On December 13, 2022, Queen Letizia of Spain attended the opening of The Cervantes Institute in Los Angeles, the first to open on the west coast of the United States. The Cervantes Institute was founded in 1991 as a public body aiming to promote and teach Spanish language and spread Spanish and Latin American cultures.
The Cervantes Institute in the Californian megalopolis will focus its work on cinema and the audiovisual world. The new institute will also contribute to the prestige of the culture of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries in other fields such as literature, art and music.
Carolina Herrera double-faced wool straight-fit coat
The cream and camel colours look great on Queen Letizia but what on earth is the point of the coat worn like this. It just looks weird, especially in the posed photos where it looks like she has four arms. Presumably it's not that cold since the other two ladies in the photos are wearing dresses. Shoes and bag are great too.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, I wondered the same thing - everyone else do not wear outerwear but she's standing there long coat draped over her shoulders. Why? It provides no real heat retention. And it looks weird when person seem to have four arms...
DeleteShe's not a fashion blogger who has to show off what's underneath. She's not a fashion mag editor attending the fashion show.
Some find this charming trend but it looks silly for me, sorry.
If she had worn camel colored blazer over her white dress, then this would have been wonderful. Hopefully next time?

I so agree with you about the coat, either put your arms in or wear a cape. However, her outfit with the classic cream and camel is great, she looks beautiful.

Between 10C and 15C for a Spaniard , It is cold, It is rare temperatures under 10C. And most elegant women wear the coats like that, being so covered looks like "rare", It is not so cold in Spain. We wonder why tourists wear shorts at 20C... Sometimes, culture is important.
DeleteIn fact, Máxima is from Argentina, Spanish heritage
Anon 06:30...in fact, in Spain, people are asking her to show Spanish fashion as she was a blogger and she is doing It...
DeleteActually, being so covered with the coat is considered tacky, she is not strolling around...and the climate in Spain and California is similar.
The Queen looks fantastic except for the coat over the shoulders look. Maxima can pull it off because she’s so tall but Letizia is so petite that the coat drowns her. Such a beautiful outfit to show off instead of drowning it with the heavy coat. MR
ReplyDeleteIn Spain women are not Big and almost everyone considered elegant, wear the coat like that, sometimes we see women that come across they are naked underneath because the coat cover them.
DeleteExquisite from head to toe. I love everything about this look, not least of which is her shoes and handbag.
ReplyDeleteAgree @ Debra.
DeleteQueen Letizia looks smart and stylish and gives an elegance to the outfit.
Don't understand all the hoo-ha about the coat.
It's a WOW from me.
I agree with your comments too, Debra. Every piece is luxurious, especially the shoes and bag, and the color combo is fantastic. I live in California and we are having unseasonally cold temps right now, so a coat is not only an added fashion piece but a practical need as well.
DeleteBella combinazione di colori, ma questa mania del cappotto sulle spalle quando finirà? La trovo anche molto scomoda.

I love the coat over the shoulders. I am completely confused why it is so strange to so many. It is very elegant. Women have been doing it for many decades. You can search for pictures of Princess Grace and the former Grace Kelly wearing her coats this way as far back as the 1950s. She even did it with her fur coats. Caping your coat does not crush your dress or sleeves, and it is a nice alternative when it is not warm enough to wear a coat but you need a little something to keep warm, maybe from car to a building. It is winter in California.
ReplyDeleteLetizia looks great here. She really knows how to put an outfit together. I love the entire look.
J'ai grand plaisir à la voir porter du camel associé à du blanc ; élégants sac à mains ainsi que ses chaussures à brides croisées ; est-ce que je me trompe quand j'entrevois des petites créoles ?!
ReplyDeleteAs a few have said above, caping a coat is not a new thing it has been done for years, and generally it’s done when the climate is on the cool rather than cold side, also helps while riding in the car and not wrinkling the dress, she wore the coat for either the initial or final pictures, and remained coatless during the event. I find the outfit, exquisite both in color, style and complements.

This is a beautiful outfit, stylish and elegant. The color combination works well and I love it. The shoes and clutch, wonderful.
ReplyDeleteA stunning look for Q Letizia. css
