Queen Maxima visited Dutch designers at Milan Design Week

On April 18, Queen Maxima visited Dutch designers who are exhibiting their work at Milan Design Week in Milan, Italy. The Netherlands has always been among the most prominent participants in Milan Design Week. Queen Maxima’s visit to Milan followed an earlier meeting with designers during her visit to Eindhoven on 16 February.

Queen Maxima’s visit to Milan began in the city’s Isola neighbourhood, where she toured the innovative urban park designed by Dutch landscape architect Petra Blaisse.

The Queen then visited the exhibition ‘Masterly, the Dutch in Milano’ held at the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, where, for the seventh time, curator Nicole Uniquole has brought together the collections of more than 70 Dutch interior designers and design companies.

Agree. My first impression was: "Oh, how horrible." This is a very "special" coat. Not everybody can wear it - but Maxima can do it. It "emphasizes" Dutch design as she was visiting a Dutch design project in Milano. The trousers are just horrible imv.

How nice (huge eye roll) she has thick hair and its curly (maybe a wig). The coat and that awful pant suit with the clown pants making a second appearance, or is this another new outfit, with that ghastly coat, one cannot tell. Maybe she is having a 'I am feeling fat day'. G & C

Here we go again…. As soon as Maxima makes an appearance the mean comments start dropping in. I think that most of us agree that this is not The best look for Maxima , but there are different ways of saying this. Me personally I prefer a million times Maxima s look to plain and boring Armani suites, with no personality.

    1. Yes. It does (quite) well for the designer/fashion week theme, but otherwise needs either re-modelling or should get no outing at official engagements apart from high fashion themed events.

Omg, sometimes clothes should stay on the catwalk and never get into people’s closets. The whole look is dreadful. It looks like someone went mad with a whole punch. The only positive thing is the colour of trousers and top. Km

There are no words for this. Who is providing and advising her on styles? And why is she agreeing on wearing them.
This coat is by the far worst she’s ever had, and the trousers might be nice on their own, but here they just add to the disaster.

Exactly. Maxima's intention here is to promote a Dutch designer (whom she often favours and wears his other designs a lot) during an international design week. It is far less to do with her personal choice of this particular outfit.

When you go to the famous designer show in Milano you have to wear a kind of extraordinary clothing. And leave that to QM. It sure is a remarkable ensemble. Very fashionable: oversized/trenchcoat. But for me it's all too busy with all those holes with golden rings surrounding them. Claes Yversen has done better in the past for QM.

It definitely shows courage ( which we already knew)and which this time I appreciate. Maybe because of the thick loose hair complimenting the overall impression so good.
Claes Iversen, by the way, I donot think is a fashion designer at all.
He just sticks metal rings and things on coats and dresses and there you go.

  21. I thought that coats were to keep you warm or keep you dry! Maybe we should call it the Anti-Coat so we know what it will not do. That said I do think she looks very attractive in it and lets face it if putting Dutch Design on the map was the idea she has certainly achieved just that. Look at all our comments about it. She also has huge bands on the bottom of her trousers, a new Dutc Design invention to help sweep the streets while you are travelling on foot. We must do something here in the Netherlands to combat the huge labiur shortage we have here.

  22. The sleeves are way too long. And the coat doesn’t fit right in the shoulders. Doesn’t she have access to the best tailors? Her pants are too long as well. Even if they did fit properly, that coat is horrible. At least her hair looks washed today. Where is the Maxima who wore bold but perfectly tailored clothes with perfectly chosen jewels? Where has she gone??

Who wears a coat that's full of big holes ringed with grommets. I suppose for a "different" look it might have worked with something sleeker underneath; but the blue pants are too wide & way too long & have huge cuffs to boot. Her hair looks better, perhaps a volumizer or she just washed it or it's humid in Milano. I'm a fan of loose, comfy clothing; but this whole outfit is off my radar. |Melanie|

That coat seems to have missed the point of being a coat, with some problems anticipated if it rains or is cold! But this is a comment about design which doesn’t coincide with my practical fashion preferences and not about Max who always looks fabulous and joyful, even when supporting the designers with some radical experiments! - AnnaLise

I mean, you can clearly see that this is a fashion statement for a designer event and not an everyday coat she'd take on a state visit. Is it my personal taste? No. Does she still pull it off fantastically? Yes! I'm surprised, but this is working well for Maxima, especially because her styling (hair, makeup etc.) is on point. And let's face it, if any of the current royals could own that thing, it's her! Now I hope it gets a long rest in some dark corner of her wardrobe, but for the time it's been out - well played!
