Zara cascading floral earrings
Wow, I love that she goes all in with this dramatic look, and she can wear it!!
ReplyDelete//AA
I can only join my voice to the scepticism about the black gloves. The rest is wonderful.
DeleteWow. Stunning is the first word that comes to mind. Love the dress and the earrings. Her hair pushed back off her face looks fantastic and makes her look so young. I think long evening gloves are fab of themselves but just not 100% sure about these black ones with the white dress. Definitely proper old school glamour.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if the choice of black was anything to with the not so long ago death of Queen Elizabeth? But I think the look was a bit "heavy".
DeleteJust gorgeous heard on Sunrise news broadcast Australia the dress is recycled from 2017 just fantastic. Her hair make up & earrings are stunning. The only criticism, I don't really like the gloves think it would have been even more elegant without them. Overall breath taking ensemble..Mary
ReplyDeleteLove the dress, dislike the gloves immensely, they destroy the beautiful movement and white crispness of the dress. The earrings are different but they seem a little cheap against the outfit. As usual her hair and makeup look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteFully agree. Stunning dress but the gloves are a total mismatch - to the point they ruin an otherwise successful look.
DeleteI agree entirely: the gloves beg the question WHY, and destroy the beauty of the dress. The earrings have nothing to do with the dress or gloves, and they look cheap and tacky. - Ellie
DeleteI agree that the look of the breathtaking gown is undermined by the unfortunate length of the gloves. The dramatic contrast of black and white could have been wonderful, but unfortunately it’s hard to take one’s eyes off the left glove, which is so long that it collides visually with the dress, appearing weirdly like it’s trying to be a sleeve. Such a pity. If the gloves had been a little shorter, stopping perhaps just below the middle of the upper arm, the look would have been absolutely stunning. — Jane
DeleteI agree with Jane that the gloves could have worked if they had been shorter. The dress is stunning and I think the earrings are a great match.
DeleteLadyofthemanor
I agree with Jane too + I would have change the black into gold : golden gloves (stopping just under the elbow), golden clutch to match with the golden shoes.
DeleteThe gown on it's own is beautiful.
DeleteThe gloves with the white dress make her look like a swan.
The earrings are hideous for an outfit like this, but fine in a different context, like a casual, sunny beach.
- Anon 9:13
Totally agree with you Sandra F.
DeleteThis is really a top glamorous gala dress. Combined with these dramatic black gloves and Zara earrings, Kate at her very best.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous old Hollywood style
DeleteThis gown is a stunner. I don't know how I feel about the gloves. But The PoW can carry it off. css.
ReplyDeleteNope. I love that gown but the black gloves are too harsh and the earrings, well I'm not sure why she's even wearing them with this dress. They're great earrings but not in this situation. She has access to many beautiful diamond choices, she should wear them.
ReplyDeletePrincess Catherine looks exquisite, no surprise there at all. Love the straight hair, love the gloves, love the earrings. Everything is perfect. She has an absolute gift for recycling. Prince William looks handsome and amazing as well. The best looking couple!
ReplyDeleteI just have to agree about the gloves. The black somehow is just not the right choice. It makes me think of a crab. I like the fun earrings though and the dress is superb. For once she does not look like the garden rake in a coat dress it givs her curves.
ReplyDeleteUgly black gloves ruin the beauty of the dress. Tough job for the Wales.
ReplyDeleteAnna
I can't help seeing her as a swan.
Delete- Anon 9:13
No, its perfection.d.
DeleteIf the gloves were below elbows I think it would look much better.
ReplyDeleteAva
Really appreciate anytime gowns are reworn and that Kate tried a more editorial look, but the new styling and accessories don’t work together. Would have loved the gloves with the strapless black dress she wore years ago.
ReplyDeleteAgree with you.
DeleteAva
With all that’s going in with the dress and gloves, I would have preferred her hair in a chignon and a simple pair of large pearls.
ReplyDeleteAna Maria
So right. Lovely dress, but just too much statements here. Statement dress with statetement gloves, statetement earrings and statements shoes... Less would be more
DeleteTrue. Hair style is a disaster, we are used to better hairstyle from Kate. And yes these black long gloves are really weird on a white gown … 🫣
DeleteSusan
Awful ensemble. The severe black gloves colliding with the flowy white dress. And the cheap plastic? earrings add to the mess. Hair and make-up beautiful. Amy
ReplyDeleteTotally agreed.
DeleteThe black gloves and white dress makes her look like a swan to me. Even worse, it takes me back to that wonderful horror movie "Black Swan" with Natalie Portman.
- Anon 9:13
I love her dress and earrings …but totally dislike the gloves. Also, I would have preferred her hair in a chignon. Judy
ReplyDeleteBig wow from the Princess of Wales! The gown re-do is great--love the trailing chiffon off her shoulder. Very interesting earrings but I would prefer seeing her play around in the royal earring vault because there are some gorgeous things in there that need to see the light of day again. I am on the fence about the gloves--they are striking but not sure about being paired with this gown.Still, Catherine looks stunning. William is looking pretty fab himself!
ReplyDeleteJanet
She definitely needs to take off those ridiculous gloves and earrings. I wonder if she had to think about whether or not to use the gloves. I always say, if you have to think twice about it, leave it out. Catherine's look is always either too simple or too much. She has to find the perfect medium.
ReplyDeleteMaxima can somehow pull off bold outfits, it fits her personality.
Catherine usually strikes just the right balance between too simple or too much. Unfortunately these black gloves do not complement the dress and are quite ridiculous which is how Maxima looks most of the time, bold and overdone, no matter what her personality is.
DeleteMags
Never saw Queen Maxima with gloves like this. She has a lot of beautiful gala dresses and she would never wear cheap earrings with a gala dress when she is representing the royal family. During day time when visiting schools, hospitals, factories she wears plastic earrings too.
DeleteI love this look. I think this gown looks better in this revamped version than in its original iteration. I happen to love the gloves. I believe they are velvet. Bringing in black makes this a statement look. Lastly, her hair is gorgeous this way. I am over the curls, and the straight, sleek styling is fresh and youthful. I hope we will begin to see her step outside of her comfort zone more and more.
ReplyDeleteIt is great to see a rewear of this gown, though I don't like the reworking of new cascading piece down the side of her shoulder. I do love the gloves though they are too long, a little shorter and great!. The gold shoes are a miss for me. Her hair and makeup look splendid. The earrings are a no, I don't like these at all. Prince William looked fantastic from top to toe!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous floating magical gown dragged into garish goth by horrid funeral black gloves. Earrings are actually OK and remind me a bit of the golden flowers in one of Queen Margarethe’s tiaras. —Anne
ReplyDeleteA big no to the gloves with this dress. If she had a very bold colour with them it could have looked amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe black gloves are hideous !! Love the fun earrings !!
ReplyDeleteThe black gloves are hideous !! Love the fun earrings !!
ReplyDeleteLove the dress and earrings and hair. I think it would be cold without the gloves? ...I'm glad she rewear that dress.
ReplyDeleteI preferred the original version of the dress before it was remade, now the shoulder part is too busy to my liking and competing with the skirt./Grace
ReplyDeleteThe gloves add a touch of drama and theatre right for the occasion: love her courage!
ReplyDeleteMabel
If only the gloves had been white silk or satin, it would have been an stunning, even iconic look... But in black it is just weird.
ReplyDeleteI love the overall look and it is again a winner. A person can only admire her. I think the black gloves adds power to the look. Instead of looking soft and vulnerable like an angle, it adds a bit of devilish into the look giving her power. Well done
ReplyDeleteYou put it very well, Anonymous 09:08.The gloves add power!
DeleteHear hear!
DeleteAngle? Is she a right angle or an obtuse?
DeleteThe black gloves and white dress makes her look like a swan to me. Even worse, it takes me back to that terrific horror movie "Black Swan" with Natalie Portman.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Totally agree!
DeleteI'd love to join this "power" style fan club, and I promise to bring coffee and chocolates. ;-)
Вера 💚🦋
The dress is so pretty but the gloves ruin the delicate look. They just jump out of the picture. They're the first thing you notice.
ReplyDeleteWe must not forget very smart looking William
ReplyDeleteWell without question he is looking very dapper.
DeletePrincess Kate had an excellent cavalier for a gala like this.
Love the variations to William’s double breasted tuxedo.
I’m sure Prince Daniel of Sweden will be taking note of what can be done to his ‘on-duty-uniform’ .
Have just read on another Royal site that Prince William wore a tuxedo by Tom Ford which retails at a price of £3,350.
DeleteThe point is reusing a dress and give another twist without spending a lot of money. Lot of drama and theatre, just perfect for this evening.
ReplyDeleteAnna
I love the three item apart (glove, earing and dress) but not together. Maybe white glove would have be better.
ReplyDeleteKate had been on a winning streak of late, but this is ensemble is a mish mash of items which don't belong together.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the black gloves don't work with this stunning, beautiful, floaty gown. I don't believe the earring really work either, although Kate may have managed to get away with these earrings (which are beautiful) if she had worn her hair up.
Personally I believe this beautiful gown would have looked stunning accessorised with either pearl or diamond earrings.
I love her guts - not everyone can carry it off, but she can!! She's got GUTZPA!!
ReplyDeleteWow, stunning. I love the earrings (a sensible choice too, given the financial situation of many people in Britain) and the dress. I am not so sure about the gloves, but they add drama and flair. Probably her dresser/stylist (?) has been reading around in social media and found out that many people think Kate's satorial choices are too boring and "safe".
ReplyDeleteDon't you think the sensible choice would be to wear one of the hundreds of pairs of earrings she already owns instead of waste 30 pounds on plastic earrings? She really doesn't need to buy more accessories.
DeleteI do love the dress and the gloves. I would have left the back swag only, leaving the front of the bodice without embellishment.
ReplyDeleteI see why she accessorized the dress with the long black gloves. As she'd been wearing the same dress at a BAFTA event a few years ago, it needed some updates that would be cost-effective. The BRF at the moment tries to not overspend, so re-using and re-wearing seems to be the order of the day(s). A new dress would have raised questions. To re-wear this one and adding a few not too costly pieces needed to do the trick. It is not easy to get a slightly different look out of this dress, so the accessorizing had to be more on the drastic side. The earrings just might to be too much of cost-effectiveness, however. Also, the contrast between the dress and the gloves is quite harsh, though black and white always works well together, no doubt. Concluding, I can also see a look that Diana would have pulled off. But those were different times...
ReplyDeleteO.K. it’s an evening gala and there’s no limit to fashion expression.
ReplyDeleteA reware or remake of the gold dress the Duchess wore to the ‘Bond’ gala would have gone down well here.
The gloves, yes, but not in black. A rich vibrant colour other than black, could give the same effect
Maxima would die for those earrings.
They make a very handsome couple and they’ll make an excellent King and Queen of England.
p.s. has anybody got a photo of the dress before it was altered?
https://media.glamour.com/photos/63f2717b4adf4e4ed87e9638/master/w_1600,c_limit/1128742493 This might do...
Rossella
Thanks for the lien DSC. It works.
DeleteLe style de la robe n'est pas compatible avec ses longs gants. J'aurais préféré une robe près du corps , style fourreau.
ReplyDeleteLove the dress, like all individual pieces, but the styling is off. The flowy and romantic design doesn't match the edgy opera gloves, the earrings don't go with the elegant undertones and the clutch and shoes don't tell any story at all.
ReplyDeleteTo me it seems like they wanted to make Kate everything at once: sustainable (re-wear), relatable (affordable earrings), fashionable (out-of-the-box combo of gloves and dress) and elegantly regal (classic black/white). I think it'd be better if she only went for one or two of those things. Ditch the gloves, replace the earrings with something from the vault and bob's your uncle.
-Nika-
PS: William looks really handsome in the velvet attire, hope he gets to wear this more often in the future!
FAIL! for me. The black gloves just look stupid and out of place. Also, the earrings are horrendous. And while not the worst makeover of a dress it's certainly not the best. A repeat of a different gown not previously worn to the BFTA's would have been 10 times better than this odd combination.
ReplyDeleteEuropa
She looks so pretty and happy here! Love the dress and the gloves, just not together.
ReplyDelete1)Hair- wrong for the gown and opera gloves
ReplyDelete2) Why attach material to the left shoulder? It's messy with the gloves
3)black gloves-why??
4)earrings-have nothing whatsoever to do with the overall look
Rare head to toe flop for the Princess of Wales.
Judging from the comment about the opera gloves, she should give them to the charity shop and not keep them for a rewear.😁
ReplyDeleteThe black gloves and handbag are velvet to match William's jacket. I'm not nuts about them either, but hey, who am I to question this fashion icon. She is amazingly beautiful.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if she had added a black band/belt to the dress? Nah, it's just not right. I'm actually surprised that when she looked in the mirror she didn't realize it was a, "No," and left the gloves at home. I mean, it's happened to most of us. You think in your mind that something will look really good together but then when you put it all on you think, "Hmmm." Even the the great Coco Channel said, “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take at least one thing off.” That one piece of advice has saved me so many times.
DeleteEuropa
Europa, if you talk about Coco ChaNNel it Is not llikely to be a good piece of advice.
DeleteMaybe this Coco lived in Dover and said that to someone living in Calais?
Madam Channel know what she was talking about.
DeleteAn incoherent overall presentation
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to rewear the dress why not rewear some earrings? She's A Princess, pearls or diamonds would have looked more appropriate.
ReplyDeleteA totally coherent, statuesque look, quite sophisticated, and bold, love it!
ReplyDeleteA no from me.
ReplyDeleteT
Catherine is bold, outstanding - she dares do something new!
ReplyDeleteOMG!!! What happened to Kate??!! The black gloves are very weird!
ReplyDeleteA big no for me. It looks cheap and try hard. What a big miss from her stylists. At least she does have a lovely smile.
ReplyDeleteMARIE
Absolutely love the look. So glamorous. And the gloves and earrings works so well with this dress. The overall look is one of confidence and royal power
