On February 9, 2023, King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway hosted a gala dinner at the Royal Palace of Oslo for the Diplomatic Corps in Norway. Crown Princess Mette-Marit could not attend the gala dinner because she was ill. Crown Prince Haakon and Princess Astrid of Norway were present at the gala dinner.
The ladies both look great and princess Astrid's tiara is sweet and fun! Nice to see that she is able to walk again.

I never commented on Sonja’s choices because I didn’t have a reason to. She always looks nice but nothing really wowed me until now. She looks stunning. The gown is ageless, in fact it would look good on anyone from 1 to 99, (adjusted for size). Abby
ReplyDeleteThe Queen looks fabulous!
ReplyDeleteThe cut as well as the colour is stunning!
What a good idea to put the soft grey against her face and the festive turquoise for a beautiful full skirt.
Her sister-in-law is also beautifully dressed!

What a rock Princess Astrid is. She attends all these galas despite back problems and other illnesses and her antenna tiara always makes me smile. When it comes to Queen Sonja's dress I would have liked to see it totally in the gray fabric which seems to have some interesting print or embroidery. Now the top looks a bit overdone with the pattern under the insignias. A plain gray would have been better with this skirt.

Princess Astrid's gown is very pretty and her tiara is out-of-this-world fun. Love it! Queen Sonja's gray and turquoise (satin) gown is very nice, the tiara is one of my favorites. So sorry that Mette-Marit is ill and I hope she is better soon. The King and Prince are very handsome in formal wear.
ReplyDeleteThe grey and turquoise dress looks fabulous on Queen Sonja! Her pearl jewels are the perfect accessories. So nice to see Princess Astrid out and about again! Lovely shade of yellow with her many red orders and ruby tiara.

How wonderful to see Pss Astrid able to attend, she looks beautiful, love her gown. Queen Sonja's outfit looks fabulous, the skirt is very lovely. The jewels look splendid.
ReplyDeleteThe RL look, splendid. The Tiaras worn at an event is always special.Pss Astrid is always there, she seems to walk with a cane. Now that is what I call commitment to Duty. Where was CPss MM? css
ReplyDeleteOù est Mette Marit?
ReplyDeleteSta male.

Rossella
Rossella I hope Kate's waiting is long. Then yes we will see the haughty looks (“sguardi altezzosi”) of the little commoner. Irene
DeleteQueen Sonja is always stunning in an evening gown.
ReplyDeleteAnd here we see no exception.
Nice to see Princess Astrid looking as smart as usual and still doing the job.
She will celebrate her 91st birthday this year.
NOTE: Queen Sonja has an advantage when it comes to fashion.
As a young student in Oslo she studied and obtained a diploma in dressmaking and tailoring. After Oslo, she went to a finishing school in Switzerland where she studied fashion design.
In 1959 she met her prince charming. There was a pause of nine years before she could marry her prince as her future father-in-law was not happy that his son, the Crown Prince Harald, was going to marry a commoner.
Finally in 1968 King Olav V gave in and the prince married the young Miss Sonja. And as the story books always tell us “they lived happily ever after”
It should also be said that, long before King Charles did it, King Olav walked his future daughter in law down the aisle to show his support for her and Crown Prince Harald. A lovely story.
DeleteThank you @Anon 17:48 for the additional information.
DeleteI have been able to find a bit of history on her father and mother.
His name was Karl August Haraldsen, born in 1889.
He was a clothing merchant and died in 1959. Queen Sonja was married in 1968.
Before her marriage Queen Sonja was Miss Sonja Haraldsen.
So that could explain why her father didn’t give her away.
From the piece of history I read, it appears that her mother also died before Queen Sonja was married.
deadeggs this is wrong. Dagny Haraldsen died october 15, 1994. Dagny is standing next to Harald on the wedding photo. Sonja lost her sister Gry in 1970 due to suicide and her brother Karl died in an explosion 7 year old, 1 year before Sonja was born. She also had another brother Haakon that died 95 years old in 2016. https://premium.vgc.no/v2/images/7d32780c-f109-4834-9b53-feb799cf7e10?fit=crop&format=auto&h=1516&w=2048&s=36d4395d1ea23fbfaccb0c5a773bbce6d4bc41b3
Delete@Anon 13:00 : You are right regarding Dagny Harraldsen, the mother of Queen Sonja of Norway.
DeleteFrom the information I was able to find it didn’t give an exact date of her death. It was believed that Queen Sonja’s mother died before Queen Sonja got married.
Thanks for the correction.
Thanks also for the link to the superb photo of Queen Sonja’s wedding.
Deadens, these informations are not sooo difficult to find - just try the Wikipedia section about Queen Sonja https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Sonja_of_Norway
