On February 25, 2023, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended a rugby match played between Wales vs England at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The Princess is Patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU). The Prince is Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016.
Ahead of the match, the Prince and Princess met with injured players who are supported by the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust. The Prince and Princess of Wales then officially opened the Sir Tasker Watkins Suite, a new space at the Stadium which is dedicated for use by the injured players and their families ahead of matches.

Looks like a catherine walker coat and familiar (old) boots, very nice!

Agree. She wore the coat when she was pregnant with Louis. e.
DeleteYes, she wore that coat in sweden.e.
DeleteAnd the beautiful empress earrings. e.
DeleteA little bit back to earlier looks, like it.
ReplyDeleteYes, i missed these knee length styles, i thought they were gone forever. she looks lovely
DeleteGorgeous coat with a youthful flair. It fits Catherine beautifully! MR
ReplyDeleteAgree. It’s great look
DeleteAnnieM
Well, this will be interesting. William is for Wales and Catharine is for England. So who won.? This is a nice coat she has'nt worn in a very long time. css
ReplyDeleteEngland won 20-10, their first win in Cardiff in 6 years. Love the coat (complete with her English Rose rugby brooch) and the coordination with William’s tie. The alterations from her wearing it in Sweden (2018 when pregnant with Louis) are flawless and I like her black contrast better here than the burgundy in her previous wear. Not a fan of the bright white purse, I think black would have been better. Otherwise a great look for their meetings before the game (especially their reception time with injured players), and opening the center and stadium.

They rule over Wales, England and Scotland, (and others) so need to please everyone to secure their golden throne 😜
DeleteJanet
They don't rule - the King reigns.
DeleteOutstanding! … Ana
ReplyDeleteMuch as I am a fan of Kate's, I am not a fan of the pattern - a bit too loud, I think.
ReplyDeleteDiana wore a jacket in those colors, and exactly same pattern.
DeleteHorrible
ReplyDeleteYes agree with you 👍
DeleteWell, pray, tell what is so horrible about it?
DeletePfff … is it not too formal and over-dressed to go to a rugby match?
ReplyDeleteSuz
O.K. then could you tell us what you would recommend the Princess should wear to a rugby match?
DeleteBoth William and Catherine are dressed quite formal, I guess there were reasons for that. I like the coat, would however not want to see it too often. I had a blaser in similar pattern and color. Yes back to classic style, a reuse.
DeleteTake example of the down to earth and lovely swedish royals or danish royals. They are also crown prince/princess, able to dressed chic and casual. Their children don’t go to the matches dressed as the stockbrokers in the city of London …
DeleteS.
No, it shows respect
DeleteThe gentlemen on the third photo are also well dressed, so its fine with me
Deleteanna e.
How is it too formal for a rugby match? You dress up to show respect and they're "on show", same as e.g. the Mayor sitting behind them who is wearing a suit, or the coaches, or the players themselves when they're not in kit.
DeleteWilliam and Catherine also had an official reception before the game with the Welsh Rugby Union, previously injured players, and their families, after which they officially opened a new suite named after Sir Tasker Watkins (an amazing welshman) for those players (who have been given lifetime game attendance opportunities) and their guests at the Stadium. So not just out to watch a sporting event. There are tons of photos of them at sports events dressed down as well as those of other royals (even the Scandinavian ones) dressed more professionally. The difference is if they (or other nations’ royals) have other official duties while there.
DeleteFun fact: there are photos of Sir Tasker Watkins receiving the Victoria Cross from George VI for amazing actions at Normandy during WW2 and later sitting with Princess Diana and a young Prince William watching Welsh Rugby.

So does it mean that all the nordics royals (swedish, danish, norwegian) are not showing respect when they are dressing casual to go watching a sport match?
DeleteS.
Princess of Wales forgot to wear her fancy hat on this occasion to complete her perfect look and shows ‘respect’ 😂
DeleteGuys, please don’t take it wrong, purely a joke following your comments …
Rachel
What is the expression ? "You can never be too overdressed, but you can be too underdressed" or something like that ??
DeleteNever seen a stockbroker in a short red and white tweed outfit.
DeleteSo how did a stockbroker come into this conversation?
DeleteSomebody forgot to close the door? 😁
Most of the time Prince George would go to a match dressed up like a stockbroker with his tie and all, well no surprise given the parents are ‘showing respect’ 😂 while other royals kids can be casual.
DeleteGorgeous!!! Love this coat/dress--classic and so chic!
ReplyDeleteJanet
I love the Princess’ coat when she first wore it in Sweden and I love it today with her short booties. They both look elegant and well-coordinated. I hope their team will be successful.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess has an interesting/intriguing look on her face in the last pic. She looks happy! Keep smiling!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunbibg very regal & not a working corporate look. Love it I think this is another recycled coat. Mary
ReplyDeleteIts great to see a rewear of this coat, I love the pattern and color. The accessories this time work in well, love the bag. Her hair and makeup look fabulous.
ReplyDeleteCute coat, but a bit difficult to wear. I don´t think that this combination with black is entirely successful. I think the coat needs white or red complements. The fit is flawless though, and it´s also a great choice for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteL'avrei preferita con gli stivali al ginocchio, questi corti tagliano un po' le sue belle gambe.
ReplyDeleteRossella
She can wear it.
ReplyDeletePauline
Love it. She does suit stronger colours. The only thing is a no for me is the bag, red or black?
ReplyDeleteSuch a minor thing great outfit, for a great lady doing a great job.
Why have you not got them from the other day where the Princess was doing sign language? it was wonderful to see, how she puts her heart and soul into things.
ReplyDeleteI don't like the thick black tights nor the white handbag with this coat. Black or red handbag and black shoes with tights in a natural color would have been better.
ReplyDeleteIt all ties in with the general colour scheme red, white, and black. Red/white are the colours of England anyway. The black tights and boots are probably to brave the cold. Do try and sit in an open stadium in Wales in February for yourself. You'll be freezing to death quickly. I think it was done for practical reasons.
DeleteI think she’s wearing leggings. A dress with hose would be too formal. I’m guessing here but I think a dress would be too formal, and if she doesn’t take her coat off who would know,
Delete@DSC 13:31
DeleteIf it is that cold she should have dressed differently. f.ex. A red or black warm parka and black or red trousers. A white and red scarf. She has all these colors and clothes in her dressing room. It is just a question of coordination.
So cute!! Jumps off the page it's so cute!! Love that coat!!
ReplyDeleteTrès joli look dans ces couleurs rouge et blanc ; avec les bottines, c'est parfait !
ReplyDeleteLots of comments about the coat. If nobody's interested in the Mulberry handbag, I'll take it 😁 Always wanted one.
ReplyDeletePattern of the coat is strong , but kind of outdated and too much geometry, the Mulberry bag could be a success, but in black color, not white, even red was still better, appropriate shoes selection could be a better option
ReplyDeletePied de poule pattern is never outdated imo !!
DeleteSi je me trompe pas, le motif pied de poule est plus petit que le pied de coq ?!
DeleteI love this coat. It looks like fun and she looks beautiful. I must admit, at first glance I was thinking no, but the look grows on you.
ReplyDeleteI loved this coat first time round. But much prefer this look. The black is a nice contrast to the coat. I would have gone with a black bag, but I’m guessing she went with the England colours. (White&red)
ReplyDeleteI was hoping she’d have cut her hair. Too long now. When she had it at shoulder length it really suited her. No one did a bouncy blow out like Catherine!
I think this outfit is cheerful and above all! - is in the colors of the English team, of which she is the patron. I would recommend high black suede boots for this outfit.
ReplyDeleteStephanie
The coat is actually quite pretty, but the other parts of the outfit don't go well with it. -Siri
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly like the coat; had it been a short cropped jacket it might have looked nicer, with a skirt. The little white bag doesn't look so nice either,a black bag would have been better. or a red bag.It might have been good if George was there.William looks fine (Tara)
