On May 3 2023, King Charles and Queen Camilla hosted the first garden party of 2023 at Buckingham Palace in London. The King and Queen were joined by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. To celebrate the Coronation of the King and the Queen, two Garden Parties will take place in the Buckingham Palace Garden in 2023, as well as one at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.
I don't like Queen Camilla's coat but Duchess Sophie looks so well in her outfit . The dress in beautiful colors with matching accessories., especially hat..
ReplyDeleteAva
Agree, Duchess Sophie looks glamorous in her gingham dress (?) from suzannah london and the valextra bag, both a rewear, i think.
Deleteanna e.
Sophie's dress looks like a tea towel.
DeleteMissy, you must have a very elegant kitchen ;))
DeleteD. Sophie looks awesome in her pink coat dress LOVE IT! And I love her hat and purse. D. Birgitta and Q. Camilla look nice too. I hope everything goes great for the coronation, looks like they're all in fine form for all the events.
ReplyDeleteThe Duchess of Edinburgh looks stunning. I love everything about her look. The coat dress has a flattering cut and the pastel coral is an attractive shade for. The hat and handbag are smart accessories. The whole look is a 10 for me! But I’m not a fan of Queen Camilla’s dress. The blue and white stripes aren’t flattering. The hat is a familiar style for her that works (wide brim, tilted to the side), and her jewelry is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely! MR
DeleteCompletely agree
DeleteI agree with you but I think D. Sophies coat should be a little bit shorter. I don't understand why her clothes are never altered to fit her height.
DeleteLadyofthemanor
Yes, you have said it perfectly. Q.C.'s outfit looks like an awning to me. (V M.)
Delete@Ladyofthemanor , yes she does wear clothes too long for her height.
DeleteAva
Interesting that on Mary's recent overseas trip nearly everything she wore was this length on her - barely any comments about things being too long.
DeleteI think the length of Sophie's outfit is fine here.
@Anon 21:33 Mary's daily itinerary/schedule, as well as the protocols of the foreign country she was visiting likely determined the length of her clothes.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Doesn't mean commenters on an Internet blog can't state their opinions on whether they find said length unflattering or not. I still find it interesting that people fall back on certain things when discussing one royal but don't notice it on another. Just human nature I suppose.
DeleteThe pink check on Sophie is pretty and suits her. The Duchess of Gloucester looks quite elegant as usual. Not a fan of Camilla’s outfit, the stripes are too broad and almost ‘clunky’.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteSophie wears a beautiful coat in springtime colours.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen is too oldfashioned for me here. I wished she went to the late queens taylor who made such wunderfull coats for her.
Mabel
I have read stories that Charles is not too fond of Angela Kelly. I don't know how accurate that is of course. I agree with you. She certainly needs a change.
DeleteCamilla's coat would look much more nicer without white stripes.
ReplyDeleteAva
Does anybody know if there is a dress code for the royal and other ladies who will attend the Coronation?
ReplyDeleteI’m sure there is one for the gents.
I hope that on the dress code memo, it mentions that ladies are advised not to wear boots. 😁
Found an answer to my question.
DeleteThe original text was in French and it has been translated into English by Google translation.
“If no obligation has been formally sent to the approximately 2,000 guests concerning the dress code, their outfits should reflect the spirit of sobriety of the ceremony, without too much pageantry. Women should therefore wear a "day dress" accessorized with a fascinator or not.
Regarding men, they will have the choice between a suit, a jacket – more formal – or a military uniform. Hats for men are optional”.
NOTE: In the French version they used the word ‘Bibi’ which can be translated to mean a small hat.
See more on a "Bibi" via the link .......

Not a fan of Camilla’s outfit either, would I dare to say unsurprisingly.
ReplyDeleteAgree with the comments posted here on Sophie and the Duchess of Gloucester. They both look good, elegant. I am not a fan of Camilla's outfit - and she looks as old as she really is.
ReplyDeletePauline
I don’t understand how your last comment has anything to do with fashion. What is wrong with looking your age? Ela
Delete@Ela, very often style of clothes can make you look older or younger. Maybe Pauline's comment mean that.
DeleteAva
I think the stripes on Camilla's dress are meant to elongate her figure and they seem to work.
DeleteRegarding looking old, I think for Camilla is more important to use the late Queen's makeup artist than her stylist. Her Majesty always had brilliant makeup with professional tricks for her complexion like wearing white glow around her eyes and never wearing a pale lipstick.
The point of not looking as old as you are, said my grandmother who lived to be 96, is to not to scare young kids that the witch has sprung out of the book with fairy tales.
Agree with Ela, for some people the now queen can‘t do it right. But blaming someone to look as old as she or he is…..
Delete@Pauline: What's wrong with looking as old as you really are? At the very least, and if one dresses smartly and neatly, isn't that a true representation of one's self?

Thank you Ava. Ela
DeleteI really like the pattern of Camilla's dress, but the blue and white are a contrast that's too harsh. Sophie's hat is great and her dress is lovely. Well done, royal ladies! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Duchess of Gloucester looks exceptionally lovely. Her pearl necklace is beautiful, the pearls are a good size and luminous, excellent quality. Sophie looks lovely in this ensemble, but her bag is divine! love it. Queen Camilla looks nice, but the outfit doesn't appeal to me, the b/white stripes, not sure what it is.
ReplyDeleteAgree, the Duchess Birgitte looks elegant, love the pearls. e.
DeleteWOW ... the Duchess of Edinburgh wears a stunning outfit ... great look and style ...
ReplyDeleteA busy schedule ahead of the Coronation. In the morning, before the garden party, they all went to a rehearsal at Westminster Abbey. The DoE's outfit may look like a trusted tea towel pattern (as someone said in the comments above) but it still is a great ensemble. She is my winner of the day. The DoG always shows that slightly understated, yet nicely put together look. Her pearl necklace is jaw-droppingly beautiful. Alas, QC - relying on trusted blue, which is not bad as such, but if the white stripes had been less wide, much finer, like some sort of piping, or so, it would have looked way better. This way it made the whole outfit seem quite "bulky".
ReplyDeleteDuke and Duchess of Edinburgh, well dressed for the occasion. Sophie looks looks lovey in the pink suit, hat, makeup, etc. The Duke is handsome, and Duchess of Gloucester looks beautiful, especially with the lovely pearls she is wearing.
ReplyDeleteCamilla looks odd, with her winter colored coat, and black gloves. The coat is her 'style' to cover all the bumps/lumps, one gets at her age, however, you can make a choice on colors and accessories that accentuate rather than detract.
You can express your opinion without being impolite ("bumps, lumps")
DeleteThe coatdress of the Duchess of Edinburgh reminds me of a coatdress worn by Diana, Princessof Walesin the early 1990s. It was the same pink gingham. The Duchess' coatdress is - as always with her dresses - a bit to long. That long skirt looks dowdy and matronly. A shorter midi skirt would be so much more flattering and youthful. Queen Camilla seems to have a kind of blue phase in the last weeks. I love blue as well but it is a bit boring that she wears always the same colour. The pattern of her coat flatters her frame. I like her large statement hat.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why Camilla is wearing so many blue outfits since Charles has become King. Does it signify anything? I recall Maxima wore a blue gown during W-A coronation. Is it suppose to signify a King has succeeded behind a Queen ??
ReplyDelete-A Summer
Sounds like you could win big on what colour she'll be wearing this coming weekend.

Fun at the Party. Love the outfits. css
ReplyDeleteThe Duchess of Edinburgh looks lovely in her pale pink ensemble.
