On May 23, King Carl Gustaf, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia attended the Polar Music Prize 2023 ceremony. The prize-giving ceremony was held at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm. Chris Blackwell, Arvo Pärt and Angélique Kidjo became the winners of the Polar Music Prize 2023. The Polar Music Prize is an international music prize that was established in 1989 by Stig 'Stikkan' Anderson.
H&M Voluminous Tulle Dress in Yellow
byTiMo Bridal Gown
Victoria is stunning! The vibrant sun-bright lemon yellow with her skin tone is fabulous. The side profile picture is particularly great.
ReplyDeleteA neon yellow tulle monstrosity and a flower curtain. No thanks. Amy
ReplyDeleteNot for a brown princess
DeleteI am afraid I have to agree with you.
DeleteSomptueuse Victoria dans ce jaune lumineux ; j'adore la photo où sur le moment, j'ai cru la voir avec une coupe ultra-courte !
ReplyDeleteI would have preferred more fantasy in the hair styling than in the rest.
DeleteThe dress of Victoria ist awful!
ReplyDeleteAgree. She needs to lower the galore affect. Her sister in laws dress is perfect for a princess.
DeleteCP Victoria: a yellow mess... Altough not at her best, this time Sophia wins.
ReplyDeleteYes. And I'm not a Sofia fan.
DeleteTo Anonymous 04:07
Delete"I'm not a Sofia fan."
Why?
Angélique Kidjo is the fashion winner for me.
DeleteRomy B.
I'm so stunned by CP Victoria's departure from her normal look that I am (almost!) speechless' It's fabulous but, given her usual relatively conservative style, dare one say a little overdone? Princess Sofia's dress is at the opposite end of the scale--too pale and nightdressy. .Love Queen Silvia's elegant and classy gown.
ReplyDeleteVictoria is not stunning she just made sure she took centre stage. Dreadful dress, more appropriate for a C lister at a film do!
ReplyDeleteYes, mother always knows best.
DeleteI agree
DeleteI´m a bit torn about this.
ReplyDeleteI like that she is brave here and goes for something unusual and extravagant as she often does for this event. Also, the dress is interesting and she can wear it. Victoria looks good in vibrant colours and even her tight updo works with evening wear. However, I find the yellow too neon, and in the group shot, she just sticks out a lot, especially compared to Silvia´s dark and demure look (although stunning in itself) and Sofia´s pretty but boring dress.
I think this bright yellow puffy asymetric dress really needed to be muted colour-wise, or deflated/streamlined shape-wise. With colour AND shape as dramatic as this, it´s too much for me.
Her handbag looks as if she just quickly folded away an umbrella. I don´t understand that design but I like the black as an accent colour. Also, incidentally, the flower bouquet happens to match the dress beautifully.
Vanessa, I always enjoy your comments - where even if I have a different opinion, you make me think, and learn - and you tend to be very fair (versus the new genre of New My Royals commenters who add "No, just no", from which we learn nothing at all). So thank you! My overall thought is that although I don't like this colour, this is irrelevant, because it is stunning on Victoria. And because she is indeed the Crown Princess, if she's not allowed to stand out, then who is?! Why not have some fun in the spring after another cold, and this time quite snowy and long Swedish winter? Anon 9:13 makes the point about the context... maybe dressing this way is part of the event... which indeed it is: if royalty is showing up, then let them show up! - AnnaLise.
DeleteYes, this is daring, as her evening gowns sometimes are - but she looks stunningly well in it! Where, if not at such an occasion? She would look terrible in, say, Sofia's pastel floral print from top to bottom (as she quite often does). She looks and seems to have fun.
Delete(Gloria)
I agree with you and your analyses of the event. The dress is interesting but I find it a bit too yellow. The queen is her standard beautiful glittering self and Sofia never makes it to elegant. The dress is too homely with corse lace and ruffles. More an at home prairie party than an upscale award occasion.
DeleteLadyofthemanor
Thank you, AnnaLise, for your kind reply. I like to read everyone else´s comments too, and often I find my self looking at the same photos again and discovering something I hadn´t noticed of thought of.
DeleteIn this particular case, I still think that Victoria´s dress is a bit too much, and I think it´s the colour that needs taming. The style itself is fine, although a bit daring and a departure from her usual style, but why not. You (and Gloria as well) are right that she´s there to bring the glamour, so why not do it all-in.
Also, thinking a bit more about this look, I seem to remember she wore something similar in bright pink before, possibly to the same event in a previous year. Unfortunately, I suspect that Victoria chose this because it´s H&M and she has some sort of affiliation; instead, she should be exploring a much wider range of designers instead of being limited to what H&M, Rodebjer and their likes have to offer.
@Ladyofthemanor - I agree. Home prairie party indeed. Sofia, although looking pretty, is not dressed for an awards ceremony, and I much prefer Victoria´s approach (although a bit too much) over Sofia´s (which is way too little)
Yikes! Victoria's dress looks like a cross between a feather duster and Big Bird. If she had to wear it, lesser colours, such as on the model, would have been better. The OTT design together with the neon yellow are too much together (UNLESS dressing that way is part of the event, which it might be). For once, I like Sophia's over-all, boho look better. Queen Sylvia looks OK.
ReplyDelete- Anon 9:13
Agree! Sofia and Silvia win! I just keep thinking of Big Bird from Sesame Street in the United States. Can't do it. Aly
DeleteVictoria looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteCP Victoria looks pretty much out of place in the last picture and not in tune with the dignified elegance of the other ladies. Very loud look-at-me vibes and the bag that looks more like a sack. She is there to honour the recipients of the Polar Music Prize not to make a show of herself. Poor judgement once again. Queen Silvia, so lovely, The same can be said about Princess Sofia
ReplyDeletePrince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia look fabulous. Her dress is a beautiful spring print with soft and flowing lines. I'm not a fan of Princess Victoria's dress; it has too much stiff fabric (netting?), and I don't think the neon yellow suits her. Queen Silvia's gown is tried and true; and it fits her perfectly. I love her black pearls. King Carl Gustav was his handsome stoic self. Prize winner, Angelique Kidjo's gown is stunning; I wish we had a closer view of it.
ReplyDeletePrincess Sofia looks beautiful nice dress, hair and makeup but I wouldn't say that about Victoria .
ReplyDeleteAva
Yes, Sofia looks beautiful, very nice look for her. Vctoria seems to have gone for fun & attention. |Melanie|
DeleteWho's the canary?
ReplyDeleteMarie
Oh my goodness no, Victoria. Just no. Princess Sofia and Queen Silvia look wonderful!!! Meg
ReplyDeleteSilvia looks fabulous. Sofia looks beautiful. Victoria looks pretty (because she is a pretty woman) and pretty ridiculous. Her dress is awful--when I think of how many beautiful gowns she has that we have seen or other choices she might have had from Swedish fashion groups I cannot understand this choice...at all. The black and white option shown in the H&M ad would have been a much better choice.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Cpss Victoria's gown is nice but way to yellow. Pss Sofias gown is very lovely Maybe if she would put her hair up on occasions. It would make a different statement. Queen Silvia looks very elegant. The RM look great to. css
ReplyDeleteIn 2019 crown princess wore a pink tulle dress, reminiscent of this one for the same event. It is bright but she looks good it it.
ReplyDeleteI think that Victoria looks fabulous! What is wrong with strong colors and as someone wrote a « look at me » dress.? The comments here are like the ones for Maxima., on after one criticizing. Ok so you prefer boring. I don’t - this dress makes me smile. Bravo to Victoria for daring to stand out
ReplyDeletetotally agree, thanks for your comment
DeletePrincess Sofia and Queen Silvia look classy and elegant.
ReplyDeleteCrown Princess Victoria wears a dress that screams "Look At Me, Look At Meeee!". It draws lots of attention with that highlighter yellow color and voluminous tulle layers. At first I thought that Victoria is carrying with her black umbrella but it looks to be some sort of bag. On the group photo Victoria stands out and not in a good way. Daring look but this event was not about her.
Monica
I totally agree. This event is not about her. At all. Alice
DeleteI think Victoria read everybody's comments about her concervative and boring look over the years. And just thought for once... Go big or go home! Because everything about the dress is big: the coluur, the design. But for once Victoria looks groomed. Her hair is more than a bun and her skin is glowing, she actually went for a facial. Sofia looks like she is on her way to a picnic in the park.
ReplyDeleteExactly what I thought, Anon 06:14. If you go big, then make it real big, she does it regularly at the Nobel receptions. It could have been black-and-white, like on the model. But then nobody would notice that she really wanted to go big :-)
Delete(Gloria)
If you look at the pictures of this event from the last years, you know that CP Victoria always wears extravagant dresses here!
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is great and like it very much, much better than the same boring high necked dress with slippery ruffles from Sofia (otherwise everyone always complains that Victoria dresses too old-fashioned and now it's not right either, so honestly).
I agree 100% with what you say.
DeleteAwful HM dress. Sofia on the other hand looks lovely.
- Dorothe -
ReplyDeleteVictoria Bernadotte always goes out of her comfort zone when dressing for this special event. Google and look at old photos.
ReplyDeleteoh Victoria, what were u thinking!
ReplyDelete@helen Charlene has been missing on the blog. this was a few days ago https://www.instagram.com/p/Csbc5nwojyr/ and this was yesterday https://www.instagram.com/p/Csl3AKpP1jh/
Victoria looks stunning!!!!! I love the outfit!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHope Maxima doesn’t see Princess Victoria’s dress.
ReplyDeleteShe'll be jealous with rage.
I’ll phone in later with my learned and detailed comment.
It’s going to take time as I’m not sitting on the fence anymore.
Wasn’t doing my health any good, you know.
Deadeggs, I feel we are on the same wavelength 😅
DeleteI'm gonna take some time to think over Victoria''s gown as well.
My first impression Is...to call a spade a spade...who was so bold as to concoct this multiple- layer- lemon cake- like bizarre gown?
Sofia wears a beautiful soft coloured dress , so good to her soft face.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen wears a beautifull dress.
Victoria wears an awfull cheap screaming dress.
Mabel
I think they all look fabulous and can carry off what they are wearing... However .... I think the styles don't match... One is very soft and summery.. One is very formal and dark.. And one is very bright and fun.... It's like they are dressed for different events...
ReplyDeleteI agree! They all look fab, but it's a completely different style. I like Victoria's yellow dress a lot. She looks amazing with her hair like this. Sofia is the more alternative one, she has a really romantic look today. And Silvia is looking great in a more classic way.
DeleteSilvia would look better in grey hair!
ReplyDeleteI very sincerely don't think so.
DeletePrincess Sofia’s robe is by TiMo which is is a New York fashion house.
ReplyDeleteThe main (youngish) designer is Tim Weiland. He stated with neckwear (ties) and later developed into mens and womens fashion wear.
Eeehhh no, by TiMo is a Norwegian brand. It was created in 2004 by Tine Mollatt, byTiMo’s founder and creative director. CP MM has a lot and I then mean a lot of their dresses(on the top of my head I can count at least 16 different dresses) and have used them for years. https://bytimo.com/about
DeleteEeehhh @Anon 06:34 Yes but no.
DeleteYour information is correct.
BUT there seems to be two fashion brands with the name TiMo
One, as I quoted, in New York (established 2010) with the founder known as Timo Weiland and another in Norway with the founder you mentioned being Tine Mollatt.
It would be logical that the one mentioned with Princess Sofia is the Norwegian TiMo as it’s much closer to home for her to do her shopping.
Note: The American TiMo uses the name TiMo Weiland.
Maybe this is for legal rreasons.
There is a difference. byTiMo is called byTiMo and Weiland is called Timo Weiland as you say. Weiland haven't made a collection for women since 2020 and then it was a gender fluid collection. byTiMo has made these floral romantic dresses since 2004. This is not the first time Sofia uses a byTiMo dress. She has almost a dozen of them.
DeleteThank you @Anon 07:18 for helping to clear up the TiMo history and the subtleties attached to the two (almost the same) fashion names.
DeleteIMO, Princess Sofia made a good choice for the occasion and she wears the gown well.
p.s. Would have been easier to follow the discussion if you had had a nickname 😉
byTiMo has announced on Instagram this is a bespoken dress for Sofia.
DeleteThree misses, for me. I find QS's dress, as well tailored as it might be, too dark and too heavy for a pre-summer-night's event. CP Victoria got things a little better, because the neon colour quit pops out and also the cut gives summer vibes. However, the amount of tulle just looks a bit ridiculous here. And Pss Sofia gone total Boho/Hippie/70's style. There is a recent fashion trend pointing back to this era, so far, so good. But it oddly looks like a nightdress from that time, or that bridesmaid dress the late Princess Diana once had been wearing to the wedding of her sister Lady Jane. The colours, however, are nice on Pss Sofia's gown.
ReplyDeleteForgive me, but all I could see was the first runner-up at the Miss Alabama beauty pageant.
ReplyDelete🤣😂
DeleteAs somebody from Alabama I will just ignore this. Nobody in Alabama would be caught dead in that. Not even Scarlett O'Hara. Taylor
DeleteCan anyone explain why the Royal fam always attend this small scale stunt? Isn’t it a little degrading? ac
ReplyDeleteI'm just hazarding a guess here, but Polar Music was founded by Stig Andersen, who was the manager for (arguably) Sweden's greatest export, ABBA. The company rose in prominence with the band who released their music through this company, so it is a well known and well regarded institution globally for Sweden...and possibly why the Swedish RF attends this event every year. That's my guess.
Delete- Anon 9:13
I see the comments are as expected. It is certainly easy to guess the average age of the regulars here. Silvia dresses in a very nice but predictable way because she is older. Sofia often chooses boho fashions. In other words, nothing to get too excited about this time. Victoria is typically ultra conservative, with high necks and bows. Her clothes are downright boring. She rarely makes herself up or does anything with her hair. I always think it is a missed opportunity because she is so beautiful. This time she has taken one of her rare steps out of her comfort zone. It doesn't have to be a dress for the masses, it just has to be a dress for one person for this event. Yes, it is a lot of dress. Yes it is a big color. I am thrilled she is wearing it. I know she is married to just a few brands which limits her choices. Keeping all this in mind, I'll count this as a win for her. We need to see more of fun Victoria! Lastly, I just want to say that I can't stand the comments accusing any of the RLs of "look at me". None of them are doing that. You can't seriously expect them to never wear color or clothes that could be more stylish/attention-getting than another royal or person they are meeting with for fear they could have more eyes on them, are you? That will always happen because they are royals. They already get more attention. They should wear what they like without fear of being accused of such ridiculous things.
ReplyDeleteAnd...given that this post is related to music, let me remember here one of the most fascinating woman and voice that really made music history, Mrs Tina Turner. Tina, you strived throughout your troubled life.
ReplyDeleteI'll miss your splendid voice, songs and uncomparable strength boih on scene and in your privare Life.
R.I.P. for a Queen of Music🙏😞
The Queen of Rock has left us. I will miss her. So sad.
DeleteWhen she started her solo singing life in the 1970’s, she fell into the hands of the famous American fashion designer Bob Mackie. He was the “must have” designer for many of Hollywood’s big stars.
Some examples of his work for Tina can be seen via …..

For music, she was simply the best. Rest in peace dear Tina.
All three of the Swedish ladies looked lovely each in their respective gowns. Nice to see Victoria step outside the comfort zone with her choice. I would have had a black clutch, rather than the black bag she carried, but otherwise, outstanding choices. Edwina
ReplyDeleteI LOVE CP Victoria in this! Did any of you see the earlier pictures? Her hair was down and styled beautifully. She truly was stunning, stunning.
