Greece's former and last King Constantine II died on Tuesday aged 82. Suffering from chronic heart and mobility problems, the former king's health condition had worsened and he had been hospitalised several times in recent months. King Constantine was his country’s head of state between 1964 and 1973.

The passing of anyone who was loved as a person is a sad event. Condolences to his immediate family and to the many European royal houses to whom he was intimately connected and related. RIP.

Sad news. The end of an Era. He also was an Olympic Medal winner; I believe in sailing. He has done a lot for his Country now he is denied a State-funeral. Hope none of the Politicians get one either, when their time comes. He will be missed by many. His Funeral will be as a private person, but he is allowed, to be buried at Tatoi at the Royal Cemetary. This really boggles my mind. Hope lots of the European Royals will be there. css

  12. Sad news but not unexpected given his health scares. He always seemed to be a real gentleman in any reports I saw about him, usually in his dealings with the British royal family. It seems petty of the Greek government to refuse some kind of formal funeral. . He was, apparently, happy that he would be buried at Tatoi so at least that will happen. May he rest in peace.

    Condolence to the family.
Not knowing when would it be s beter moment to ask, does anyone knows what would happen with the titles?
The crown prince will not be called King, right?
The end of an era. One time Queen emerita Sofía said, I'm a daughter of a king, sister of a king, mother of a king, so much lineage, we will see less and less of this, i believe.
Also very interesting how this Greek dynasty is actually Danish, correct?

The Greek Dynasty were German and later Danes. Constantine II was officially known as the last King of the Hellenes, so yeah that's probably the end of it.

I see pics today; some family members are at Tatoi. the Cemetary looks horrible. I believe there was a fire last summer, no one from the Government seen fit to have it cleaned up, or did they not care? Maybe the Government should have asked the people if the King should have a state funeral, he was their Head of State? or am I mistaken, I don't think so. css

It seems the Cemetary is cleaned up. Wonder if the RF had to hire a cleanup team or did the Government finally do it. The Tatoi Palace and surrounding Area should have been handed over to the UNESCO as a historical site., since it was taken from the RF, I am sure it would have been protected, since it is also a Nature Park. Well, I am just guessing, but it is History. and should and need to be protected, for future Generations. History good or bad belongs to the world. not just one Country. css
