Am I the only one who believes this whole coronation thing is way over the top. Could they have not modernized it?

I agree with you! Also, I don’t understand why they took the second photo…you would think that it’s Camilla’s coronation instead of Charles’!

You’re certainly not the only one. History is very important and traditions root us - but the fuss…. unnecessary.

No. You are not alone. A huge waste of taxpayer money when England has a 10% inflation rate. The coronation would have been the perfect time to have "slimmed down". Maybe one day their subjects will decide it's time to dump the tea in the Thames River, like the colonies.

@ Anonymous 13/5/2023 11:15 and followers. I agree. Lucky you could write down your thoughts. I was trying to write something similar last week but never got the occasion. The whole coronation was a show that is out of place in the world we are living in today.

It was modernised! Cut down to two hours. All faiths included. Women of the cloth taking part.
A woman Lord Privy Council. There was a lot to celebrate, including the nations history. As someone pointed out,the UK hasn’t done that in 70 yrs! Some countries spend that on their elected officials being sworn in every four years. Bea

    6. I read that the whole coronation process was slimmed down (shorter parade, etc...), but what else to do ? No royal coach ? No special clothes ?

      Delete
    7. It was modernised to quite some extent already. I could elaborate but this would certainly be too much on this blog which mainly is meant to be about fashion. Did it ever occur to you that a coronation - and the Archbishop of Canterbury explained much of it in a recent interview - needs to be done because in the UK the monarch also is the highest religious figure and because it is of constitutional significance? Please inform yourself before commenting.

    8. They are perfect. Every event releases official photos.

The return on investment is 100 times. These events boost the economic, do the maths, over a billion people around the world watched, over a million people flew in to London, they
spent $1,000s, and this continues throughout the summer.

''A huge waste of taxpayer money when England has a 10% inflation rate'' this is why the country needed this event to promote the country, this will bring in foreign events eg. tourism. Financial education is needed in schools, so people can be well informed other than resenting the very thing the country needs. The Royal is a huge investment for the country.

      Hello everybody.
I Know I am quite late to comment on the Coronation.
      What can I add!
It was a top caliber event in in every single respect.
I fully agree with @DSC about the importance of gathering accurate information on the religious and constituitonal relevamce of the Monarch's role in U.K. before commenting randomly.
Moreover, I think that the tourism rate and subsequent income have increased considerably thanks to the Coronation ceremonies.
To be honest, misinformation or dare I say ignorance?... and mindless nastiness in so many comments on this blog under the guise of fashion views is what has taken me far away from here up to now..
      Sorry.
My best greetings for all the wise and thoughtful commenters on this blog.
Thank you, Helen for the wonderful posts and pics.

    11. In regard to the comment at 16:56, you will find photos and/or paintings of both the King and the Queen Consort, or the Queen and Prince Consort, for every UK coronation since at least Victoria, and probably many more before that. There is nothing at all out of line here.

    2. I agree somehow with 17:01, but I feel the melancholy is on the side of king Charles III. We can understand that, he is starting his term of office when everyone else is, or has been for quite some tyme, on retirement. Is that a confortable situation ?

      Hello, Ava!
I am sorry for causing you concern about my health and lack of comments.
I'm doing well but still have lots of variation in my shifts so my schedule keeps conditioning my days and I have so little time left to just drop a few lines on this blog.
Your comment has really made my day!
You' re always so nice and kind to me, thank you so much, Ava !!!
I have been missing you and your comments as well!
As I explained in my comment above, there was another reason which restrained me from commenting on our beloved royals but I think we all have to dance to dysfunctional tunes even on a royal fashion blog😉

Maybe i belong to the minority, but I'm so happy the coronation was as it was, grandiose event, lots of symbolic elements and at the same time modernized ( two hours, all faiths included, women in prominent roles, no tiaras, etc) and still it was royal, impressive, unique, historical.
I'm thankful and happy i got an old fashion coronation.
The Belgian and Spanish coronations were very simple. The Dutch was nice and accordingly to the country. So this was a chance to revive history.

    1. You aren't alone. I loved the coronation and I'm not even a big fan of King Charles. Celebrating history, tradition and pageantry are rare nowadays. It's what Britain is famous for and it's what tourists come for. If I'm not mistaken, tourism and the royal family are one of the biggest money-makers for the country. So while everyone is whining about how much the coronation cost the country, they are failing to realize how much money it BROUGHT INTO THE COUNTRY. The country's economy greatly benefits from the royal family. You have to break some eggs to make an omelet ( so the saying goes).

@ Luna. In Belgium there are no coronations. The Belgian king has no crown nor a golden coat. He is not head of the church either. Does not have golden carriages to drive him around. He simply asks his chauffeur to drive him and his family in his Audi or Mercedes to the Parliament where he does exactly the same as King Leopold I of Sachsen Coburg Gotha did in 1830 : swearing an oat before the Belgian Government and signing the necessary documents to make him king. I think most people in our country just like the simplicity of our Royal Family.

Let’s remember that apart from Prince George, The King had three other pages namely: (1) Lord Oliver Cholmondeley (his Dad is the King’s Lord-in-waiting), (2) Master Nicolas Barclay (his great grandfather was the King’s ((Queen Mother)) maternal grandmother’s brother), and (3) Ralph Tollemache (his Dad is the King’s godson and his grandparents are the King’s very close friends).

I THINK THE BRITS SHOULD BE VERY PROUD OF THEIR HERITAGE AND TRADITIONS.They are always so special to watch.AND if you dont pay for it you shouldnt comment.Revenue is much higher than what it cost be thankful.God save the KING.
