The royal family marked what would have been Queen Elizabeth II's 97th birthday on 21 April. Buckingham Palace has released a new photograph of Queen Elizabeth II with some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to mark what would have been the late monarch's 97th birthday. The photo was taken by the Princess of Wales during the royal family's annual summer holiday at Balmoral last summer.
Her Late Majesty is joined by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis for the group picture, along with Mia, Lucas and Lena Tindall, and Savannah and Isla Phillips. Standing at the back are the Queen’s grandchildren Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.
She is missed. All the children are looking lovely and the late Queen is very happy.
ReplyDeleteWhether you be rich or poor, family bonds can be your greatest strength! Lovely photograph, and I’m sure lovely memories were made spending precious time with HLM whilst they could. Bea

What a wonderful photo!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful photo, capturing all the children well. How marvellous to see such a heartwarming photo of her late Majesty, she is missed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic photo she was a proud granny & what an honour for her grand children to come together & have that photo taken. This will certainly be a beautiful memory for them all. Mary
ReplyDeleteAgree with Mary!
DeleteOnly two of them are her grandchildren (Louise and James). The rest are her Great grandchildren, and 4 of them are missing, as they were either too young, living out of the country, or not born yet (Archie, Lilibet, August and Sienna).

@Anonymous 22/4/23 13:33 I would not say, they were too young. There are previous photos where the Queen was holding babies on her knees. Everybody knew that this was probably the last summer when the Queen was alive. I personally think it's a pity that these parents denied their children this unique experience. Although very young the photo would still create lifelong memories.
DeleteWhat a lovely surprise to see this photo today. Since all the children are in it, it must be school holidays so late July or August. I’m struck by how well Her Late Majesty looks. Great photo

Wonderful photo! This will be a lovely memento in the years to come. It's touching and sweet moment in time for those who remember QEII and for the little ones who will learn about her through other's memories.
ReplyDeleteThe funny thing about group photos is the gymnastic event on the other side of the lens in order to get everyone to look at the photographer.
Brava, Princess Kate, brava!

What a beautiful photo of a much-beloved Granny surrounded by the children who love her. HM must have been so happy to have family with her last summer. This photo by the Princess is a true treasure! I have been thinking about today being her birthday as it is also my birthday--it was always so wonderful to think of HM as my "birthday twin" and I have felt a renewed sense of loss today. She was such a remarkable lady.

Happy Birthday!
DeleteWhat a special photograph of the late Queen and 8 of her 10 Great-grandchildren, it would have been nice if August and Sienna would have been there too. She would have been 97 years old. If a live my mother would have been 107 years old today. A special moment in deed. css
ReplyDeletelilibet and Archie makes it 12 great grandchildren at the time of this photo.
DeletePrincess Catherine is good at bringing out love and tenderness in people. The pictures she took are impressive.
ReplyDeleteIt was touching to imagine the children enjoying their last summer with Queen Elizabeth.
The room also looks cozy. The door, carpet, sofa, everything.
I could see why Queen Elizabeth loved Balmoral Castle. The Queen's personality is memorable.
For any child, it is always better to grow up hearing about the love they have for their family than to grow up hearing about bad things.
It also makes me happy to imagine that they will continue to cherish their memories of the Queen and their love for The Family.
This photo was taken in August 2022, a few weeks before the Queen's death. One clearly sees her old age (few people reach 96 years) and the solitude that goes with it - despite the grand children and great grand children sitting around her. They will always cherish that photo and the memory that goes with it. They will be proud of it. Good picture.

Well, i wouldn't overinterprete the facial expression. It takes ages, till children sit in the right position...
DeleteUn grand bravo à Kate pour avoir su prendre cette photo afin de nous souvenir de la Reine entourée par certains de ses petits-enfants et arrière-petits-enfants. Je ne vais pas manquer de la conserver !
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely picture ... it will always light up their hearts ...
ReplyDelete... just imagine ... your great-grandmother is one of the most remarkable person of the century and your parents keep you away from her ...
ReplyDeleteMiss her as the Queen. You always knew things were going well when she was here on earth. This is a lovely tribute to see all the young faces and personalities following in the lineage.
ReplyDeleteWonderful family photo! The prince and princesses are all such beautiful children--and some so grown up now. Charlotte's skirt is my favorite outfit--that is a beautiful shade of every color and looks so good on her. I really like the Queens's jacket and blouse and also a fan of that skirt at all.
ReplyDeleteCatherine is such a talented photographer. Charlotte as the center of the photo may point to the future.
I would consider this an overinterpretation. I see that the children were placed according to their height, not to hide each other and to create a nice triangle layout. Catherine really seems to be very good with children, they are all at ease, joyful, smiling. What a beautiful picture! Memories that will last forever!
DeleteSuch a lovely photo and a beautiful keepsake for the children in years to come.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful photo. As far as I’m concerned, there is no one who could live up to her. I’m also grateful that this has been published here. Whenever I’m sad or doubtful about the future, I like to see The Queen who always looked to the future with optimism and strength. Aside from my own mother, who looked very much like The Queen and was her age, with the same strength of character, she is the woman I admire most.
