On February 24, 2023, Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Prince Carl Philip, and Princess Sofia of Sweden attended a prayer service for peace in Ukraine in connection with the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The prayer service took place in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Royal Palace. February 24, 2023 marks one year since Russia invaded Ukraine.
The Vampire's Wife Corduroy Festival Dress
QS: Standard 'uniform'.
ReplyDeleteCPV: Sombre classic dark navy ensemble. Simple jewellery and accessories. Perfect for the occasion.
PS: Yet another same old same old ugly Vampire's Wife dress. The most unimaginative design formular. You can spot these eyesores from miles away. Pantyhose too light and shiny. She favours Stinaa J's orthopedic pumps - perhaps bc of the platforms as she is very short - but they are not the best looking heels. Hair and make-up appropriately subdued. Amy
I actually quite like the Vampire´s Wife dress. Nice material, nice colour, good fit. And most of all, I think it was a great choice *because* of its design as it has an Eastern European vibe about it. Also, I think it was a good call to reduce the massive ruffle on the original design to a short hem-detail echoing the sleeves. I like the look. (But I agree about the too light tights.)
DeleteTo Vanessa: Why do you think Sofie's dress "has an Eastern European vibe"? I don't think there is anything like it in fashion. I am from Central Europe, in the east, we have a border with Ukraine, and hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees live here. From a fashion point of view, fashion in our area is exactly the same as in the west of the continent, I must assure you.
DeleteThe brand "Vampire's Wife dress" is definitely not popular in Eastern Europe, as is the massive ruffle. Traditional national costumes have these elements, but they are not transferred to ordinary outfits or forrmal fashion or casual fashion. Swedes also do not make fashion according to their national costumes, which are very similar to those of Eastern Europe. This is just for general information.
This particular dress fits Sofia very well and is appropriate for a church service. The haircut is not the best.
I think it's admirable how Sofia handled being married into royalty. She does his charity work without unnecessary drama and with dignity. Likewise her husband Prince Carlf Philip - although he was a Swedish "Spare" for a long time, compared to the British "Spare" the Swedish Prince is brilliant. This comparison just forces attention.
Stephanie
I rather like the VW dress of Sofia s well. A nice global look for her; Qn S ok as usual, and Victoria, two days in raw of old-fashioned and ageing look for her, a pity, without commenting the hair style...
DeleteReplying to Stephanie's post about PCP&PS and her comparison with H&M. The situation of the Swedish "Spare" and his wife is totally different from that of Harry and Meghan. In the Swedish royal family CP is not the only "spare" but there is Madeleine, too, which already makes a big difference. It changes the family dynamics a lot. The Swedish royal family is also a much more united family unit. They don't compete with each other on the media front , whereas in the UK, the odd symbiosis between the RF and the tabloids creates all kinds of interrelational tensions between the different palaces. Furthermore, Sofia was never felt as a threat to the other members of the Swedish RF, even though she has similar kind of natural talent as Meghan has in connecting with people. Meghan's talent and initial popularity, however, was felt as a threat, which then in the end resulted in H&M leaving, which really was a loss for the British RF. And last but not least, Sofia is Swedish and white, she comes from a similar cultural background as the other family members, which has made it easier for the public to accept her, whereas Meghan's background made her an easy target for racially motivated attacks.

DeleteTo B: I think you are wrong. You claim: "IN the Swedish royal family CP is not the only "spare" like Harry in the British royal family. I have to correct you: There are other spares in the British royal family too: Queen Elizabeth II had 4 children, all of them, including children are in line of succession.
Delete2. Maybe the British tabloid is more attacking than the Swedish tabloid, the British tabloid really uses the mistakes that the British Spare made a lot.
3. Don't drag race into everything. The vast majority of the public did not see it as a problem at all.
4. Appalling public attacks on own brother, own father, pulling out intimate private details - all this is so low, undignified, ungentlemanly.

In my opinion
DeleteSofia= Queen of confident and hard work
Meghan= Queen of drama and fantasise
I repeat: IN MY OPINION

To Stephanie:
DeleteYou answered that question yourself. The Eastern European vibe I´m feeling with this dress is of course not related to the brand but to the dress itself. I don´t care what the brand stands for, or whether it is popular; I explicitly stated that it is the design of this very dress that gives me that vibe. The shape of the dress is reminiscent of traditional East European costumes, the tight bodice, puffed sleeves and flared skirt are elements found in both Ukrainian and Russian folk dresses. The ribbon and hem detail in the skirt and in the sleeves also remind me of Eastern Europe folk dresses which often feature horizontal embellishment of the same kind. I know that modern Eastern European women don´t wear those costumes on a day-to-day basis, but that is irrelevant. A regional vibe is always connected to the specifics of traditional clothing rather than modern international fare that is very similar almost everywhere these days.
To B.
By and large, people respond to people´s actions, not to people´s identity, even though media and identity politics try to make everything about gender, race, religion or other "markers" to brand entire groups as good or bad.
While there are certainly differences in family dynamics between the royal families of Sweden and Britain, I think that both Sofia and Meghan were judged for what they did, and not for who they are. Sofia had a wild past and was criticized for it, and rightly so. She did some things in her youth that are not acceptable for someone who is meant to represent the nation. She has changed though, and has since adopted a way that is dignified and commendable. As a princess, she hasn´t hurt or offended anyone, neither in her family nor in the country. As a result, she is now liked and respected. It doesn´t erase her past, but it shows maturing, a sense of responsibility and understanding of her role.
Meghan on the other hand was liked and respected initially. She had a career, married a prince everyone wanted to see happy. She has since said and done a number of things that are unacceptable and have caused irritation, offense and conflict. As a result, the initial support for her has dropped and instead turned into criticism, and rightly so. And none of it has anything to do with her skin colour or her cultural background.
There are numerous examples of international, intercultural, interracial royal marriages that were readily accepted by the population. The Dutch for example, embraced Maxima and never had any issues with her latina background and never felt threatened by her talents and popularity. Popularity means that someone is well liked, so Meghan can´t have been popular and seen as a threat at the same time. That´s absurd. Meghan is disliked for one reason only, and that is her manipulative, agenda-pushing, attention-seeking personality.
To Vanessa again: I understand you, but I want to give you a friendly advice that your words "The Eastern European vibe" may cause a misunderstanding. In your second post in the discussion, you said that... the dress is reminiscent of traditional East European costumes... That is much more accurate expresion. Some phrases and word combinations have completely different (more political) connotations in our geographical space.
DeleteI really like your answer to "B" - I think exactly the same.
Stephanie
All three RL look super. The Queen stands out with the white jacket. It seems pleats, are in again. Sofias dress is lovely maybe a bit on the heavy side? The British Pss and the Swedish, like the Vampires wife collection, it is a nice look. css
ReplyDeleteWhy is Sofia speaking?

Does she have shorter hair?

DeleteSylvia looks great - she is 79 years old! Just great. Compare her face to that of Camilla, who is 4 years younger. Camilla's face is full of wrinkles - and she looks old. The rest of the Swedish Rf looks good, too, Victoria and Sophia.
ReplyDeletePauline
Queen Silvia has had cosmetic surgery and fillers. That is why she looks so good for her age.
DeleteQueen Silvia has had a lot of plastic surgery. Queen Camilla not.
DeleteQueen Silvia has fewer wrinkles because she has plastic surgery - she admitted it herself some time ago. Camilla doesn't have plastic surgery, but she always looks elegant. Both ladies are seniors.
DeleteStephanie
Oh yes, for once not only negative comments about cosmetic surgery ...
DeleteIt can be a success but it requires good choice about the practitioner. I heard about nurses doing it, totally unqualified.
I don't know if I think it's fair to compare the ageing of people, we're all different for a start. And added to that it's said the Silvia has had cosmetic surgeries, I don't know, but people in the knowing says so. And why not? I could think that you could get tired of seeing yourself in papers and magazines all the time and then people make remarks about how you age........it's complicated and we live in the 2020's.......Ac
DeleteQueen Silvia has never smoked, that's the main reason to look younger despite the surgeries.
DeletePutting the possibility of plastic surgery to one side, may I say that Camilla is/has been an outdoor girl with a life of horses and hounds.
DeleteI think her preoccupation has been the animals and not what is happening to her skin. Cold winter winds, hot dry summer weather etc.
Queen Silvia has probably lived more of her life indoors and spent some time and money on nourishing her skin. One makes one’s choice.
More than anything else, being a smoker has aged Camilla. No cosmetic touch ups can reverse the damage done by decades of smoking. Hats and sunscreen can protect from the damage the sun does, not lifestyle.
DeleteI don't like Princess Sofia curtain bangs. It's borring for me now.
ReplyDeleteCherry
You are not the original "Cherry", I presume. Your English is too bad. Why are you using someone else's alias?
DeleteHow do you think my statement should sound correctly?
DeleteCherry
To the person pretending to be me ( 21:18) there she goes again… not only your comment is not grammatically correct, but is just vapid and ridiculous, I don’t think that bangs qualify as “ boring”. What’s wrong with you? I mean really? If I were you I would start questioning my mental health, spending time on a rather civilized forum pretending to be somebody else in order to stir controversy, is just not healthy if you are an adult.
DeletePlease seek help.
On the fashion front, I find I like Sofia’s dress, discreet and appropriate, love her hair. Victoria looks very elegant and somber, and Queen Sylvia kicks it out of the park.
Cherry
There are a lot of people nicked Cherry. Me, you and milion else. So what? You patented it?? There are lot of cherries in the trees. So what? Is it your own word?
DeletePlease seek help;)
Cherry
Cherry is only a word. Everyone can use it.
DeleteNot a reason - and not the reason for you to use. You're just attention seeking because you must be lacking something in your life.
DeleteUse of possessive apostrophe. Bangs are plural and require a plural pronoun. Boring only has one r.

DeleteQueen Silvia looks amazing, easily the best outfit. I like Princess Sofia’s dress but think it would be better with sheer black tights. CP Victoria’s outfit is okay
ReplyDeleteAnnieM
The whole group looks nice and well turned out, but I’m giving top marks to the Queen’s beautiful outfit. Classic with interesting details and perfect fit. Hoping the King’s recovery is going well.
ReplyDeleteI like Sofia's dress. I have the same dress. I have four TVW dresses myself and it's great seeing Royals wearing them. Crown Princess of Norway has also worn a gown. Hope to see Queen Letizia in this brand; she'd look fabulous in red.
ReplyDeleteWhere are you from? Where are you wearing your TVW dresses?
DeleteAll 3 Swedish ladies look so good here. Silvia is lovely in her classic and elegant suit. Victoria looks great in her somber navy blue dress and jacket--her simple pearl earrings are her only jewelry helps highlight the seriousness of the event in my opinion. Sofia looks wonderful in her navy dress. Not sure about the choice of courderoy for dress fabric but this seems to be the latest choice from the Vampire's Wife. I usually struggle to appreciate the Vampire's Wife designs but this one is very flattering to Sofia. Hope King CG is feeling well and on his way to a full and speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteJanet
I agree. I think they all look very good. (V.M.)
DeleteVery well said, Janet. And very polite. I also generally dislike VW dresses, they seem too much attention-grabbing, “look at me”, kind of busy without anything classy about them. Especially in bright colours and shiny fabrics. This dark coloured corduroy one, with a rather smaller ruffle, looks vaguely better. The fit is good on Sophia.
DeleteCH
Indeed the whole world needs to pray for peace 🙏
ReplyDeleteThe Queen looks superb, combined with the strand of pearls, a beautiful and elegant outfit. Pss Sofia's dress is pretty. CP Victoria looks beautifully groomed.
ReplyDeleteLa reine Silvia porte une tenue à laquelle des touches moins classiques ont été apportées ; quel contraste par rapport à Victoria et Sofia ; choix judicieux que le mélange de perles de son collier qu'elle a l'air d'adorer !
ReplyDeleteIs is true that Princess Sofia can't speak English?
ReplyDeleteShe speaks English. Believe she spent a lot of time in the States when she was a young woman.
DeleteIt would be highly unlikely that any Swede with an even halfway decent level of education could not speak a certain level of English.
DeleteShe speaks English very well. Love her dress!! Janie
DeleteWhat do you think about Princess Sofia's change?
ReplyDeleteLove the dresses from the Q and Pss of Sweden. Always classy. BTW Pss Sofia does speak English she lived and worked., in the USA for a year or more. josebabe.

DeleteShe moved to NYC in 2005, studying at New York Institute of English and Business while working as a yoga teacher (certified) at Yoga to the people.
If you look at Queen Sylvia closely and especially her profile, you can tell that she has resorted to cosmetic surgery. In my opinion, this does not make her look younger because her face looks twisted and unnatural, plus the harshly dyed hair. Although Camilla is very wrinkled, probably from smoking and excessive sun exposure, you can still guess her true age because other factors count, like facial expression etc. I prefer Camilla‘s natural approach.

To me Qn Silvia looks fantastic, her cosmetic surgery is a success in spite of what you are saying. Decision about going into it is a personal decision and should not be criticised, unless a total failure as it sometimes happen.
DeleteTo MaryT: I think that everyone should have the right to freely say what they like and what they don't like.
DeleteI do not condemn plastic surgery at all, but unlike you, I think that in the case of Queen Silvia, it is not a complete success. Her face looks a bit artificial to me. But I still think she is a beautiful woman and an elegant lady with impeccable, truly regal demeanor.
Stephanie
MaryT, totally agree. She ages gracefully, probably does something here and there but looks fantastic overall. Also I do not agree that her hair looks harshly dyed. The woman is almost 80 and has access to the best stylist in the world.
ReplyDeleteFor her age, she is remarkabel.
