On January 25, 2023, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain held the traditional New Year's reception for the diplomatic corps accredited in Spain. The reception took place in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace in Madrid. The Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation were also present at the reception.
Hugo Boss Bibosa silk bow blouse
I realize this occasion has a difficult dress code, he in morning suit and she i long dress but not an evening gown. I still find the combination of a prim blouse with a pussy bow and a floor length skirt odd. Both are beautiful in their their own right but not together in my mind. Blouse and long skirt reminds me of house parties in the 60-70s. Perhaps a crisper white shirt would have been better.
ReplyDeleteJust love her earrings and how they match the outfit.
Ladyofthemanor
Agree. The combination is a bit off the mark. The skirt is beautiful, I wish it was mine. I do like the blouse as shown with the checkered trousers, but not matched with this pink skirt.
DeleteI agree. This isn’t one of her best looks. To me the soft, flowy blouse and skirt look a bit ‘limp’ when worn together. (V.M.)
So the blouse is not by Hugo Boss.
Delete@Angie tells us the blouse is by Carolina Herrera
Later in the comments, @Virginia, mentions that it is from a style originally initiated by Yves Saint Laurent
So who gets the trophy?
She looks beautiful. This wouldn't have been my 1st instinct to put together, but it works. It just looks so simple, yet elegant. Those earrings are fantastic with it. And her hair is perfect. She just knows how to nail it.
ReplyDeleteChel
I disagree, in my opinion this is a flowing, soft, flattering and very feminine look.
ReplyDeleteThe blouse is a classic blouse initiated by Yves Saint Laurent a long while ago.
Perhaps the skirt is slightly long, but that is a minor point. A white shirt would have been far too casual next to the king, who is very elegant and in formal attire. His tie reflects the colour scheme of his wife, very sweet, reminds me of the Japanese imperial couple.
🌞 Virginia
It’s a rare miss for Letizia! Odd separates, put together. The blouse is more fitting for a suit. The skirt albeit is in keeping with dress code requirements is bland, clinging in motion.
ReplyDeleteCette lavallière et cette jupe trop longue Non, non, non et non !!!!
ReplyDelete
DeleteWow, quelle opinion intelligente et bien argumentée... LOL
I agree, i think that a different material for the blouse was needed. It seems as if both pieces are "hanging"
ReplyDeleteThe rest is lovely but a rare miss in my opinion
Luna
I think she looks delicate and beautiful . Anne
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what the protocol is for dressing for a New Year's reception, but, I can't imagine that the Queen's feminine pink and white ensemble would not be appropriate. The pink skirt is beautiful and fluid; the white blouse, with the bow is lovely; and her earrings are gorgeous. Her hair and makeup are done very well. And, of course, the King looks very handsome.
ReplyDeleteTwo pieces apart, with appropriate other pieces might be nice, but the blouse and skirt together are too droopy, and do not look well together.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful, elegant outfit. I love the skirt, it sits well and flows beautifully on movement. The blouse is gorgeous, very pretty and feminine. The earrings are stunning, love the color of the stones. Her hair and makeup looks perfect.
ReplyDeleteThese pieces do not work together. Frumpy. We all know she has so many other choices.
ReplyDeleteI think Letizia looks wonderful in this interesting pairing. While the top has a bit of business flair it does have a very fluid flowy style that works with the gorgeous skirt. The skirt is the real winner here. Perhaps she could have chosen a less businessy looking blouse but this choice is OK and certainly falls within the protocols of the very difficult dress code. Her earrings are stunning--perfectly matching the skirt.
ReplyDeleteJanet
The protocol is very complicated, It is in the morning but a long dress is needed, however It can"t be an evening gown..
Delete@Janet. Thanks, you have said all the things I was just about to write.
DeleteThe only addditional thing I'd add is that the colouring of her ensemble fits in well with the decor of the Throne Room of the Royal Palace.
Could this have been intentional? An arranged marriage?
I think she looks beautiful. She has such an incredible waistline that she manages to pull this off. On anyone else this could have looked absolutely horrendous
ReplyDeleteIranian men do not shake hands with women, they just hit them?
ReplyDeleteWhat an insulting sweeping generalisation.
DeleteAnon 01:21...that's what happened, the Iranian did not shake hands with Letizia.
DeleteI was shocked to hear that! How misogyn!
DeleteI was referring to the generalisation about Iranian men hitting women. He did not hit the Queen, you have no idea if he has ever hit any woman and to suggest that all Iranian men would do so IS insulting.
DeleteI know he didn't shake hands - Letizia wasn't expecting him to as she knew the protocol, she didn't offer her hand and he did greet her by placing his hand on his heart whilst looking at her.
Coralie - it might be misogynistic on your view (and others) but it is part of the (government) Iranian practice due to religious beliefs. No insult was offered by their standards and none was taken by the Queen - it was diplomacy.
Woman Life Freedom
DeleteHow enigmatic and meaningful Coralie. The women of Iran thank you for your futile gesture.
DeleteYou don't know Jina Mahsa Amini? You have not heard of Jin Jiyan Azadi? Then you are not only aggressive, but also ignorant. And, of course, you write anonymous.
DeleteAn awful lot of assumptions there Coralie - wrong but you go for it.
DeleteYou were also misinformed about what happened - it was misreported. The Queen did not expect to have her hand shaken. (But I'm the ignorant one). 🤪 You may find that misogynistic but it's hardly surprising that the official representative of the Iranian government would follow the cultural norms of his homeland.
I'm neither aggressive nor ignorant - sarcastic maybe. I really don't see how repeating slogans adds anything to the points I had previously made - you neither acknowledged what was said nor did you expound on why you agreed or disagreed or why it is that you think it's OK to insult the male population of an entire nation. I seem to be the only person who seems to think suggesting that all Iranian men must hit women is wrong. Or thinks it's offensive to conclude that because they don't shake hands with women that they automatically hit them. Try something - replace Iranian with another word eg. Black, gay, Jewish - does the original poster's question still seem acceptable to you?
Finally - take the Anonymous thing up with the blog owner who claims not to accept comments from anonymous posters but does... You also had no problem with anonymous posting when you joined in with the comments. What exactly do you gain from my not being Anonymous? If I call myself Gertrude does that mean you will find my comments less "aggressive" and "ignorant"? Does the fact that you sign yourself Coralie mean I read more into your comments?
Le noeud Lavallière est trop long sur cette jupe très ample que j'aurais légèrement raccourcie afin de mieux voir ses chaussures ; j'adore ses longues boucles d'oreilles sur lesquelles je crois voir des émeraudes, rubis et... ?!
ReplyDeleteThe protocol is a long skirt...
DeleteQueen Letizia is looking beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLisa
I think she looks amazing. Love the soft pink and the drape and flow of the fabrics. Her earrings are gorgeous and just perfect with the outfit.
ReplyDeleteI think this surprising combination looks great. L's sense of style is impeccable, she knows how to combine clothes with her own personal style. Her sleek hairstyle is spot on. -Siri
ReplyDeleteI think she looks fine, although I agree with most that the blouse is not the best choice to pair up with the skirt. A more tailored white blouse with a boat collar and perhaps a small broach on the side, would have been ideal.
ReplyDeleteCherry
The skirt by itself looks nice. The blouse is not the right top for the event, OMO. css
ReplyDeleteMe encanta
