on her shoulder giving interest. She looks very elegant.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen is beautiful as usual.
ReplyDeleteGreat colour for Mathilde! Zofia
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, for sure. But for those of us who are used to seeing both the King and Queen regularly, in everyday situations, on the pages of this blog, I can't help but feel that the images of Mathilde have been 'touched-up' too much. Her gown though is beautiful.

That's what I thought as well, certainly on the photos with the white dress. Why? She is a naturally good-looking woman!
DeleteOfficial pictures of kings and queens, princes and princesses are always 'touched-up' or photoshopped. The king his wrinkles have disappeared too. Queen Mathilde's make-up is very beautiful here. She is not made-up like this during her daily work (visits, participations, etc...) only on special occasions. I remember the official photo's of King Charles and Queen Camilla : they looked almost 20 years younger.
DeleteSpectacular gown! Most importantly, ALL her dresses, gowns and suits should be like this, with a slightly lower waistline.

I agree. That purple dress gives her a fabulous silhouette
DeleteAgree. Anna
DeleteQ Mathilde looks stunning in both pictures. The purple gown is the winner in MO. But to be fair the King looks good to. css
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. I have to say they both nailed it. The Queens formal dress is a wonderful colour on her.
ReplyDeleteStunning photos of the Queen and King! Mathilde looks stunning in the ball gown - great color and style for her figure. Wonderful hair style and makeup! MR
ReplyDeleteAgree with all these positive comments. Great photos and the fabulous gown deserves a special mention. What a fine looking couple they are.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos!!! Mathilde looks stunning--what a beautiful gown!

This purple dress and styling has to be one of M best ever. Gorgeous. The white dress is pretty too, not a fan of her hairstyle. So first outfit 10 of 10. The white 8 of 10. PS the King looks handsome too ;)

ReplyDeleteCongratulations for the10th anniversary. May there be many more decades to follow. A King and Queen to be proud of by their countrymen.
@Louise. The color of the dress by Armani is not purple but "magenta". I don't know if that word exists in English. On former official pictures Queen Mathilde wore also a gala gown in this color. The stylists say that the queen specially has chosen this color because the sash is magenta too and if you look carefully to the king's uniform there is thin line of the same color in his pants and on the cuffs of the sleeves. The white outfit is more a daily style and so is her hair the dress is designed by Natan and she wore it when Queen Camilla invited all the other queens for tea (before the coronation took place). Rose
ReplyDeletePurple, magenta whatever color. Sometimes the need to put someone right leaves me dumbfounded ;)
DeleteBeautiful dresses both of them. The official photos are fab and I love to see the full version of the tiara.
