On the second day of their visit to Bonaire, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Crown Princess Amalia of The Netherlands visited the Taste of Bonaire Festival in Kralendijk, a cultural market with local products, culinary offerings and musical performances. The King, the Queen and the Crown Princess are visiting the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands from 27 January to 9 February.

I don’t get Máxima’s dresscode. She wears hars and gloves while visiting farms in Holland. Yet for this state visit she dresses informal like she’s on a private holiday…
ReplyDeleteThis is not a state visit because Bonaire is a part of the Netherlands.
DeleteThis kind of visit is called a “ working visit” when in Europe, to meet local people and learn about local industries, activities, problems, etc.
That having said : indeed the choice of clothes seems badly coordinated between father, mother and daughter. When M. wears smart casual I would think A. could follow her example.

ReplyDeleteIt is 28 degrees outside. Night are not chilly at all. Why wear a jacket? Noone else does.
ReplyDeleteI can think of no other reason other than she is self conscious about herself, which causes her to choose jackets and long, loose, floaty clothes. Let her be. In time she will decide what she likes best and what she is comfortable with wearing. She is a beautiful young lady for sure.

Probably because she feels self conscious of herself. She is only 19yo. Not unusual at all for young ladies and gents of her age...and in her case she has the added element of being in the spotlight. Give her time and she will develop into her own comfortable image, exactly as it should be.

Not sure but I think the CP might have been sunburned on her arms--perhaps she felt chilled from that and chose to wear a jacket. Janet
DeleteIn a tropical climate, nights can be chilly due to the clear skies and sea breezes.
DeleteMmm, interesting choice of outfits! Age wise, I feel they could have been swapped. Queen Maxima’s outfit is youthful and could easily have been worn by Princess Amalia. The yellow dress definitely looks to me like something an older lady souls wear— well I would, with a higher neckline and shorter skirt. Don’t think this is a flattering look for the Princess at all
ReplyDeleteI agree. Amalia should stay away from those long, floaty dresses, they look good only on very lean people, and there aren´t that many of them. Most people end up looking wide and big in that kind of stuff. She should go for simple designs, shorter lengths, sportier and more youthful outfits.
DeleteIn addition to choosing non-flattering designs, I think she also often overdresses. The evening clutch looks out of place at the street festival, and the blazer is too formal. The way she wore it almost like a cape is way too dramatic.
She´ll find her style and start wearing things that enhance her look rather than hide behind big and long clothing. I commend her for going on this trip and seemingly enjoying the encounters she has. It´s not easy to be the center of attention.
Nice to see them have a little fun too. I like the Pant ensemble, from Maxima and the dress the Pss wore. I was not a fan of the DvF dress on day one. css
ReplyDeleteQueen Maxima should give her hair the same attention she does here; looks healthy here whether its hair piece or not. Dress code is suitable to weather. The princess is body conscious hence the jacket, she’s a lovely young lady still figuring what works for her.
ReplyDeleteMillie
Sorry Millie but I think the jacket is for the low night temperature in a tropical climate.
DeleteAs someone who had been fat and not feeling good when I saw how fat I was in pictures, I think I can understand why she had blazer on her despite the temperature and why she keeps her long hair covering her cheeks. It's not easy to be in the spotlight in a world that has Catherine Middleton as the golden standard.
ReplyDeleteSpot on !!
Delete??? Donot know anybody by that name,

Thank you for sharing this personal and sincere point of view. Helps me to understand.
DeleteThank you for commenting on the real issue here. Ladyofthemanor
DeletePss Amalia looks lovely in pale yellow. Her first royal tour with her parents she is doing well. Q. Maxima looks great in her white outfit, love the necklace, the gold accessories blend in well.
ReplyDeleteI think Amalia has a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteShe just is kind of at that awkward freshman stage.
Kim
Maxima looks really good, the crisp white and the sleek lines suit her. Not the biggest fan of the chunky gold accessoires, but they work with the look. Amalia has potential, but I think she still has to find her own style. The yellow isn't really her colour (too pale) and I think she's trying to wear clothes that are "safe" to make an already quite nerve-wracking official visit more comfortable. Nothing wrong with that, but I look forward to seeing her in something more distinct.

Before we start criticizing/commenting on the Queen and her daughter’s fashion choices, we should remember that they are not in the Netherlands with temperatures around zero -
ReplyDeleteThey are visiting tropical islands.
Humidity levels on these islands can get to around the 80's.
Daytime temperature can average around 27° celsius.
Because of the clear skies, the night temperature can be low.
Humidity and hair are not good friends.
I think Queen Maxima has a great challenge in an environment like this with her hair.
Princess Amalia is still a teenager and needs time to find her “fashion” feet.
I think they are both doing well with their Caribbean fashion wardrobe/s
deadeggs!
ReplyDeletePlease note that nights in the ABC islands are n e v e r chilly,
It's true. I've visited the A B C islands as well as Saba, Statia and Sint Maarten more than 25 times since 1985 (we have a holiday place in Sint Maarten) and have never encountered a chilly evening in any of them at any time.
