On June 23, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands visited the Historic Museum Loosduinen to mark the 100th anniversary of the Loosduinen Commission. The committee was set up as an agricultural and horticultural committee. Consisting of a granary, a mill and a garden, this museum presents the history of Loosduinen, an old neighbourhood of The Hague.
On June 23, Queen Maxima of The Netherlands and Minister for the Environment Vivianne Heijnen paid a working visit to Zeeman clothing store in Alphen aan den Rijn. Zeeman is a Dutch chain store with 1,300 establishments in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Austria, Spain and Portugal.
Usually I always find some redeeming feature in Maxima's looks, but I'm afraid this one is beyond saving. Starting with the hat - I get that it's supposed to mirror the pattern on the dress (blouse/skirt?), but it's not placed well, too small and doesn't go with this hairstyle. It looks like it was dumped on her head as an afterthought. The dress itself, while an interesting colour, is just oddly shaped and despite the volume seems to be pulling and tugging everywhere. The fabric looks like a table cloth. While she's standing still, it seems to be okay, but the walking picture is not flattering. It's also day 20348573489 of me hating her gloves. Sorry Maxima!

100% support for your analysis.
DeleteAgree in every aspect! A
DeleteFrom hat to toe she is embarrassingly ridiculous.Sorry.
ReplyDeleteNot a good choice, the colour, the style, the fit, everything is wrong.
ReplyDeleteMJT
Better without the hat !
ReplyDeleteSuz
My opinion as well
DeleteI like Maxima but this outfit is just atrocious! The style of the dress and its sick green color is awful. And the hat looks like last year’s left over Christmas ribbon candy. The net gloves are interesting though they probably get snagged on her jewelry. But she does have a wonderful smile!
ReplyDeleteWhat happened?
ReplyDeleteLooks like her hair fell out of it's style and she lost her hat part way through the event.
Good grief!
...Marie
This were 2 different occasions at the same day. The hat was introduced with the afternoon (second) occasion.
DeleteCette couleur vert-anis -selon les photos- est très rafraîchissante ; j'adore les bijoux dont en particulier le bracelet ; que représentent ses pierres ?!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to like the outfit, but hm ... e.
ReplyDeleteWhat a dissipointing outfit. After all the good choices she made in Belgium, everything about this outfit is wrong
ReplyDeleteWhat a dissipointing outfit. After all the good choices she made in Belgium, everything about this outfit is wrong
ReplyDeleteHere we go again, she has us all in 'aw' with her gala looks, just to crash us again with one of her normal looks. Oh well the rollercoaster continues
ReplyDeleteLuna
I've said so many times before that it's a cat and mouse game with Maxima.
DeleteIn the end, I wonder 'who's laughing at who'.
She did not lose her hat: it was two events on one day, first museum, then clothing chain, not really clear from the title, that's true. And as her companion for the 2nd visit does not really look any better, maybe this was a competition, who dresses worse for the visit of a clothing chain? (GM)
ReplyDeleteBut she did lose the hat at the end of the windmill visit. It fell off when she got in the car. I don’t mind the colour of the dress but the whole design is awful. Km
DeleteThis is just dreadful.
ReplyDeleteLadyofthemanor
After the state-visit she is already on 2 places the day after she returned to the Netherlands. First she went to the Historic museum with hat and gloves, afterwards to Zeeman and she left the hat and the gloves in the car. The dress itself is not bad for these visits but it is not like the dresses she worn during the state visit.
ReplyDeleteIf you don't like olive green you will not like the dress. She seems to like the gloves which she has in different colors. I like the bracelet. If you look carefully at the pictures she even changed the bracelet for the 2nd visit to Zeeman.
I am ever so sorry but no, absolutely no
ReplyDeleteI am ever so sorry but no, absolutely no
ReplyDeleteOh Maxima! Not a redeeming feature in the whole look. What happened to the rest of her hair?
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world is this look? That dress is awful, from the color to the cut. The balloon sleeves to the awkward gathering at the waist, not to mention the color. The hat looks like a homemade craft project. And those gloves. Fli mean, what's the point of mesh gloves outside of an 80's night.

Q Maxima likes strong colors. It could be better. css
ReplyDeletePeople are really critical on here.
ReplyDeleteQuite simply, from head to toe, this is a "No"
ReplyDeleteA striking, individual outfit.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Ava.
DeleteI like this outfit as a whole but I wish Q.Maxima would have diched those gloves!
Anyway, it is just Max being veryyy Max👍
Laughable all in all in combination with that fake tail and gloves. Betty
ReplyDeleteAfter her recent “wow” successes, Maxima is getting back to her usual fashion self.
ReplyDeleteCan’t help but love her. She is unique.😁
The loves are the best, lol
ReplyDeleteAva
Can Maxima pls get rid of these gloves all the time. It's so old fashioned. Colours hat and dress don't match in my view. I don't like the way the sleeves look.
ReplyDeleteAs a few other commenters have said above, people can be highly critical on this site, posting as if it’s their right to criticise another doing her best. We have no right. We might comment on fashion but so many comments are directed unkindly at the person wearing the clothes. Remember it’s a public blog and anyone may read it, including her children; you’d hate to hurt them surely. Let’s be kind. - AnneLise
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteA striking outfit and a huge generous smile to top it off. If you look closely the detail colour on the dress exactly matches the hat; and the detail colour on the hat ribbon exactly matches the dress.
ReplyDeleteNo fashion sense here - almost - you got it right! Thank you!
DeleteI must say that I applaud Maxima! She tends to stay true to herself, she always treat us with many interesting details in the styling choices. And most importantly, she seem happy and confident no matter what she puts on. What a role model!
ReplyDeleteAlthough it’s not always my own cup of tea I am always intrigued to s see what she has come up with this time. It is never boring at least!
This time I have pondered, what colour is that dress truly? Green? Yellow? Golden? It seem to shift in the lights/photos.
The colour is probably closest to chartreuse.

I think she looks wonderful, from head to toe !
ReplyDeleteOh my...sorry but no. Someone needs to throw those "gloves" away so she can't ever wear them again.
ReplyDeleteJanet
I've been away and am just seeing this.
ReplyDeleteOne thing that can never be said is that Maxima is boring in her style choices. She may not always hit the mark (though I think she usually does), but I applaud her for taking risks, choosing different styles and colours, and wearing them boldly and confidently. There is a lot one can learn from that. Love her for stepping out of the box.

Although this outfit is awful, the close up photos of the accessories are very interesting.
ReplyDeleteOnce in a while, QM has this exagerated "Evita's outbreak" that make wear e costume instead of clothes...
ReplyDeleteWhat a mess of an outfit, gone are the long flowing locks, back to the thin fly away hair, that should have been pulled into a low pony tail, the weird hate, strange dress, ugly gloves, and garish ring.
