On July 1, 2023, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of The Netherlands, and Prime Minister Rutte attended the National Commemoration of the History of Slavery at Oosterpark in Amsterdam. The Royal couple laid the first wreath. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the end of slavery in the Dutch colonies.
The National Commemoration of the History of Slavery started with the commemoration at Oosterpark and the Keti Koti Festival on Museumplein. Ketikoti, sometimes spelled as Keti Koti ("the chain is cut" or "the chain is broken"), or officially Day of the Freedoms is an annual celebration on July 1 that marks Emancipation Day in Suriname.
Queen Maxima looking elegant, looks like something Charlene would wear.
ReplyDeleteKing made an apology for the Dutch role in slavery. This will put pressure on other leaders. I think we should 'let bygones be bygones' as Nelson Mandela said lets move forward.
You're looking good here Q. Maxima!! Color and style are appropriate and jewelry minimum. Good job!!
ReplyDeletemaxima looks good
ReplyDeleteThe King and Queen are dressed appropriately and look very nice. Maxima’s dress is a fantastic cut and the hat/accessories are perfectly paired for an overall great outfit.
ReplyDeleteLe couple royal a su adopter un look adéquat pour assister à cette commémoration ; la robe de Maxima est bien combinée avec son chapeau ainsi que ses accessoires !
ReplyDeleteGiven the circumstances, she's wearing the right outfit. But the dress is too tight and doesn't fit her well, and the skirt is wrinkled.
ReplyDeleteIn general I like this ”New Look” style but this is too tight and therefore too wrinkled.

I often struggle with Maxima’s sartorial choices but am happy to say that she looks really good here. Appropriate and attractive—navy is a good color for her and I really like the “new look” lines.
ReplyDeleteRemembrance Day of the past. A sad day in History indeed. But as we all know Slavery will never end, as long as there is Demand and Supply, it just is a different type of Slavery. It seems Humanity did not learn from the Past. I really like the navy dress of Q Maxima. Nice the Royal Couple have been there. css
ReplyDeleteI agree with all your comments, both about modern slavery, and Maxima's smart outfit. I love her hat as well.

This is a very smart looking ensemble. I love the navy color, her hat is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteOutfits are so irrelevant in this particular situation. What is so remarkable is the king’s honest admission of the monarchy’s wrongdoing. Hopefully others will follow the example (although I won’t hold my breath for that to happen soon).

The hat is nice, the dress, in a somber colour, but is very wrinkly, and the low cut neckline seems out of place for the occasion. Edwina
