On February 22, Queen Margrethe of Denmark underwent an extensive back surgery at Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. In a statement, the Royal Household said "the operation went according to plan and the Queen’s condition is good and stable."
Queen Margrethe will continue to be hospitalized at Rigshospitalet for some time, and an extended period of recuperation and physical rehabilitation of her back awaits after that. Queen Margrethe has experienced back problems for some time.
Since Tuesday, Crown Prince Frederik has performed the royal duties as the regent. Starting on 25 February, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary will make an official visit to India, and Princess Benedikte will therefore function as regent from 25 February.

ReplyDeleteAs someone who has (and continues to) experience back problems - not to the point of requiring surgery (thank goodness) - she has my full sympathy and empathy. I wish her nothing but a full, speedy, and hopefully mostly pain free recovery. I hope she doesn't feel rushed or pressured to recover quickly. Back issues take time and can be extremely frustrating (again, speaking from personal experience). God's speed your Majesty and my sincerest hope for good health.

Hopefully this will make a big improvement in her back condition. And of course the king of Sweden had a heart procedure performed on 20Feb. |Melanie|
