As the Principality of Monaco prepares to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III, a mass was held in his memory at Monaco Cathedral on April 5. Prince Albert, Princess Charlene, Princess Caroline, Princess Stephanie, Charlotte, Pierre and Andrea Casiraghi were present at the memorial mass. The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of Monaco Dominique Marie David.
Prince Rainier III (Rainier Louis Henri Maxence Bertrand Grimaldi) was born on May 31, 1923 in Monacoville. The Prince passed away on April 6, 2005 at the age of 81 after 56 years of reign. The commemorations for the centenary of the birth of the Prince will begin on May 31, 2023, the day of the birth of Prince Rainier III.

The picture of the Monegasque prince family is lovingly familiar together going to church. Moreover, especially the ladies are tastefully dressed and convey style and charm.
DeleteYes, we can't see much of Charlène's outfit. In my view, a darker shade of grey would have been more appropriate for the occasion. Caroline looks very old, an old lady of 66 years.
ReplyDeletePauline
I so agree with regard to Caroline. Looking so very old
DeleteI think Caroline is letting herself age naturally stop darken her hair Its beautiful
DeleteApart from everything, no fashion remarks at this occasion, what a lovely greeting from Charlotte with Charlene!
ReplyDelete//AA
Charlotte is one only person who support Charlene.
DeleteCharlene is godmother to Charlotte's eldest son Raphael. She seems very supportive of her, despite her mother Caroline's coolness toward Charlene.
DeleteCharlotte, so charming in a very true and warm embrace from the heart with Charlene; Charlotte is so warm and down-to-earth!!!!
DeleteMuch has been said about Caroline's supposed "coolness" to Charlene and vice versa - the truth is it's all speculation and gossip and nobody other than the people involved and their intimate circle know the reality.
DeleteWell said @Anon 22:24 Info from speculation and gossip.
DeleteJudging only from photos, I have always had the impression that Princess Stephanie is a great support for Princess Charlene.
But then I could be wrong.
Goodness me, time has not been kind to Caroline!
ReplyDeleteShe has always been a heavy smoker which is incredibly aging.
DeleteKim
She is a heavy smoker. This is what it does to the skin :(
DeleteLook, here we see a beautiful woman without plastic surgery, it is just a natural aging process. I adore it.
Deleteanna e.
She is not only a smoker but living in a sunny climate is also not the best for skin. But I think she looks very nice and much better than those who have extensive (and obvious) plastic surgery.
Delete>>we see a beautiful woman without plastic surgery<< Always this argument about plastic surgery. Women don't need surgery and can still look beautitiful in their sixties. As if surgery ist the only way to look good when older. Caroline of Monaco has always been a beautiful woman with amazing facial structure. But it is also true that she didn't age well for what ever reason. She looks ten years older than she is. That is a fact. In some pictures above she looks rather like eighty. I have no idea what is going on. I am about her age, couple of years younger and for that I have always had interest in her life. One reason is that I shared her destiny of being widowed at a rather young age. I don't have her ressources, I have never invested much in cosmetics, I do not live overly healthy, I smoke, I eat red meat, I don't drink gallions of water per day, I enjoy my glass of red wine....very much a European lifestyle in my generation, I guess. But my skin looks nothing like that. I think Caroline does not really have a sense of fashion. She either wears expensive brands that are given to her, like Chanel. Or she wears just random stuff, that does nothing for her. Same for her hairstyle and makeup. It looks as if she doesn't care. Rather unpolished in my eyes. Hairstyles of all Grimaldi women are bad. Caroline, Stéphanie, Charlotte, Charlene and so on. I can't believe that there is not one good hairstylist in Monaco.
DeleteBeth, your comment is the best of all times . I agree with your every word you wrote!
DeleteAva
Caroline is stylish.
Delete@Beth the blog is not your journal to write about your life.
J
@Beth: Caroline is very slender, which is not favourable for one’s face when when one gets older. I, for one, think that she still is an incredibly elegant woman, who has her own, personal, fashion sense, which sometimes is not to everybody’s liking. Having been one of the most beautiful women in the world for decades, she now shows intelligence, dignity and enormous selfconfidence, to let the world now thar she can accept the loss of youth, maybe even exaggerating in that respect. It is some sort of statement. How she comes across on the photos we see, differs, sometimes she looks good, sometimes not. I am two years older than Caroline and the same holds for me. It is dependent on the angle, the lighting etc.
DeleteLucky you, to look so good in your sixties, but then again, you are not being photographed on every occasion you appear from 20 different angles, are you?
Elisabeth
Beth, you don t talk about facts, but your own opinions and your own experiences, which is completey ok…😌
DeleteTo Beth. Your comments are a bit harsh and no facts at all
DeletePrincesses Charlene and Stephanie look good as does Charlotte Casiraghi. Princess Caroline looks at least 10 years older than her age. Compare her to Queens Sonia or Sofia. I hope she’s well.
ReplyDeleteAnnieM
Beautiful painting of Prince Rainier !!
ReplyDeleteLet’s be kind here! Our faces age at different rates and I applaud Caroline for not capitulating to fillers and facelifts. Sunshine, grief, loss, work, genetics (also perhaps smoking) and loads of smiling and thinking, they change the story of our lives and faces too. Hallelujah for being in the spotlight yet brave enough to show the truth.
ReplyDeleteAmen. I feel wistful for the great beauty she once was, but there is a lot to be said for a woman in the spotlight who refuses to go the botox/surgery/fillers route
DeleteAgree!
DeleteThank you for this, I completly agree with you :)
DeleteHow about we be real and honest, smoking does age one's skin, these are the results on Caroline. On a style note she always does it right, it's in her genes.
DeleteJ
I agree with you! I admire her choice not to succumb to the craze for eternal youth at a cost to look ridiculous or even scarry in some cases. Time goes by for everyone.
DeleteAna Katarina
Indeed Caroline aging naturally. We cannot say that of Charlene !
DeleteIndeed Caroline aging naturally. We cannot say that of Charlene !
DeleteCarolyn has not aged well, the rest look good, especially Charlene she is dressed well nice colors instead of black, hope she is doing good.
ReplyDeleteTo me, neither the colour nor the cut of her coat look good on Charlène. She is a tall, sporty woman and she looks best in clean-cut, simple and "pure" outfits. And other colours like camel and black or a dark shade of grey.
DeletePauline
Princess Charlenes coat is actually a very nice cut only not on her. It really does not suit her body shape at all. It is a pity. I think she should donate it to Princess Charlotte who has a more Audry Hepburn shape which is what the coat needs.
ReplyDeleteWhy would an adult woman give her coat to a little girl?
I love seeing the Princely Family of Monaco in full effect. They are a feast for the eyes!
ReplyDeleteBelle photo quand je vois Charlotte en train d'enlacer Charlène qui a changé la couleur de base de ses cheveux subtilement méchée !
ReplyDeletePrincess Caroline might be a heavy smoker as others had already mentioned. I like it very much that she is aging with dignity. She is a wonderful role model for aging in a normal way. Princess Caroline is not using botox, filler and plastic surgery. People who are using plastic surgery do not look younger, they simply do look strange. And the princess resists the public pressure looking as a 30something forever. Therefore she should get much applause and support.
ReplyDeleteOne can only agree with Angelina!
DeleteCompletely agree! e.
Delete@ Angelina. Not every royal lady is using botox, fillers or plastic surgery. To me she is not aging in a normal way. She is younger than Q. Sonja, Q. Sofia, ... but she looks older. Dying your hair is not allowed too, I suppose..... ? When she was young she was on the beaches of Monte-Carlo, Nice, Cannes, etc...and probably in exotic places (there are pictures of that) = too much sun. Too much cigarettes, too much of everything.... Stephanie about the same: she is also looking older than she is.
Delete@Angelina ; please put me on your "agree" list.
DeleteAnon 17:56 - they made their choices to lead their lives in the way they saw fit - and they have assumed themarks left by those choices.
DeleteA bittersweet occasion for the Grimaldi family--remembering the loss of Prince Ranier as well as celebrating his life. It is nice to see the family together at the event. All the ladies look perfectly dressed for the occasion in somber colors. The hug between Charlene and Charlotte is sweet--obviously a caring relationship there. I for one applaud Caroline for choosing to age naturally. I don't think she is a vain woman and has greater interests than maintaining her youthful appearance. Yes, she is a smoker (has been for years) and she also loved the sun--both things age the skin. However, I would like to point out that Caroline's face also reflects the losses she has endured and the grief she has felt.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Well said! Caroline lost the love of her life and was left a widow with three young children - wealthy or not that is a hard loss to bear. Her first and third marriages were possibly very painful. Yes she smoked and sunbathed but back then, in the 70s, people were not as aware of just how damaging and aging they were. She seems to have reached a wonderful sense of contentment and acceptance of who she is at 66 and that is whilst having the added stress of a very public, even global, profile. That should be applauded, and not seen as a sign of lack of self-interest or even ill health. She has so much to be proud of - her daughter Charlotte is a warm, brilliant young woman and her sons seem to be wonderful parents and her younger daughter will without doubt shine too. I envy her sense of calm and self acceptance.
DeleteAlbert's jacket it's too tight and wrinkled, not a good fit.
ReplyDeleteI love Princess Charlene. She is so beautiful! I wish she smile more. She looks unhappy all the time. Longer hair looks better on her, I think. She is tall and she looks better with fitting sleeveless dresses and gowns with low cut neckline like her wedding dress. I think she is one of the most beautiful and attractive royalties in the world!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree…imo Princess Charlene is one of the greatest beauties ever to emerge on the royal scene. — Jane
Delete@Jane: really? Charlene has been rebuilt from head to toe. Everything, nose, eyes, teeth, breasts has been altered….. She was an ordinary, pleasant looking girl, in 2005, but no more than that. Maybe you should google a picure from that decade…..
DeleteLily T.
I for one never understood how you can call someone "beautiful" who had so much plastic surgery like Charlene had. Compare photos of her with the young Charlene. She looked completely different.
DeleteDo agree with Lily T. And Coralie. Prefer wrinkles to procedures…
DeleteAgree !!
DeleteThe RL look good today, I like the new frosting in Charlene's hair. Nice to see the new Granny there too. I like the suit from Charlet, but not keen on the footwear. Was Alexandra there? did not see her. Carolines suit was very nice, she seems to age well. css
ReplyDeleteI think everyone looks wonderful, fashion wise. I do wish I could see Charlene's dress under her coat, but I don't mind the coat. Everyone is appropriate. Charlotte looks beautiful. And yes, Caroline is getting (and looking older), but she's still fabulous.
ReplyDeleteChel
What is going on with Charlenes hair colour? From platinum blonde to black with terribly bad made highlights? Honestly is that all the expensice coiffeurs in Monte Carlo can do?
ReplyDeletePerhaps they only obeyed HSH's wishes? To make sure that she comes back.
DeleteMargot
Isn't that a bit tough about her hair ? I rather agree with Anon 22:52
Delete@ MaryT, actually not that tough. I do like her Pixie Cut. I think it is the best hairstyle she's had over the years. I also like it because it is a nice change to the ever hangig long strands of hair we usually see on the royal ladies. And I like it most in a soft blond shade, not in the all white platinum colour. But the hair colour shown on these photos don't suit her. The main tone is too dark and the blonde streaks are poorly made. They don't look very professional rather what you get when you buy a DYI kit at the drugstore ;-))). I know what I am talking about. Been there. Done that ;-))) This is my only critic concerning her hairstyle. I did not criticize Charlene as a person, her personality, her character, whatever. I don't know her. I think she does great considered the fact, that Monaco and more so the Royal family there seems to be a hard place to be especially for women.
DeleteI like Charlene's hair this darker shade. It does not wash her out like the white shade did.
ReplyDeleteThe painting of Prince Rainer, is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteImagine attending a memorial service for your beloved late father and afterwards dozens critique you from head to toe about your personal appearance, your ageing and your clothing choices as well as your family members. Also, people speak as if they know them personally and understand their inter-family relationships. It cannot be easy being them.
ReplyDeleteGood argument.
DeleteIt came as a shock to me about two-three years ago since we've been presented with pictures of Caroline's "mature" look. I remember the lovely, vivacious, immaculately dressed young princess who matured into a young mother and more recently grandmother who still looked stunning at Monegasque events such as the annual Red Cross Ball. Is her fairly recent transformation due to just her smoking, and/or to the tumult that her family appears to endure in some form or fashion, year after year, decade after decade? The transformation in the past few years quite frankly shocked me: I am several years older than she is, also don't "embellish" my looks, but, well: I am sad by what I see. The change has been drastic--I hope she is well.

ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations to Princess Stephanie.
ReplyDeleteShe has just become a grandmother.
She is grandmother to a little girl born on the 4th April.
I agree with all those commenting on plastic surgery, "natural aging" and so on. We don`t know any of the people pictured here personally. Not every prominent woman with a beautiful or relatively smooth skin has undergone plastic surgery. People writing this about Q. Sylvia and others are just guessing - very often in a hostile manner.
ReplyDeleteI think, Caroline , who was good-looking and beautiful when she was young or middle-aged, now looks dreadfully old, much older than her age.
She doesn't seem to care.
Pauline
Dreadfully old, now this is not very kind, Pauline…
DeletePeople aren't guessing about Queen Silvia because 1. it was very obvious at the time and 2. she admitted it herself.
DeleteNot that much to see here fashion-wise, which is ok for this type of event. Caroline looks very elegant, albeit a bit "old-fashioned". Stephanie looks fine, but not special. And Charlene keeps making strange decisions - usually Akris' clean lines suit her well, but this shape does her dirty. The colour isn't particularly flattering either, especially now that her platinum blonde hair is gone.
ReplyDelete-Nika-
It is my habit to never comment on the sartorial choices made for a funeral or memorial. The focus should be on the deceased. There will be many other opportunities to pick these women apart at a more appropriate time. I find it disgusting how much gossip and scrutinizing is being done on a solemn such as this.
ReplyDeleteBully for you. You could just enjoy being sanctimonious in private but you just had to share your sense of superiority with us, didn't you?
DeleteThe purple robes are fabulous. The clergy are definitely the best dressed.
ReplyDelete;)
Europa
Purple vestments are worn during Lent and Advent. These are the seasons of penance, preparation and sacrifice. They are also worn for Masses for the deceased.
DeleteI think Caroline is still very beautiful in a mature way. I admire her enormously
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. She is a very beautiful woman and is aging gracefully. I don't understand why people compare her to Charlene (who is not only 21 years younger than Caroline but has had work done on her face)! I don't understand the comparison to Queen Silvia either (who though older, has had work done on her face).
DeleteT.
Oh for heavens's sake who cares about the outfits apart from the superficionally inclined. Just lovely to see the family together.
ReplyDeleteYou are on a fashion blog, my dear...
DeleteSuperficionally?
DeleteI don't like the design nor the color of Charlene's coat. Usually I like Charlene's dressing choices, but this no. We cannot see her dress, but the coats she used to wear before were so much better. Marcella
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of pictures of her dress. I don’t want to link to other sites, but you can find them. She is wearing the Mixed Trapezoid Embroidery Dress by Akris.
