On February 9, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Crown Princess Amalia of The Netherlands arrived on Saba Island as part of their Caribbean tour. The royal family were welcomed by Island Governor Jonathan Johnson. The royal family then visited the village of Zion’s Hill and attended a presentation on lacemaking, a Saban tradition. Afterwards, they visited the village of Windwardside.

The royal family then visited the Expertise Center Education Care in St Johns, which supports vulnerable schoolchildren. The organisation won an Orange Fund award in 2021. Afterwards, the King, Queen and Princess visited The Bottom to play sports with children on the world’s largest Cruyff Court. The royal family's Caribbean tour ended on Saba.

  1. I love the Queen's dress, it looks wonderful and very appropriate. The blouse Amalia is wearing is very pretty, love the red pants. The little girls are dressed so beautifully.

Love Maxima's dress and CP Amalia's blouse. The colour of Maxima's dress matches the turquoise waters surrounding the tiny island (no beaches, except a black sand one). This is the time and place to wear those Prada earrings!
The print on the sleeves of Amalia's blouse is just the right amount to off-set the solid colours. Her red pants look good on her. Both ladies should have changed their shoes to flat soles after arrival, for easier walking.
Saba is one of the most beautiful islands I've been to and I've visited many. It is so tiny, very tropical and has Mt. Scenery in the middle that you can hike up as we did on one of our three trips there. The landing at the airport (very, very short runway) is a heart-pounding thrill! :)

Yes please explain what the wardrobe disaster is today (both the OP and those that agree with he/she/it/they). It would be nice to hear what your viewpoint is as to what they should be wearing on a tiny, hot, Caribbean island on a very sunny day. Do tell. Thx.

  7. I like Maxima's dress here - lovely color, great fabric and style. I'm not so sure about Amalia's blouse - I like the sleeves a lot, but I think the neckline could be more flattering? The earrings are a great choice, though.

I will gladly call you crazy. You have failed to notice all the other people wearing sunglasses. Some people are very sensitive to light and need to wear them. It can be medically necessary. The eyes also require protection from the sun. There is nothing wrong with wearing sunglasses when meeting people. If you live in a sunny climate, you think nothing of it.

      Delete
    2. No, I wouldn’t call you crazy, Maybe you just don’t understand.
And I don’t know what the protocol is in reference to sunglasses. Or if there is a protocol.
I’d agree with you about wearing them indoors when meeting people (unless for medical reasons). But outdoors on a Caribbean island with its glaring sun and a sky full of lumonisity, well, just being practical could be the order of the day. I know from holidays on Mediterranean islands that sunglasses for most people are a must. The strong light can be killing if you’re not used to it.
Princess Anne (Princess Royal) wears sunglasses a lot when outdoors and meeting people ??? One hundred and one photos of her on the internet wearing sunglasses whilst meeting people outdoors. She is a royal who is very "correct" and she lives in a country where lumonisity is nothing like the Caribbean islands.

    3. Anonymous10/2/23 17:27

Here, in the Caribbean, we wear sunglasses all of the time. Who are you to decide what is protocol?

Our Royal family is here on a visit, not to show off their clothes.

      Delete
    4. Anonymous10/2/23 17:48

No I would not call you crazy. The idea of not wearing sunglasses is that you are supposed to look each other in the eye. Some sunglasses are not so very dark so they still allow eye contact up close, shaking hands etc. I think it would be better for royals in this situation to wear a hat, like Amelia's beautiful Borsalino the other day, if you need to shade your eyes. It is also a lot better protection for the skin.

What a beautiful dress Maxima wore. The past two weeks have been a real pleasure watching her. clothing and hairstyle have been great. Amalia was very nice too, but she should have put her up, like her mother. I think the humidity played a role. The oversized earrings IMO were not so great. css

  11. Wow! What a long journey for the dutch royal family, almost fourteen days now. So many outfits, but nothing outstanding in my eyes. I do like this ocean blue dress on Maxima. The cut and lenth are good. I don't see her wearing blue often but it suits her so well and it fits with the Carribean vibe. For Amalia's choice I have nothing good to say. Somebody should tell her that it doesn't help to create a horizontal line on the broadest part of the body. The blouse should have been either shorter or longer. It also doesn't help to accentuate the upper arms with that pattern on that blouse when they are already broad. She is still young, I get it. And it is definitely not easy to dress for her height and body type. A good stylist would help a lot and also help to gain more confidence with being in the limelight.

It’s been a joy to watch this tour and the great outfits worn by Queen Maxima. This isn’t my favourite outfit but it’s a lovely colour and appropriate for the occasion. Lovely hair again. Princess Amalia’s outfit is one of her better ones. The lighter blouse with the red trousers suits her well.

Q.Maxima looks wonderful in her white-blue dress. Clear blue looks so good with her blond hair. Her hair are once again in beautiful, soft and elegant updo. Her accessories well choosen, nothing over the top.
Amalia's red-white combination looks good on her. More slim fit trousers look more flattering than wide trousers. Red earrings finish the look.

I'm in team-Amalia. She saved best for lest.
Her outfit looks young, playfull and refreshing. Not to mention it works slimming.
Why? Because the trousers with straight legs does. And red is such a loving colour!
The blouse distracts from the problem area and focusses on the with flowers print sleeves.
The shoes and bag the same, what a nice addition!

Amelia's outfit is hideous as most of her choices on this trip. I understand she is young & still discovering her fashion style. She needs a stylist's help. On a positive note Overall it was not a bad effort.

    Hi everyone.
I'm back after quite a while stop for working reasons.
Well, reading through comments here and back during the Dutch Royals' tour in the overseas territories of the kingdom, I cannot help wonder why all this amount of negativity has been thrown at the expense of CP Amalia.
She Is meant to be a future Queen, not a model on the catwalk and I think she was perflectly dressed for the occasions, places and climate of the Caribbean Islands
    Then the sunglasses issue.
Whoever is so surprised at her wearing glasses (or her parents) gives the impression they have never toured anywhere outside in the real world, not to mention any hot and sunny spot😂
You do not only need wearing your sun glasses almost all the time when going outside there but also put a ton of sun protection all over your body and face more than a couple times during the day.
Just consider the skin tone of Amalia and her parents.
As to Amalia's alleged insecurity: I just think she has all the reasons to be cautious and look for support from her wonderful and loving parents.
This is her very first official tour abroad at such a young age and she has been threatened in her home country too.
Security was surely set to protect the royals everywhere on this tour but Amalia had a right to feel a bit frightened anyway.

    To @Deadeggs: well said.

    2. P. the original. So lovely to see your post, welcome back!. Just what this blog needed some kind, warm words. Hope you have been fine. I agree with all your points re: Amalia. I thought she did brilliantly, her first Royal tour. Aside from everything else the security issue for her, is quite disturbing. Its alo't for someone of her tender years to cope with and frightening. Take care. Australia.

Dearest Ava, thank you so much again!!
Yes, exactly right, Amalia did brilliantly on her first official tour despite all the reasonable fears she certainly had when going places, meeting crowds and being under the scrutiny of all the photographers around her.
Just a note about her make- up.
Amalia has a beautiful face but I have noticed that she used some kind of harsh black eyeliner around her eyes at the beginning of the tour.
I think that a soft black or brown eye pencil well blended out and a simple gloss in a budrose shade on her lips would do wonders for her.
Then I have noticed that she seemed to have no make- up at all on her face on the final days of her tour and it was a wise choice imo because even waterproof products may fail under the glaring sun and hot temperatures in the Caribbean Islands.
      Hugs.

    4. P. the original. Yes, I noticed that to and you made very good points. Re-- makeup. Agree with you. I was wondering how hot it was while they were on tour, I can imagine the temperature's must get quite warm. Sincerely.

Well I have enjoyed the fashion this trip. Spending time in the tropics is a nightmare fashion wise, it's so hot and humid you always feel like a wet rag. The Queen and the Princess have looked very nice to me. Some of the negative comments are dreadfully critical of young woman that is trying very hard to dress appropriately. She thankfully has a great supportive family. Jj

Czuję sentyment do księżniczki Amalii.
