On November 4, 2022, King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the celebration of the 175th anniversary of the Circulo del Liceo (The Opera House Club) at the Great Theatre of the Liceo (Gran Teatre del Liceo) in Barcelona. The Circulo del Liceo opened in November 1847 half a year after the inauguration of the Gran Teatre del Liceo. It is the oldest club in Spain that keeps its original headquarters. It is a point of reference for the social and cultural life of Barcelona and Catalonia.
Gorgeous earrings on Letizia! The deeply saturated blue also looks great on her. She is so polished and a good representative for Spain.
ReplyDeleteI think her clothes are getting stranger by the day. don't like the cut of the dress, the one dress where the back was cut out did not flatter her at all.
ReplyDeleteThis thread is not about the dress that she wore some other time, it’s about today, IMO there is nothing strange about this one, I find it sleek, perfectly tailored and with a lovely saturated blue. One side off the shoulder, nothing unusual about that on a formal evening dress.

She already wore this dress in the UK in 2017, and nobody thought it strange back then
DeleteShe already wore this dress in the UK in 2017, and nobody thought it strange then.
DeleteActually the dress is a repeat and she wore It in her visit to UK.
DeleteAs usual it is a case of you like or not !!!
DeleteIf this dress is strange, then call me the weirdest of the bunch, because this is drop dead gorgeous. I loved this when she wore it on her London visit. The draping is beautiful. The dark blue color is classy. Gorgeous earrings. Stunning!
DeleteChel
The dress - I love it and she wears it well. bravo.
DeleteThis is a lovely colour for Letizia. But sorry I don't understand this model with one naked shoulder. I never like QL with naked shoulders/arms. Although doing apparently a lot of exercise she is very thin and showing all these bones well I Just don't think it's attractive
ReplyDeleteIMO she is the fittest & finest Queen in the world.
DeleteAnd that is why they make chocolate & vanilla, I love her arms and don’t find anything wrong with being fit. If she were overweight with thick arms would you object her showing them?
DeleteHere we go again, commenting on her body. It's her body type (look at her sister), exercises daily and is healthy as an ox. Enough with body shaming.
DeleteAgain scrutinizing women's bodies pretending you are talking about clothes?
DeleteFace it.
DeleteLetizia has a well toned body, irrispective of your shaming her for working out.
Not everyone can have a figure like hers.
You will never change the way she wants to be.
I don't see any "body shaming" here.
DeleteI don´t see any body shaming here. 🙈
Delete@Anon 23:04 @Coralie @ Anon 18:17 "...doing apparently a lot of exercise she is very thin and showing all these bones well I Just don't think it's attractive." That is body shaming. There have been several comments about her body lately. Most have to do with her muscle tone. There should not be an argument about whether or not this body shaming. Comments about anyone's body in a negative way are wrong. She knows how to dress her body. End of discussion.
Delete"Well I don't think this is attractive" is an opinion. Not "bodyshaming". Everybody has their opinion. Otherwise it would be a bit boring, wouldn't it.
Delete@Coralie Cherry picking the ONE part of the statement that is an opinion to try and excuse your comment and ignoring the rest of the statement that is body shaming speaks volumes. You know you were wrong. You have been here a long time. You could set a better example.
DeleteDidn’t she wear this on the state visit to the UK ? Sure she wore it on the second night.
ReplyDeleteAnother look that leaves me a bit puzzled. Letizia looks great and the deep blue suits her incredibly well. But I feel like the top part of the dress should be structured differently. The design is not prominent enough to pass as a one-shoulder gown and it looks a bit like the sleeve accidentally dropped. It's better in the close-up pictures where one can see the actual distinct pattern. Same goes for the fold on the hip. From afar, one might think they forgot to remove a pin or something. On a positive note, I really like her earrings!
ReplyDelete-Nika-
Agree with your description, Nika. It's a fabulous dress in a gorgeous colour but the off the shoulder bit looks odd to me too. I wonder if it's because there's a "collar" to the neckline? I also think this looks much better on her toned arms (admired by some I know!) than a completely sleeveless look.
DeleteNika, I totally agree about the sleeve that looks as if it has accidentally dropped. That is why I dislike this dress, although the colour is gorgeous. I don't dislike a one-shoulder-dress in itself but this design is not good.
DeleteLetizia looks fabulous! This shade of blue is marvelous for her. I'm not totally sold on the gown because of off the shoulder part of the neckline--it looks like its falling off--and the draping of fabric across the midsection in the front is odd. A single shoulder, straight style would be much more to my taste but Letizia is pulling this off anyway.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Love the color of this beautiful dress and I find the unique one shoulder design really appealing. She looks better than women half her age!
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite evening long dresses for Letizia. She hasn't worn it since the trip to the UK in 2017 and looks as superb as ever.
ReplyDeleteHer hair is perfect and the earrings are lovely.
Letizia looks beautiful , the color of dress and style suits her very well.
ReplyDeleteAva
No fun for the King
ReplyDeleteBarcelona?
DeleteWould have been nicer with the left shoulder like the right one, but still very attractive,
ReplyDeleteMabel
Rossella 🌹
The Queen looks stunning. I love the dress
ReplyDeleteBelle couleur de robe dans laquelle je vois un corps tonique et toujours ses cheveux merveilleusement lissés et brillants ; bon choix que ses boucles d'oreilles diamants/saphirs même si je ne raffole pas de ces derniers !
ReplyDeleteThis dress is several years old. She has previous worn it with an up-do and tiara. It is quite beautiful on her. I love the color on her almost as much as I love her in red. The draping is very well executed, giving the gown a sense of movement. I am going to disagree with the comments that Letizia's dresses baring her shoulders or back are not flattering or in some way vulgar. Women have been showing their shoulders, back and décolleté for centuries (queens included.)
ReplyDeleteIt is terrible to shame her for working out. She does not have a bodybuilder's body. If you look up female bodybuilder, you will see how much muscle they have. I think we have become so conditioned to seeing people that have not exercised, it is a shock to see a woman that does. It is a decision to build muscle tone, but it is her decision. Personally, I would love to look just half that good!
Me too. I agree, "half that good" would suit me fine.
DeleteIn addition to exercising, she also has had some strategic surgical alterations, additions, subtractions and enhancements. In my opinion she achieved good results, but nevertheless very noticeable. Nobody is shaming nobody. I love her shiny hair and this gown looks good on her. I think the sagging shoulder looks contrived.
Delete@17:02 The tabloids tell you she had surgerieees and it is repeated with no medical evidence. The nose was done after the second child. The rest?, do tell! . Aesthetic treatments, which are also obvious on other family members are not surgeries, but let us shamelessly repeat the mantra to feed the gullible. Another form of body shaming. LL
DeleteGorgeous.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colour for Letizia and the draping gives nice volume on exactly the right place. The sleek hair looks fabulous. -Siri
ReplyDeleteSculpturale, magnifique
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong with being toned babies, it takes a lot of hard work.
ReplyDeleteDP
Very nice look for Q Letizia and super color. css
ReplyDeleteIts wonderful to see a repeat of this beautiful gown. The fit, style and color is fabulous. This design looks perfect worn by the Queen. Her sapphire and diamond earrings are stunning. Love her bracelet. Hair and make up look lovely. King Felipe looks really well attired, he looks so handsome in his tux.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous @ 17:02 you mustn’t believe all the idiocy that is spewed by Letizia’s haters. If one knows about skin care and non invasive procedures, you would obviously see that she had a Rhinoplasty, and that’s it.
ReplyDeleteShe definitely uses fillers and Botox, perhaps because she had a very angular face without a gram of fat, these treatments are less obvious now because she seems to have found a good balance. I am sure that she has a very good beauty regimen, including peels, dermabrasion, resurfacing etc., which is nothing unusual nowadays. So, no I don’t think she has added, subtracted or tweaked anything. There was so much talk about implants for a while, and then she showed up in a very tight red dress that truly showed that she was still the same size, so blah, blah blah… I admire her tenacity, she was a very thin woman with very small arms, and now she has a fantastic sculpted body.
Cherry
I don't particular like this gown, for me as well looks as Nika said a bit like the sleeve accidentally dropped, nevertheless she looks polish and royal
ReplyDeleteLuna
It goes to show you what an amazing designer Carolina Herrera is. This is a very structured gown and yet it gives you the impression that the shoulder has casually dropped off. The line of the shoulder matches the lines of the draping. I think it is very artfully crafted.
DeleteShe looks wonderful and very fit. Her hair is beautiful. IMO she's the best dressed and by far she has the best hair of all royals.
ReplyDeleteThis dress was worn to the Guild Hall dinner in London in 2017 with an impressive pair of sapphire earrings and a tiara. Not the same grand effect here, but she looks beautiful
ReplyDelete@0021: What you see is called draping and represents the difference between off the rack where the fabric would be a separate piece to create the illusion, where as Herrera uses one piece of fabric to drape at the hips, flare out at the thighs and create a train that floats behind on the floor. From the back it fits close to the body. As for the top, it is version of the one shouldered look without deliberately styled to look as if the strap has fallen. Sometimes it is better to look as the dress with an idea of what the designer had in mind, rather than looking at the garment with the eye of a down market shopper who sticks to a single silhouette.
Bella
.
So glad that you can read the designer's mind - you must be eternally grateful that you aren't downmarket.

In many cases one can look at a garment and see the construction. Fashion at the level of CH is more than a pair of scissors, some fabric and a sewing machine. Not all of it is good, but the intent is not that difficult to see. B.
DeleteThose that know fashion don't have difficulty seeing the gown for what it is. There are a lot of people that visit here that are not fashion savvy and do not understand construction and design. You can understand and appreciate the design and still not care for the gown itself. That is different than using an untrained eye and accusing CH of designing a gown for Letizia that has a shoulder that falls off when it shouldn't. Everything is deliberate and nothing is going to move unless it is supposed to.
