This year, The German-Swedish Society Heidelberg (DSG) celebrates its 50th anniversary and on this occasion, it held a charity event on May 27 for the benefit of The World Childhood Foundation Germany, which was founded by Queen Silvia.
As part of the anniversary celebration and charity event, Queen Silvia sailed across the Neckar Valley for 3 hours in her native town of Heidelberg on a boat named after her, "MS Queen Silvia", to collect donations for the World Childhood Foundation Germany.
The World Childhood Foundation was founded by Queen Silvia in 1999 and provides contact points for abused children, called Childhood Houses. Queen Silvia opened such a house in Heidelberg in 2019, and the German-Swedish Society Heidelberg (DSG) collected donations of almost 30,000 euros for the Queen’s Foundation.
Queen Silvia is patron of The German-Swedish Society Heidelberg (DSG). On May 26, Queen Silvia had received honorary citizenship from the city of Heidelberg.
