The second Buckingham Palace Garden Party was hosted, on behalf of King Charles, by the Prince of Wales. The Prince of Wales was joined by the Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. 8,000 guests were welcomed to Buckingham Palace for the second of the annual Garden Parties.

The PoW dress is a definite winner. she looks stunning and this light blue is spot on. The DoE dress is nice and so the color, but the ruffles I believe would be better for a younger person OMO. Pss Anne and the Dss of Gloucester look nice to. css
ReplyDeleteFor me, far a
DeleteI have opposite views. For me the PoW dress is far away from a winner. Length, bow etc are no.
DeleteWhen demure turns to dowdy. Not a fan of this, too much going on-frills, lace, bows, high neck, long skirt, blue and more blue. Kate is usually elegant but a fail from me. Can’t believe it’s Elie Saab.

DeleteWills and Kate - perfection!
ReplyDeleteLadies, I think all the royal ladies look Beautiful, after all this is a garden party
DeleteOh dear 😂😂
DeleteP. Catherine is lovely today! This dress is sooooooo pretty and feminine and floaty and the color suits her!! D. Sophie looks nice too, and I love both of their hats, which are outstanding!!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, Sophie and Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester look wonderful. I love the delicate looking skirt of the Elie Saab dress - so light and feminine - but I think Catherine's shiny silver shoes are too bright for day time. Matte silver, or a colour similar to the dress would have been better.
ReplyDeleteAs for Anne, she looks great from the waist up - wow, that hat - but the side profile of the skirt looks skimpy and haggard - and too short. Looks like a vintage outfit she dredged from the far, far, far back of her closet.
Umbrellas (not parasols) seem to be part of the dress protocol whether there is a threat of rain or not. William, Edward, Anne and the Duke of Gloucester all have them. (It was a cloudless day in London today.)

it seems like Sophie and Catherine are sharing style tips. Catherine wore it best.
ReplyDeleteAnn is the winner in my opinion
Delete"très la petite maison dans la prairie" ...je parle des tenues des dames 🙄

Not again…
DeleteExcellent comment 😄
DeleteAll the ladies looked lovely. The Duchess of Gloucester always looks chic and her pearl necklace with clasp is stunning. Princess Anne's creamy pearl necklace and her Grima earrings are gorgeous. While Anne never dresses to impress, I believe her hard work and dedication to Great Britain and the Commonwealth is beyond impressive.
ReplyDeleteVery odd photo. Edward & Sophie look so tiny & thin compared to William & Kate. |Melanie|
ReplyDeletePoW looks over the top in this one, reminds me of My Fair Lady. Lovely hair, makeup and earrings. There are lots of photos on another website showing the guests and how they are dressed, such a stark difference between PoW's highly polished look and the guests, I think too stark a difference and I would tone it down a bit if I was her, maybe needs to read the room. Bella
ReplyDeleteAlways!
DeleteThe big blue hats are fantastic. OTT for sure but still gorgeous. While I like the colour of both blue dresses, the very fussy styling is not my favourite. The Duchess of Edinburgh’s stronger blue just edges it imo

Both ladies( Kate and Sophie)look so beautiful. If gals on Little House on the Prairie looked like Kate … as the previous poster noted - that old prairie would be on fire 🔥!!!
ReplyDeleteCatherine's dress is over designed and don't get me started on Sophie's prairie frock. Yikes.
ReplyDeleteI do really like Catherine's earrings, but not with that dress. Too modern looking for her very flouncy dress.
In my opinion your comments are spot on; I didn't like the dress when the PoW wore it for the first time and still don't: it seems so out of place. The same holds for the dress of DoE. Although usually not a big fan of how the PR dresses, she looks so much better than C and S today
DeleteI have always loved this bespoke blue Elie Saab dress ever since Catherine wore it to Ascot a few years ago! So happy she's brought it out and its garden party perfect too. Sophie looks lovely in her blue Suzannah but I am not too sure about the V ruffle across her bust-line--it does look better from the side than from the front. The Princess Royal and the Duchess look elegant in their creams and browns. I like how William seems to have selected a tie to match Catherine's dress.

How can they keep on going back in time like in "My fair lady"? This doesn't fit in a world which is changing every day. I thought that after the death of Queen Elizabeth II a lot of the old traditions would at least be updated. Take the coronation f.ex. I didn't saw much change. Is it really necessary to wear those big crowns and those heavy coats in fur and brocate ? I am glad that in my country the Royal Family keep it simple.
ReplyDeleteBut isn't it wonderful that different countries celebrate their royal families each in their own way? Wouldn't it be boring if every royal family kept it simple?
DeleteAnd in my country there is no monarchy, but i adored the coronation.
DeleteWow, The weather is beautiful, and they are radiant!
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne's hat matches her dress perfectly.
Princess Catherine and Sophie dressed similarly. Both are lovely.
Catherine's earrings, I want!
Duchess of Gloucester wears a beautiful pearl choker.
I've received a lot of feast for my eyes from them over the past few days. Great to see them enjoying conversation with the public without showing any fatigue.
Catherine and Sophie’s hats are lovely and fully accomplish the garden party theme. Their overly ruffled and embellished dresses are too much and look silly. Actually made me giggle, which is not so bad to have a little laugh these days.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the Elie Saab dress, her hat, earrings...everything.

So happy to see the PoW wear this again, I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat blue color looks beautiful on Sophie, I just wish it didn't have the ruffles down the front, but it still looks nice. Love the coordinating hats on these 2 ladies.
The DoG and Princess Anne both look great. All around great job for all.

OMG , die Kleider von Kate und Sophie sehen aus wie Bühnen Kostüme , Altbacken und aus der Zeit gefallen.

DeleteThe Princess Royal looked beautifully groomed in her rewear ensemble, combined with her beautiful gold, pearl and diamond earrings and 3 strand pearl necklace stunning. The Duchess of Gloucester's mulit strand pearl choker looked divine.
ReplyDeleteI cannot say If I like or dislike the dress Catherine is wearing. It feels to me that is pretty but not very modern. It is also do not suit her that well. Her style is not so frilly.
ReplyDeleteBlue is my favourite color but it does not help with these two dresses. DoE would have been so much better without the pinafore ruffles and PoW dress just has too much of everything going on. Princess Anne's coat har beautiful embroidery and a well matched hat.

Some commenters have said the Princess of Wales’ dress is not modern … but does it have to be? Think of this marvellous context: She’s a princess hosting a garden party at Buckingham Palace, and is there to help honour and welcome the guests who are living what will likely be one of the most memorable and delightful moments of their lives! So let’s go for quintessential genteel Englishness, ruffles, bows, hats, feathers and the finest bone china settings for those cups of tea ! She, Anne and Sophie all look perfect for this context!
ReplyDeleteThis comment is perfect! I completely agree that if you’re going for a modern toned-down look, these dresses would not fit the bill. But it’s an English tea-party! At a palace! With royalty! How can a blue frilly dress and hat be out of place. Absolutely love.
DeleteTotally agree with Anonymous 11:27
DeleteThis comment is perfection! I completely agree with this point of view. Were the goal to present a polished, modern silhouette these lovely ladies know how to do that with grace and ease. But this is an English tea party! At a palace! With royalty! I cannot think of a more fitting occasion for ruffles, bows, hats, heels and everything frilly! Absolutely love!
DeleteThank you for your perfect comment.
DeleteRoyal fashion is all about being dressed for the host, the attendees, the season, and the occasion, and with appropriate manners. I sometimes see royals who are beautiful and up-to-date in their outfits but behave in public in a way that humiliates the King.
I can't even imagine Princess Anne or any other royals here behaving in such a way. I like to commend them for the manner befitting them, including their fashion.
J'aime beaucoup la robe en dentelle de Sophie ; Edward est superbe. Très élégante la princesse Anne dans ce manteau brodé avec le chapeau qu'elle a su assortir ; j'aimerais mieux voir son parapluie !
ReplyDeleteI think the dresses and hats of the Princess of Wales and other ladies are correct for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a garden party and frilly dresses, all types of hats and accessories are part and parcel of the deal.
There is almost a kitsch-ness with the scene.
Men with tophats, tea (with milk), finger food, light conversation, ladies and gents’ umbrellas, even though it might be a day with clear skies.
It’s a bit like Ascot without the horses but more refined.
So very "tea and sympathy" British.
What can I say, both in blue. They can do better…
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester look fabulous, as well as Catherine and Sophie. Nice to see Anne was not left out of the photos. She is spectacular, works more than any other royal.
