Today, on May 17, Norway is celebrating its Constitution Day. The Crown Prince family's celebration started at their home, Skaugum Estate in Asker. Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Prince Sverre Magnus welcomed the traditional children's parade.
Thereafter, in Oslo, King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Prince Sverre Magnus greeted the children's parade and the crowd from the balcony of the Royal Palace.
The very first celebration of May 17 is thought to have taken place in Trondheim in 1815, one year after Norway's Consitution was created and adopted by the national assembly at Eidsvoll. In 1836, the Storting (Norwegian Parliament) celebrated Constitution Day on May 17 for the first time and this is considered to be the date on which May 17 became officially Constitution Day of Norway.
Crown Prince Haakon on the balcony looks like a character in My Fair Lady... Very smart and very handsome. In an era were everyone seems to dress down, he stands out. Well done.

DeleteLOL! That comment caught me off guard. But, yes, still very handsome.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see the king being on the mend apparently. Do we know why Princess Ingrid-Alexandra wasn't around for the celebrations?
ReplyDeleteShe's a "Russ" this year, so will have marched with her graduating class in red overalls. Because Norway..
DeleteShe had the day of. She celebrating her student? Not quite sure what it's called in english. Any way she celebrating her last year on secondary school. The royal court shared photos in late april about this, but this blog never shared this news. https://www.kongehuset.no/aim/kongehuset2/files/7/6/8/00096f694f2e0182af4ec5694876e644bc835c3725/76800096f694f2e0182af4ec5694876e644bc835c3725.jpg/Scale?geometry=375x%3E&Set:quality=100

Where's the beautiful young lady Ingrid?
ReplyDeleteAt school, probably.

Princess Ingrid will finish her basic education this year and she is therefore “a Russ”. Russ celebrations are an important part of norwegian youth culture. The Russ Celebrations begin at the end of April and end on May the 17. They are dressed up in special red Russ clothes and take part of the procession. So my guess is that princess Ingrid is with her friends in the procession, which her parents and grandparents are waving to.
DeleteInteresting! Thanks for the explanation about the Russ celebration 🙂
DeleteIngrid is celebrating the final year of high school, Russ, and spend the day with her friends from school!
ReplyDeleteZij is er vanwege haar studie niet bij.
ReplyDeleteMette Marit looks truly lovely In Norwegian traditional dress. It suits her so well. Is Ingrid Alexandra sick or away?
ReplyDeleteLove the traditional outfits, MM and CP Haakon look beautiful and handsome. Also glad to hear the King is on the mend and out of hospital.

Superbe le couple princier héritier dans son costume national ; ravie de voir que le roi a l'air d'aller mieux !
ReplyDeleteHow marvellous to see the King, looking well. The national costumes are so beautiful. Wonderful photos. CP Haakon particularly looks splendid.
ReplyDeleteIt warms my heart to see this beautiful royal family. They are all look so smart and well groomed in their outfits, including their dog. There is no ostentatious pretext with this family - so down to earth.
ReplyDelete100% agree with you! No fuss, no show off, discreet and inspire warm and friendly persona …
DeleteHandsome CP Haakon and lovely CP MM 🤗
The Crown Prince couple look marvelous in their traditional dress! I really love seeing Mette-Marit in her bunad--she always looks marvelous. Sverre Magnus has become such a handsome young man--and looks just like his mother (at least to me). I love how the CP couple include their beautiful dog on such occasions too. How wonderful to see the King well enough to attend! Queen Sonja is lovely as always.

Mette-Marit looks beautiful in her beautiful bunad. The colors & embroidery are magnificent. Did I say "beautiful", because this bunad was definitely made for her. Outstanding! |Melanie|
ReplyDeleteNice to see them all again. MM National dress looks great. Sverre really has grown, he is a young man now. Glad the King is well again to. Happy National day to all of Norway. css
