On March 13, 2023, King Charles and Queen Consort hosted the Commonwealth Secretary-General, High Commissioners, Foreign Affair Ministers and other members of the Commonwealth community at Buckingham Palace for the annual Commonwealth Day Reception. The King and Queen were accompanied by the Prince of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Princess Anne and Sir Tim Laurence.
Before the reception, the King signed the Commonwealth Charter, a single document outlining the sixteen core values, which the leaders of the Commonwealth have committed to upholding. The charter had been signed by Queen Elizabeth II at Marlborough House on Commonwealth Day in 2013.

I remember seeing a picture of Anne and Charles in their twenties...how old they've become, all of them. And yet, here they turn out in force, many of them at an age where other people have long retired, and try to do their best to represent their country in a dignified way.
ReplyDeleteIn pensione?

ReplyDeleteNot a fan of Queen Camilla's outfit but Duchess Sophie and Princess Anne looks amazing in the photos ~MS~
ReplyDeleteThis time Duchess Sophie is wearing a dress that suits her very well. Maybe a tad too long but for this dress it is O.K. as it is also worn for a cocktail party. It is not bad at all. The lace on Queen Camilla's dress reminds me of the paper phantasies my grandmother used to attach on her kitchen shelfs. Princess Anne invented a new way to wear a scarf on her dress, very weird. But who knows, maybe it will become a new trend ?.
ReplyDeleteNew way to wear a scarf: my grandmere used to wear a scarf that way, when she had neck pain. Who knows...

Princess Anne and Duchess Sophie are look lovely, however Camilla looks dowdy. The white part of the dress should have gone up to the shoulder line. Edwina
ReplyDeleteLess formal but still very stylish.
ReplyDeleteI like the front of Q. Camilla’s dress: it catches the attention and steals the eye away from less favorable spots.
Pr Anne wears a lovely coloured simple dress, her hair is done differently and makes her face softer.
Duchess Sophie: also quite good.

I love the Roksana dress on D. Sophie, and for once the longer length looks elegant rather than overwhelming. P. Anne looks great in this simple dress with its many accessories - earrings, brooch, necklace, and even a scarf! I just wish she’d carry a different handbag so that the strap doesn’t compete with the brooch. Q. Camilla’s outfit is yet another version of the comfortable style she favours. (V.M.)
ReplyDeleteOh dear Queen Camilla was so tired of her usual style that she borrowed a Buckingham palace housemaid's dress by way of a change. Princess Anne whose taste dress sence I usually do not understand now looks incredibly elegant and the new Duchess of Edinburgh looks loverly. I think her skirt could be a bit shorter though and i do not really like beige shoes with a balck dress much.
ReplyDeleteSophie is knocking it out of the park again. Love her dress - it could be a liiiittle bit shorter for my personal taste, but since she's not wearing a coat on top, it's working just fine. Anne is Anne, I just don't understand her scarf placement, but maybe there's good reason for that. Camilla unfortunately loses today. The length and the cut of the dress are nice, but the black and white done in this panelling pattern reminds me of a waiter's or maid's uniform. It's much better in the close-ups, but in the first picture, she looks like she's waiting to take someone's coat to the antechamber.

After the lovely outfits for the church service, there's nothing here that really takes my fancy. I don't like the white 'bib' on the Queen Consort's dress and while Duchess Sophie's dress is lovely it's too long--even for this semi formal event. I am a huge admirer of Princess Anne but the black gloves at an indoor receptions seem ridiculous to me.
ReplyDeleteWhere is Kate?
ReplyDeleteGood question.
DeleteRead on another site that she had to pick the kids up from school.
DeleteOh poor Kate, should be exhausting as a mother of 3 with Pss of W heavy responsibilities!
DeleteA.
Other mothers of 3 have to do the same and they have to do the household themselves too and they usually have a job on top of all that.

DeleteAbsolutely, 100% agree with you.

Sophie's dress is very pretty. The Princess Royal looks beautiful, love her dress, the pearl necklace looks divine. Love the addition of a brooch.
ReplyDeleteCamilla's dress the white embroidery is very dense, IMO too much.
Again, the BRF ladies look lovely in their choices. Sophie's simple black or navy dress is wonderful for her--stylish and super flattering. Anne is wearing what appears to be an elegant silk dress--I like the color variations--and it appears she has added a scarf along the neckline in a very interesting way. Camilla's dress is her normal style preference and I do like the lace or embroidery but agree a bit less would have looked better, especially on the cuffs. Still Camilla's dress is quite flattering and black and white is a great combination.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Agree @Janet ; With the embroidery on Camilla's frock, a bit less would have been better.
DeleteAlso, from a distance, the embroidery on the neckline looks unfinished.
And again, but don't look now, the boots weren't invited.
They must really have their noses out of joint and I've read that, along with Fergie, they haven't been invited to the Coronation.
Like the dresses of all the RL. Pss Anne is a surprise this fress is very nice and look great on her. Are these her mother's pearls? css
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne looks lovely as does Sophie, Camilla's dress is a nice shape; a little bit over done with the lace. I think the Royals do a marvellous job; I think we all get older and with the wisdom of age; and maturity life is very rich, I find they are not robotic. The Duke of Edinburgh is steadfast and likeable as is his wife. Lets think US President or Charles; well Charles wins hands down(Tara)
ReplyDeleteI want to like Vanilla a dress but I just don't. I'm bored with that shape on her. Imagine if it were a suit instead of a dress. It would much smarter.
ReplyDeleteSophies blue Roxana dress is very beautiful and suits her well. It is one of very few dresses she wears where I find the longer length ok. The dress material has structure so it does not fall limp around her legs.
ReplyDeleteLadyofthemanor
Love Sophie’s dress too ! Good choice.
DeleteQueen Camilla and Princess Anne elegantly dressed for this very special day, but wrong dress code from DoE Sophie to come in a dress with short sleeves, IMO.
