King Abdullah, Queen Rania and Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan paid an official visit to Japan. During the visit to Tokyo, King Abdullah, accompanied by Queen Rania and Crown Prince Al Hussein, met with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. King Abdullah will head to London to attend the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst’s 200th Sovereign’s Parade to be held under the patronage of King Charles.
King Abdullah, Queen Rania and Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan paid an official visit to Japan. Crown Prince Al Hussein met with Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko of Japan at the Akasaka Estate in Tokyo. During the meeting, the royals spoke about bilateral relations and means to bolster cooperation and coordination between the two countries.
Toujours charmant le prince héritier jordanien mais j'aurais bien voulu voir aussi des photos du couple royal !
ReplyDeleteLook at that, no masks. I wonder what language was spoken.
ReplyDeleteIt’s always English. Even when Japanese and Chinese officials meet, it’s still English. Same with French and German officials, they communicate in English.
DeleteHighly recommend a book by Bill Bryson called “Memories from a Small Island”. Fascinating read on how English became such a universal language.
CH
Normally they speak English. There are cases when the parties involved (at least one of them) do not speak English, or not fluent enough, then interpreters will be at hand to translate, in that case it would be from Arabic to Japanese and vice versa. But amongst most, if not all, royals, English is the lingua franca. Scandinavian monarchies might be the exception, as they will understand each others language, at least the essence of what will be spoken. But in general, they, too, speak English to each other.
DeleteSpoke too soon. Didn’t see the Emperor and the King And Queen.
ReplyDeleteEmpress Masako's suit is exquisite. Queen Rania's dress is interesting. The shawl-like bodice, along with the pockets, buttons, and gold belt, creates a busy appearance. Crown Princess Kiko's ensemble is too bland, but her brooch, what I can see, is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteAgree, especially with your comment on Empress Masako. Yes, her outfit is exquisite, classic elegance.
DeletePauline
Yes Qn Rania's dress is interesting, however the shawl collar makes it difficult to wear, but she manages it beautifully as usual.
DeleteInteresting decision/protocol to have que King, Queen, Emperor and Empress wear a mask, while the following layer in the families do not need to wear it. Unless of course, some of the above is unwell.
ReplyDeleteLuna
I am sorry the King of Jordan and his family wear masks.
DeleteThe Japanese Government no longer recommends the wearing of masks. Unless they are ill.
This time, Japanese government officials and the Crown Prince and Princess met King Abdullah or his family without masks each other. That is the way it should be. It is rude to make King wear a mask.
The Japanese Prime Minister hosted them for dinner. If Wearing masks, they could not even drink tea. Since they only wore masks while meeting the Emperor and Empress, We can assume that the Emperor or Empress made them so.
Following the changes in Government policy, they finally went out for their holiday last week.
'The Emperor and his family took their first holiday in three years and eight months!!' was widely reported by Japanese media, along with videos of them unmasked, but it has become a complete joke.
There is no longer any reason to make his guests wear masks, yet he does so.
'No, no, no' The people of both nations will have complicated feelings about this.
In the case of the Philippines, both governments initially considered visiting Japan as state guests this spring but only met with the Emperor and Empress.
DeleteThe first lady of the Philippines looked in a bad mood at the meeting in the palace. When she met with the Prime Minister's wife, she was a very smiling and lovely First Lady.
It was the topic of discussion based on photos and videos of their meeting. It does not bring benefits to either nation.
Now is the time for Emperor Naruhito and the Japanese Imperial Family to resume the hospitality with all their hearts. banquets, luncheons, tea ceremonies and guided visits to places of interest, etc., as other royal families are currently doing and as former emperors have continued to do.
In Japan, the government has officially announced that it will ease the obligation to wear masks from March 13 this year.
DeleteWe are free to wear masks and take them off at our discretion. Also, from May 8th, the position of covid-19 in the Infectious Diseases Law will be further lowered.
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako still wear masks, but recently there have been suggestions that they might be better remove the masks when taking pictures with dignitaries.
As the government moves to ease restrictions on covid-19, it is also the desire of the people that the Imperial Household should keep pace with the government and lead Japan.
In fact, not only Crown Prince Fumihito, but other members of the Imperial family have already removed their masks when they go out on official duties.
Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako took off their masks at Queen Elizabeth's funeral, so even in Japan, where restrictions are being eased, more and more people want to see their faces.
We also want to see the faces of royalty and dignitaries who have come to Japan from foreign countries.
ReplyDeleteAgreed, they look amazing!
DeleteChel
Empress Masako's suit is lovely, however a spring color might have been a better choice, along with a different color of shoe.
ReplyDeleteIt could also be that wearing white or cream is a sign of respect, peace, dignity, etc. in Japan and therefore white is an appropriate symbolic colour to welcome a reigning monarch. Just a guess.

Queen's experimental dress would have looked great without the belt and attached shawl.
ReplyDeleteEmpress Masako’s suit is exquisite! HM radiates warmth and kindness. Bea
ReplyDeleteOne thing I'll say for Rania: Her clothing style is never boring.
ReplyDeleteShe takes risks, tries out new styles and looks, keeps it interesting with designs and colours, and 99% of the time she looks great in whatever she wears. This outfit is no exception.

Well said @Anon 9:13
DeleteEmpress Masako's ensemble, is elegant, and beautifully attired. Queen Rania, looks great, I love her outfit.
ReplyDeleteVery nice attire of the Imperial Ladies and Q Rania. css
