On May 4, 2023, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium paid a visit to the province of West Flanders. King Philippe and Queen Mathilde first visited the editorial office and the printing house of international multimedia group Roularta in Roeselare, West Flanders. Afterwards, the King and Queen visited the new fire station 'Post Belgiek' in Deerlijk, which is part of the emergency zone Fluvia.
ZIMMERMANN High Tide Floral Linen Midi Dress
This is the 1st time Queen Mathilde wears a dress by Zimmerman. I cannot say it suits her. Among the Scandinavian Royals there are princesses like CP Mary and Princess Madeleine who wear this brand as well as Queen Maxima. On them I liked several (not all) of these dresses. On Queen Mathilde I must confess it is not so good. The print is too busy,. The big sleeves don't suit her. I don't like the buttons from top until the hemline. I read it is made of linen which wrinkles very much. The neckline is closed to high also something that doesn't suit the queen. Finally the skirt of the dress is too wide. What a pity.
ReplyDeleteThat’s a very fair and well explained assessment, thank you. I think the colours are quite becoming for her… my solution would be to use the top half as a blouse, opening up the neckline somewhat, and pair it with something plain eg white trousers. - AnnaLise
Delete@4/5/23 16:56: fully agree with your views on this Zimmermann dress worn by queen Mathilde. I can easily picture princess Madeleine wearing it.
DeleteNo to this dress.
ReplyDeleteI just realize the high level of similarity between the outfit of Mary and Mathilde. The Mary version is much easier to wear and flattering. In the case of Mathilde it is the skirt which is "too much".
DeleteThis is a lovely dress. I prefer it when the skirt is less flared and longer, as shown on the model, instead of the way it flares out on Mathilde; I know it cannot be helped because of her being high-waisted and hippy, but causes more attention to the pattern, and the dress length becomes shorter. However Mathilde's lovely height saves the day, the dress cut doesn't fight with her shape, and she looks very nice. She imparts a stylish 'June Cleaver', 50s look once again.

Très joli modèle mais il convient à la reine que jusqu'à la taille ; la jupe mériterait d'être plus droite et là , ce serait idéal pour sa silhouette !
ReplyDeleteI think it is the sleeves that kill this dress for me. The color is good for Q Mathilde but the skirt should have been a bit less flared.

It's a very elegant dress that suits Mathilde. Nice spring colours also. I just think she's wearing it for a wrong occasion, this dress is more suitable for a more formal visit (eg state visit with a fitting hat).
ReplyDeleteSpring is here. Everything is bright and gay including Queen Mathilde's dress.
ReplyDeleteHorrible dress
ReplyDeleteNot one of my favorites. css
ReplyDeleteLove this dress and think the warm colours very becoming for Queen Mathilde,

It is an unusual dress for Mathilde. I like it!
ReplyDeleteWell, I think she might be feeling quite romantic and "springy" in this pretty dress. Queens most likely don't have to worry about fabric care and can enjoy feeling special, and add to happiness of an occasion. - K
ReplyDelete@K - 1 trip in a car and linen is already wrinkled. The chamber maid is not with her to iron her dress quickly. Although I like linen myself I would never buy it for a dress like this. For a (long) shirt that can be worn with a pair of trousers it is an ideal fabric.
DeleteI really want to like this dress as it is beautiful. If there could be a few changes then I think Mathilde would look wonderful: 1) reduce the amount of fabric in the skirt--a more narrow skirt is much more flattering for Mathilde; 2) ditch the huge belt buckle and create a much smaller fabric covered buckle; and 3) re-do the sleeves to have more of the design show down to the end of the cuff. The colors are marvelous for Mathilde. Two of the changes are simple but the sleeves may be a stretch but the sleeves might look better with a more narrow skirt.

Its different, I like it.
ReplyDeleteThe skirt looks too stiff and wide. On the model it looks much nicer - looks like another fabric
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde seems to have taken a recent liking for full skirts.
