On June 11, 2023, Princess Mabel of The Netherlands attended the Amsterdam Dinner 2023, a charity event aiming to raise money for the Aids Foundation. The charity event was initiated in 1992 when the HIV epidemic hit the Netherlands. As in previous years, most of the proceeds of the 31st edition will go to the H-TEAM.
Love the dress, not sure about the length on Mabel, perhaps just a few inches longer would give it a more classy look on her….imo
ReplyDeleteAlways good to see Princess Mabel. Totally agree with your comment. Lovely dress which would look much better if several inches longer

Mabel looks happy and that for me is the best dressed look. I don’t particularly like the dress but she looks fantastic in it … which is the magic of clothes, so good on her. Whereas the two men with their matching heavy framed black glasses, they suit one man roughly ok and the other not at all, but perhaps both have chosen these framed because they are currently fashionable even if not necessarily suiting their faces. I much prefer people wearing what really suits them than what is fashionable which occasionally can look ridiculous on the wrong person (or even most people!) - AnneLise
ReplyDeleteThe two men are Victor and Rolf, fashion designers
DeleteThese men are Victor&Rolf, very well known designers. I think the dress is also from them
DeleteThe 2 men are actually Viktor & Rolf. They are the fashiondesigners that made Mabels wedding dress and i think they made this dress too as it has a bow on the back. Bows are distinctive designdetail of Viktor & Rolf. They always wear the glasses, that is how i knew it was them. I actually never tought if the glasses suit them. Nice to read an opinion about that and think about it.
DeleteThose two men are Viktor & Rolf. I think they were born with those glasses.
DeleteNice dress, but to short for her, plus a pair of stockings would have been very nice. OMO of course. css
ReplyDeleteHow lovely Mabel looks--the pearl designs on her dress, especially the back, is beautiful. I love her earrings.

We haven't heard from her quite in a while. Good to have her back. The dress reminds me of the late Sixties, early Seventies. Princess Mabel loves vintage looks, no huge surprise here. I like it, though the shapeless style does not fully convince me. It rarely does.
ReplyDeleteBack then the shoes would have been one inch heel with bow at the front. They went better with short hemline.
DeletePrincess Mabel has her own confident and unique style, and often wears clothes from Victor and Rolf. I wonder if this dress is one of their designs? In any case I think she looks great here. She loves bows, and I notice there’s a small one at the back of the collar. (V.M.)
ReplyDelete@ V.M Yes the design of this dress is by Victor and Rolf as was her wedding dress. They are at the dinner party too (see pictures N° 1 & 2)
DeleteI think it must be Viktor & Rolf due to the bow in the back and the designers accompying her (men in the glasses)
DeleteShe is a lovely woman. But this dress looks as if she prepared for a sixties vintage costume ball and when she noticed that this is not the case, it was too late to change into something else. Some of you will remember Twiggy, she could have worn this dress.

@ GM. You make it sound as this dress is a mistake. Remember Princess Maria Laura, daughter of Princess Astrid of Belgium wedding dress : the short dress she wore for the civil wedding last year had that style even the shoes by Gucci with block heels looked like those we wore in the sixtees. Madame Macron the first lady of France wears this style of dresses (made by Louis Vuitton) regularly except for the block heels. Every style is coming back regularly in fashion land.
Delete@anon 07:43: Maybe I was not clear enough, sorry for that. To wear vintage is, of course, not generally a mistake! I know this type of Sixties' vintage dress, I was a teenager at that time, we called them actually "sack dress" and loved them. Nevertheless, I do think that this dress and Mabel is not a match made in heaven but a mistake. It is the sum of length, colour, a certain "sweetness" of the design suggestive of extreme youthfulness etc. that makes it a suboptimal choice for me. But - of course no insistence on my part, it is just my opinion.

I love this dress, but not the length. I feel a little longer would have been more elegant looking. The dress has some very interesting features, neckline and the back view looks great. Its lovely to see her happy, enjoying herself and engaging.
ReplyDeleteDidn’t we all wear this dress in 1969?! 😂
ReplyDeleteIt was a Vogue pattern and I made it myself for my Freshman year Homecoming. Agree that we wore it with one-inch heels with bows. And yes we wore them this short and that’s when pantyhose came into the picture. 🤪
Interesting! I was married in the late 60s. The only difference with my wedding dress was that it was full length.
DeleteShe can carry a short dress without looking inappropriate. And it fits her weight. So, I will applaud her choice.
ReplyDeletePetra
I like her style; everything is just right; hair earrings, dress. She looks happy and is enjoying herself (Tara)
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with the length? I love it just like that. If it would be longer it wouldn't look so good anymore. It would look like a white sack. She looks very fresh and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you - it's actually quite a modest short dress.
DeleteMabel has been loyal to the designers duo Victor and Ralph since her wedding dress, although they design merely baby- dolls for her. This one is slightly longer than last year’s so a bit better but still very predictable.
ReplyDeleteMabel
Indeed Princess Mabel wore a similar dress last year and it was not favourably commented on :

A mon avis, c'est une robe dont la longueur lui sied à merveille avec des points particuliers ; jolies ses boucles d'oreilles mais comme il me semble qu'elles sont à clips, je ne les lui emprunterai pas !!
ReplyDeleteMabel est souvent habillée trop court, lorsqu'il manque 3 cm tout se déséquilibre et les vilains genoux cachés (comme disait Gabrielle Chanel) ne seraient pas visibles.
ReplyDeleteA 1950's baby doll style dress.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess has good knees for a 55 year old woman.
Nice to see her out and about.
.
SOooo stylish and quite different than what most Royal ladies wear and I really think she made a good design choice. I think she is the right person for the cause of those who suffer from the HIV/AIDS cause! Fitzhugh
ReplyDeleteIf the dress had been longer it would have been too much white and rectangular with that shape. It still has a white SpongeBob kind feel to it. I’m fór no stockings in the summer if the legs are well groomed.
ReplyDeleteThough Princess Mabel is from the Netherlands she is not a princess of the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands you can be a princess but not belonging to "Het Koninklijk Huis"
Delete(the Royal House). It doesn't mean you cannot keep your title of princess, her late husband was Prince of the Netherlands.
Princess Mabel does not have a substantive titel. Hers is a courtesy title. Her deceased husband was a Prince of The Netherlands. Mabel van Oranje-Nassau was never a Princess of The Netherlands.
ReplyDeleteNice to see Mabel again, and her dress is cute as a button, especially the neck and back detailing.
ReplyDeleteOne of the inspiring quotes from Coco Chanel in the 1920’s was that the skirt should cover the unsightly kneecap. That was the length she considered the most flattering …
ReplyDeleteShe would probably turn in her grave if she saw the micro length of skirts coming out of her fashion house, which still bears her name, today.
She saw women's knees are extremely ugly, and said the best thing to do was to hide them.
