On June 3, Queen Mathilde and Princess Eleonore of Belgium attended the final of The Queen Elisabeth Voice Competition 2023 at the Center for Fine Arts (BOZAR) in Brussels. Baritone Taehan Kim wins the 2023 Voice Competition. Taehan Kim currently studies at the College of Music of Seoul National University, where he is taught by Gunyoung Na.
MAJE Shiny Fluid Silk Dress
Both mother and daughter are nicely dressed for this event and I like both dresses - including the ruffles and uneven hems. Mathilde looks particularly summery with this loose, free-flowing dress. The collar looks interesting; wish we had a closer view of it.

It is not a collar. I think it is what the designers call a "dress jewel". It is something that is sometimes attached (or not) to the dress. It can be flowers or branches or something that reminds scallops or other sea fauna..., sometimes it is made of a natural material, sometimes it is a synthetic piece of art.
DeleteSeems like only yesterday that Princess Eleonore was a small child. Suddenly she is a beautiful young lady, wearing heels and almost as tall as her mother. Her dress is very pretty and fits her perfectly. Is the Queen's dress new? I don't remember seeing it previously. On another site they described the treatment of the collar as a touch of "whimsy." The Queen wears this shade of yellow nicely.
ReplyDeleteEleonore looks so grown! so beautiful. Her style of dresses seems to be consitent mid length, sometimes with ruffles
DeleteEleonore looks lovely. I like this yellow colour on Mathilde and I very much like her shoes. The model of the dress (by Natan) is not really flattering but it's still elegant. Unfortunately the accent around the neck looks quite ridiculous in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of this yellow gown, but it appears shapeless. The top part across the shoulders is unusual. The collar appears to have something, not sure what? The hemline is a no, I don't like uneven hems. Her shoes look divine, strappy and lovely color.
ReplyDeletePrincess Eleonore looks pretty, but again the uneven hem and the tiered frills I don't like. Regardless of my tastes both royal ladies look lovely.
Current fashion design digs everywhere for inspiration; it results in adjusted or "shapeless" clothing. The global result ( nice, attractive or not) is the key issue. I think this dress is a success" although I would not chose it for myself. Changing specific features as Ava suggests, would spoil the overall result.
DeleteWhat a beautiful color on the Queen, and I love the style on her as it doesn’t accentuate the mid section and looks so regal on her. The princess makes me feel old as she has grown into a lovely young lady with great taste. MR
ReplyDeleteP. Eleonore looks absolutely delightful in this frothy dress! On the other hand Q. Mathilde has chosen a gown? a smock? a housecoat? that is definitely not her best look. The colour is great but to me it has 3 strikes against it - the high ruffled neckline, the uneven hem, and the tent like shape. Please Q.M. don’t wear this one again! (V.M.)
ReplyDeletePrincess Eleanore looks delightful in this perfect summer dress, Queen Mathilde is very yellow! I think a paler lemon yellow might have been less overpowering. Nice style of outfit, though
ReplyDeleteAnnieM
I admire Queen Mathilde for her choice of modern sometimes a bit extravagant dresses. All the stylist say that she is wonderful in yellow. It is true. Also like her Christian Dior very high heeled golden sandals. One could say that this dress is an homage to Queen Elisabeth the founder of this contest : she dressed also in flowing longer dresses (even when it was not fashion) and until she died she wore mostly white or cream colors.
ReplyDeletePrincess Eleonore is a lovely and beautiful young princess. I like her Maje dress and her shoes with kitten heels. I hope from now on that she leaves her ballerina's at home..
Not my favorite dress on Queen Mathilde. The expanse of neon yellow reminds me of "Big Bird" dresses of Norway's Queen Sonja, and the feather froth high on the neck is reminiscent of Queen Maxima, plus the tent-like silhouette makes it look like a maternity dress. Cannot imagine what QM was thinking when she acquired this parachute. Please donate or archive this "dress" immediately! S.M.
ReplyDeleteTotally don’t agree with you. The big bird joke is an old one. Not funny. And dresses don’t need to be classic tailoring all the time. This is a stylish and fun dress for the occasion. This is nowhere near a tent! Great color and elegant shoes !
DeleteFully agree with anon 13:52
DeleteI agree with 13:52. I don't know what screen you have 5/6/23 7:29 but the dress is not neon yellow. To me it looks like a warm yellow.
DeletePrincess Eleonore’s dress is well suited for the occasion and for a fifteen year old Princess (born April 2008).
ReplyDeleteMaybe she is attending this event as she has an interest in music.
She is a young violinist.
Sorry but I don’t understand what’s happening with Queen Mathilde’s dress.
The colour I like but for the rest ?
Maybe some close up photos would help me to do some nitpicking.
So I’ll do the polite thing and just move on.
Over to you dear fellow bloggers.
Sorry, I agree with anonym 13:52
DeleteIt is the custom in Belgium that the Queen who assists at all the sessions bring somebody with her. Sometimes it is one of her children, in the past she was accompanied by CP Elisabeth too. Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz also have been to one of the sessions this year. I think QM will be accompanied by the King for the closing concert.
DeleteI like tthe yellow gown with the cape like draping and a bit of feather fun. I can even overlook the uneven hem as I find the dress summery and a bit querky.

ReplyDeleteUneven hems: I don't understand it. They do nothing for anybody. But yellow is really good for Mathilde. This is about everything in goodness that I can say about her dress. As for Eleonore, I am sure she has to find her own style yet and I hope she will find one that is different from whoever's taste it was to suggest this dress. So many flowers, pastels, transparencies, fluffs and ruffles - the sum of it is comparable to a to a meal, after which I would suggest cold and pure water in considerable amounts to clean up the taste buds. Being 15 does not explain it for me.

PS: I remembered this re-wear dress the moment I saw it. Both sisters wore very similar dresses last year, I remembere well my astonishment at the double fluff :-). Newmyroyal has photos, copy-paste and delete the blanks to go there: www . newmyroyals.com/2022/09/belgiums-royal-family-attended-wedding.html (Gloria)
DeleteThe dress is by Maje a brand that is known for its design for young
Deletegirls. CP Elisabeth also had dresses by this brand when she was younger. Even Pippa Middleton had a dress once (not being a young girl anymore at that time) by this brand.

DeleteYou have a good memory.
Thanks for the link.
I think the dress is appropriate for a young girl/lady.
Good to see the family contributing to fashion sustainability.
Leonora is such a beautiful young lady. Both are stylishly dressed.

This is good, but not great on Queen Mathilde. The color is wonderful on her, and the dress is mostly good. What's horrible is the feather version of Maxima's "orange lobster" neck accent. (Really, what does the designer sell it as? What is it called? It's not a necklace.) It looked awful on Maxima, and this feather version doesn't look any better on Mathilde. I'll give any minors a pass on what they wear as long as they look presentable, as was the case with Eleonore.
