On March 25, 2023, the Rose Ball took place under the Presidency of Princess Caroline of Hanover. This 67th event raised funds for The Princess Grace Foundation with the participation of Stephane Bern. This year, Princess Caroline of Hanover chose the theme "Bollywood" and afterwards designer Christian Louboutin created this theme for the Rose Ball, held at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte-Carlo.
Prince Albert, Princess Caroline, Pierre Casiraghi, Beatrice Borromeo, Charlotte Casiraghi, Andrea Casiraghi, Tatiana Santo Domingo, Princess Alexandra and Ben Sylvester took part in the 2023 Bal de la Rose event. The Rose Ball was created by Princess Grace of Monaco in 1954. It is organised every year in March by the Monte-Carlo SBM Group.

I don't like any of the dress! In my opinion a missed opportunity for fun/elegant/exotic dressed, alas no surprises from the Monaco family, maybe a bit disappointed about Beatrice, who usually saves the day
ReplyDeleteLuna
A missed opportunity indeed! It looks like they're all dressed for a different event. And an example again of how money can't buy taste or class.
DeleteAgree with you. Perfect example of extravagance with 0 taste.

The fashion winner here is Christian Louboutain with the flower blazer… e.
Deletelots of sequin dresses, Caroline and Tatiana look the most beautiful, Charlotte is epic fail.
ReplyDeleteBeatrice dressed for the actual ball. Alex didn't get the memo, but simply pretty
Charlotte "an epic fail"? I think she looks wonderful!
DeleteAnother chic night dress for Charlotte who can’t even wear it properly. She always picks the worst and most ridiculous dress of Chanel.
DeleteWell ....

Surprisingly my favorite is Princess Alexandra. She looks timelessly elegant and chic, the dress fits perfectly and her make-up, hair, jewelry all support the entire impression. Caroline's dress is sublime, I like her hair with some curls softly framing her face, and I approve of her accessorizing, far better than the model. Tatiana is acceptably sparkly, although I would have liked to see her with an elaborate sweeping up-do and some dangling sparklers for earrings. Beatrice got the Bollywood theme memo, but I'm not a fan of the dress, too structured somehow, it looks like it belongs to another era. Charlotte's look could have been okay, but the individual elements are not melding into a complete look - the platform shoes are a mistake, too clunky - the pink satin gloves are too loose, showing folds - the purse is a daytime quilted shoulder bag and should have been a soft pink, not white - and she has too much bare flesh showing, she needed more substantial jewelry, there's nothing wrong with quality fashion jewelry; unfortunately she reminds me of a little girl dressing up in Mom's glamorous evening wear. S.M.
ReplyDeleteYes, Alexandra is THE surprise here, so beautiful. A bit like the young Romy Schneider. e.
DeleteI think you right! Princess Alexandra looks wonderful and she is beautiful. Her face is radiant , her eyebrows .. just stunning and most appropriate dressed for this occasion
DeletePerhaps Alexandras dress is very "grown up", but she looks marvelous!
Deleteanna e.
Tatiana and Alexandra look the best. Caroline and Charlotte's dresses are pretty boring and Beatrice looks like she's trying to channel Marie Antoinette...ugh!
ReplyDelete...Marie
Marie Antoinette, ha ha ha! You are right
DeleteReally like Caroline’s dress but the rest are not as fabulous as they could be…
ReplyDeleteThis may be Chanel, but it looks so cheap
ReplyDelete👍
DeleteCarneval
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, I guess Charlene did not care to participate. All the dresses look like Mardi Gras outfits.
DeleteMy First thought, except Alexandra
DeleteThis isn’t the Met Gala or the wear my dress Oscars/GG/SAG. This is wealthy Europeans choosing to deliberately wear evening wear they like. It is their preference: note the different hemline, some not full evening wear. Don’t judge, but appreciate their personal style.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this sound of reason. This old biddies on this blog live in their bubble and have no sense of fashion at all. What is a pity. But they make me laugh. Not a word about the coiffeurs today. Go for it girls! Siv.
DeleteOh @Siv.
DeleteWhen you talk about "biddies" can you leave out the "old" ?
Words can hurt you know 😪
The only dress I like is Tatiana's.
ReplyDeleteSo do I.
DeletePauline
Who is the man next to Princess Caroline (in white suit)?
ReplyDeleteI don't like any of the dress!
Mm
The gentleman with the white (cream) jacket is Mika, the singer!
Deleteanna e.
And the winners are Charlotte Casiraghi and Tatiana Santo Domingo.
ReplyDeleteAgree!
DeleteI’d put the two names back in the envelope and let it accidentally fall into the rubbish bin.
DeleteThen you can announce that you can’t find the envelope.
Sometimes you have to do this to keep the show on the road. 😊
Accepting trends, I like most of them. Best are Tatiana, Charlotte and Caroline (the gown suits her quite well), glad she chose a lighter color than the model. Some disapointment about Beatrice (on pic2, much better on pic3) and about Alexandra (she needs something far more flattering).
ReplyDeleteWhat a pity, this childish dress for Princess Caroline! Her daughter Charlotte doesn't seem to care at all about the ill fitting shoulder-strap. Lucky she wore the marigold pink comfies...
ReplyDeleteI don't think the gowns are good apart from Tatiana's dress. Charlène is missing again as if she wants to say: "I don't want to have anything to do with my husband's family." This attitude is typical of her, you can see it on many occasions like this ball or a wedding within the Grimaldi family etc.
ReplyDeleteBut I think many of Charlène's fans and especially defenders on this forum won't tolerate this fact to be mentioned. As usual they get furious and rally to her defense! As if Charlène was a small and vulnerable little girl.
Pauline
DeleteVanessa
No need to read between the lines to see that you are not a Princess Charlene fan.
Delete@Pauline.
DeletePrincess Stephanie, like Princess Charlene, almost never goes to this fund raising event.
It is Princess Caroline's road show which she has carried on after the death of her mother, Princess Grace.
Plus this year it is the week-end in France and Monaco for the fund raising for the Fight-Aidss association.
Princess Stephanie plays an important role in this association.
@Pauline.
DeleteVanessa has explained it well.
Do your negative remarks apply to Princess Stephanie also?
She very seldom attends this charity raising event.
Again, didn't see her in the photo line up this year.
Oeufs morts: en peu obsede?

DeleteObsédé par quoi ?
Tatiana is best dress for me. A rare miss from Princess Caroline. I don't like Charlotte's and Beatrice's dresses. And Princess Alexandra's dress is beautiful but somehow does not suit her - I find this more to be her sister's style.
ReplyDeleteT
Alexandra is simply not glamouros enough for this dress. I am sure there are a lot of dresses that suit her much better.
DeleteAlexandras dress is quite "grown up", she should keep it for later, it suits her well.
Deleteanna e.
I think Princess Caroline looks festive and elegant. The dress, with its subtle touches of pink/red, flatters her figure, and the finishing touches - shoes, bag and hair - all lovely. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteTatiana looks best. Others just working for money or other benefits they get from fashion houses. Alexandra lacks charisma at all. Strange behaviour of Charlene who is again missing and failing to do her “job” as sovereign’s wife
ReplyDeleteCould somebody please explain to Anon 13:19 that this has nearly always been, and still is, Princess Caroline's party.
DeletePrincess Charlene has always stayed in the background for this event so that Princess Caroline can get on with the job of raising money for the famous Princess Grace Charity.
Could somebody tell deadeggs, that she is wrong. Charlene DID attend le bal de rose in the past, 2014 par exemple…
Delete2014 is 9 years ago and was the last time Charlene attended - and it was still Caroline's event.
DeleteCharlene does the Red Cross Gala which Caroline and Stephanie now rarely attend.
And the conclusion is...?
DeleteOh no, not another envelope to open. 😯
ReplyDeleteWell, if the general theme was "Bollywood" then the one who came closest to it was indeed Beatrice C.-B. My personal favourite, however, is the Jenny Packham number of Tatiana C.-S.D.
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly. Beatrice is theme-appropriate, Tatiana is classy and timeless, and while not Bollywood-specific, also not at odds (like Alexandra). Tatiana wins the evening for me (from her generation).
DeletePrincess Caroline was always the main patron of the Rose Ball, but Charlene has attended in years past. Since she was perfectly well next day, I have to guess she is likely avoiding events with the rest of the Grimaldis - possibly annoyed with the endless comparisons to the rest of the royal ladies.
CH
ReplyDeleteVanessa
It is a tradition since the 1950's to have a theme. It is not a fancy dress ball.
DeleteIt's mainly the decor where the theme applies.
Perhaps the theme for the first ball was 'roses'. Hence the name of The Rose Ball came about (perhaps).
Sorry @deadeggs but in the past, without it being full-blown fancy dress the ladies did give a nod to the theme in what they were wearing. It might just have been accessories or something but it was quite often there. When Charlene used to attend I always found she did it in a classy, understated way.
DeleteCompletely agree with 03.09
DeleteVery unkind comments.... unwanted and uncalled for.... Perhaps the fashion wasn't too everyones liking... But the unkind comments are plain mean..
ReplyDeleteWhich refers to whom?
DeleteOr whom refers to which? That is the question.
DeleteInteresting pics and interesting comments
ReplyDeleteTatiana has totally transformed from the boho scruffy vibe that she used to favour and, in my opinion, wears the best dress for this event. Along with SM, I would have liked to see her with an elegant up do but still looks good
Beatrice would look beautiful in a sack and while she is lovely, her dress is just too fussy and weird for my liking
Princess Alexandra looks good but somewhat understated for this event. Perhaps after the gloriously OTT red dress she wore last year, she felt she would go for something tamer.
Good to see Princess Caroline looking glamorous again after all the grey downbeat images we've seen recently. What a difference her nicely styled and coloured hair makes. Her dress is unexciting though much better than the "White Queen from Alice" outfit she turned up in one year.
Charlotte's dress is okay but the sloppy gloves are all wrong
Princess Charlene rarely attends the Rose Ball--it's very much an occasion for the family of the late Princess Grace. The last time I could find was 2017
No, 2014 - before the twins were born.
DeleteOh my--not sure about any of this. Caroline's gown is nice but those red or pink accents are a no for me. Still, she looks marvelous--love her hair and makeup. Alexandra is wearing a nice gown but her styling is blah especially the severe hair. The one thing I do like are her emerald(?) earrings. Beatrice is beautiful as always but she looks like she's going to a Venetian masked ball. Not sure about her gown other than its not her best choice. Her headpiece should have stayed home or in the costume ball closet. Charlotte--first the shoes are hideous. The gloves are a disaster and completely ruin what could be an elegant look especially paired with those horrid shoes. I love the gown on the model--as Chanel's spokesperson, Charlotte should pay more attention to how Chanel styles their fashions as her choices are not helping the brand. Finally Tatiana--she looks marvelous!!! Beautiful gown simply styled that is perfect for Tatiana. She is the fashion stakes winner for me.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Totally agree with your analysis!
DeleteI prefer Tatiana’s gown, which would have looked much better if her hair had not covered her shoulders, like on the model. I also favour the purity of Princess Alexandra’s black gown although, I agree, it somehow does not truly suit her.

I simply love the family, thouroughly enjoy the event every year. Obviously the ladies are comfortable in what the wear, their choice, their event, great for them👏👏
ReplyDeleteCaroline => Hair and make-up beautiful. Dress not so much. But points for it being rewear (Chanel Autumn-Winter 2012 Collection)
ReplyDeleteCharlotte => A stunning beauty, but the usual Chanel-mess.
Tatiana => Usually like her boho style. This is Alexis Carrington from Dynasty 1980's horror colliding with hairstyle.
Beatrice => Ever the fashion victim.
Alexandra => Bla... bla... bland.
About the galas in Monaco:
ReplyDelete1) The National Day, November 19th, the most important
all-day program, evening gala white-tie (frac) event
2) The Red Cross Gala (July/August), founded by Prince Louis (Rainier's grandfather) in the late 1940's. Grace as President until 1982, since then Albert. Black tie event.
3) The Rose Ball (spring), founded in 1954 not by Grace but the SBM. Grace & Rainier married 1956 so G started only after she had founded her Foundation. Black tie event. Presidency given to Caroline after Grace died.
4) The Circus Days (Competition) was founded by Prince Rainier in the 1960's. Originally a part of New Year's program, nowadays later. It's Stephanie's.
Albert usually attends all four, Charlene 1)+2), Stephanie only 4), Caroline usually 1)+3)
These take place every year and are directly connected with the princely family.
Margot
Merci Margot!
DeleteChanel is not what it was. The theme Bollywood only shows in the jacket of Mr Louboutin. The men all look good, the women not so much. Where's Charlotte's husband?
ReplyDeletePromoting Les Trois Mousquetaires- D'Artagnan which is on general release very soon.
DeleteI don't like any of these gowns. Charlotte Imo never seems to be polished or well groomed, this overall appearance, sloppy. I dont like the Chanel dress at all. Caroline looks nice, but the pink spray look I don't like at all. Tatiana's gown is a miss and so is Beatrice's. Pss Alexandra looks quite nice, the gown is okay but something about it I don't like, not sure what that is. I don't like to be this negative but I feel this was a real missed opportunity by the ladies, but regardless they are going obviously with fashion and what they like, and that is okay to!
ReplyDeleteI like Caroline and Alexandras gowns. The others are nice too but do not have the wow factor. BTW does Alexandras boyfriend never smile? he looks grim, most of the time. css
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised and rather disappointed that none of the ladies chose to wear a gown in the style of a sari. What a missed opportunity to look stunningly gorgeous! Beatrice is the only one who made an effort to look at all exotic, but nothing about her gown and headpiece particularly bespeaks India (to me, anyway). I love Caroline's soft, flattering hair style and makeup, but her dress looks odd to me -- strange length, and the incongruous hot pink accents detract from, rather than enhance, the overall look. Alexandra looks flawlessly chic and glamorous -- but like Tatiana and Charlotte, she chose to completely ignore the theme of the ball.
ReplyDeleteAfter all it is about a charity event, seems to work (and help) well. e.
ReplyDeleteI love love the dress of Princess Alexandra. Any idea of the designer? Thanks 🙏
ReplyDeleteI love love the dress of princess Alexandra. Any idea of the designer? Thanks
ReplyDeletePerhaps vintage? e.
DeleteAny informations about the jewels?
ReplyDeleteAlexandra s earrings are from Caroline.
DeleteCaroline is wearing a really odd dress. If one took off the oddly place pink color, it would have been better. This family seems to have an strange sense of fashion, and try very hard to make themselves appear fashion forward, it just comes off as odd. Edwina
ReplyDeleteCharlotte was perfection...simply perfection.
ReplyDeleteBeatrice, for all her beauty, tries waaay too hard and this time she looked over the top.
If Tatiana would do something with her hair, she would be stunning. And that dreadful, dated lipstick....!!
The men are most definitely the winners here. None of the ladies' outfits (imo) is worth talking about ~MS~
ReplyDeleteThis family prove money can't buy good taste or a stylist.
ReplyDeleteDon't suppose they care.
