Princess Martha Louise of Norway announced that she has relinquished from her official royal duties. Norway's royal palace also confirmed that decision. The organizations under her patronage will be under the patronage of other members of the Royal Family. The King has decided that the Princess will keep her title.
With a press statement they made at the Royal Palace, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway thanked their daughter for her contributions. The statement is as the following: "The King and Queen wish to thank Princess Märtha Louise for the important work she has carried out in her official capacity for several decades. She has performed her duties with warmth, care and deep commitment."
When Durek Verrett and Princess Märtha Louise are married, Mr Verrett will become a part of the Royal Family – as did Erling Lorentzen, Johan Martin Ferner and Ari Behn. But in accordance with the Norwegian royal tradition, he will not have a title or represent the Royal House of Norway. Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett will attend family-related gatherings, such as birthday celebrations.
Good decision. They´ll be safe, and she´ll be free.
ReplyDeleteI like Sonja´s white dress. Simple is good. The necklace adds interest (and I like how they worked the microphone into the necklace). The tights are a bit too white for my liking.
I agree!

DeleteTheir majesties looked so sad & tired.
ReplyDeleteIndeed they do,
DeleteMabel
They weren't. They were laughing all through the interview. It was not a sad interview. We see again and again that we as readers think we see what someone thinks or feels just after looking at a photo. Can't we just stop doing that?
DeleteDid she actually have any duties?
ReplyDeleteWhat were they?
She stopped being an HRH twenty years ago.
My thoughts too!
DeleteNo she didn't. She participated in several official duties every year. Like state visit and so on. And she still had events through her patronage work. This blog wrote about them also.
DeleteTheir decision was surely difficult.

ReplyDeleteEvery time i see her on this blog/online she seems to be doing her own thing, not royal duties. So why does she have to make this announcement and make it seem like Norwegians are not welcoming to her new husband. This racial divide is almost self inflicted and not a good reputation for her country.
ReplyDeleteBut this is not about his race, but about his odd opinions - he describes himself as a shaman, preaches unscientific opinions about various diseases, promotes anti-vaxxers... Such people usually have the gift of influencing mainly unstable personalities, this can even lead to damage to health.

Agree with Stephanie.
DeleteI don't think its about his race at all. More likely about his commercial and religious activities, which are, um, unusual. A bit controversial maybe?
Deletemy point exactly, but the media suggest otherwise.

That was about time. Her future husband is a disaster for the Norwegian Royal Family. She seems so sweet and good hearted. Wish her all the best.
ReplyDeleteYes, he is a disaster for the family -- especially when you read his background. Then you fully realize. While no doubt this was an emotionally difficult decision for the King and Queen, it was the right one. Martha Louise has made her choice. Perhaps one day her eyes will open.
DeleteMême si elle est quand même assez libre, c'est une décision officialisée.
ReplyDeleteToujours aussi élégante Sonja avec sobriété ; j'aime bien quand elle porte ce collier à grosses perles qui complète souvent ses tenues !
Queen Sonja, as always, looks elegant and immaculately dressed and King Harald never lets the side down.
ReplyDeleteQueen Sonja, in 2023, will be 86 years old.
A very beautiful portrait of Princess Martha in pink.
My dear old mum always said ……..
“it is amongst the most wonderful things in life to have children but it is not always easy being a parent”.
Never knew if she was referring to me :-)) when she said that.
I wish Princess Martha, her family and the greater royal family happiness and peace for the future.
Queen Sonja has aged beautifully.
DeleteThere was a lot of press reports about this yesterday. I read many viewpoints of different reporters and news agencies, and also many direct quotes each from King Harald, from Queen Sonja, from Princess Martha and from Mr. Durek. Frankly I was sad and disappointed by some of the things that were said if they were correctly reported, but it is each of their decision to do what is best for themself.
ReplyDeleteI wish them all much peace.

Under the link below, a message in English from Martha Louise and Derek
ReplyDeletehttps://www.hola.com/realeza/casa_noruega/20221109220594/marta-luisa-de-noruega-durek-verret-toma-palabra/
@Mary T ; Thanks for the link. Interesting.
DeleteIn the video it sounds as if Princess Martha’s fiance is trying to do his “Mea culpa”, that is, it is my fault.
The link above is a partial message. The link below is the video in its entirety. I think it adds more context to the agreement that has been made between Märtha Louise and her parents. I have the feeling that she is more than happy to step aside to begin her life with Durek Verrett. If it is true, as stated above, that the king and queen were laughing throughout the interview, then I do admire them for letting her live her life. I fully understand why there would be a separation between her personal life and royal life. Mr. Verrett's beliefs are unconventional in any country and would trouble most in-laws. One can only assume the king and queen want the best for their daughter and Mr. Verrett understood he would need to publicly soften some of his statements in order to marry into the family.

What royal duties was she doing? Märtha has been living in the US for the past 15 years. seeking attention
ReplyDeleteSerious question here. Who was she seeking attention from? I don't know enough about her.

DeleteMaybe you could find an answer if you take a look at ......
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princess_M%C3%A4rtha_Louise_of_Norway
Excuse me. ML has never lived in the US. Don't know who you are talking about, but ML has lived in Norway her entire life except in her youth when she for short period lived abroad for school and between 2012-2014 when she, Ari and the kids lived in London. She have had official duties and patronage work. If we are a reader of this blog we should know that. If we don't know what we are talking about we shouldn't say anything at all.
DeleteBut if we don't know that we don't know what we're talking about what should we do then? Whoever this "we" might be...
Delete@deadeggs Thank you for suggesting the wiki page. It sounds like she became a very lost soul and tried to create some sort of purpose for herself. I find myself wondering if it had anything to do with the line of succession not favoring the first born until 1990. It certainly would have altered the kind of life she would have lead, being the heir vs. the spare. At this point, we can only hope she has found some happiness and contentment. I think it is too late for her to change her views now.
DeleteI wish them both all the best. Queen Sonja, though tired looking, looks pretty in this outfit. Love her dark strand of pearls, beautiful
ReplyDeletePss ML may regret this decision later. But she is doing it for love? css
ReplyDeleteML has kept the Princess title. Very few people outside of Norway will understand the detail that she no longer represents the royal family. Everything she and her questionable partner do will still reflect upon the royal family if she is still called a Princess. That title should have been removed.
ReplyDeleteShe has the title, but doesn't use it in any official capacity connected to her business or life with her future husband and their shenanigans. I sounds like she will use it only when she goes home for family events, if at all. She has already lost her Royal Highness style. The king has said she will remain a princess. Her alternative lifestyle does need to stay out of the royal family, and it looks like they all agree on that. Since she was born a princess, I wonder how easy it would be to remove the title?
DeleteShe needs the title to sell her and Dureks products and workshops.

DeleteI hear what you say. A very difficult decision for her parents to make.
Even when your child is 51 years old, it's difficult to do something to hurt them. Your love for them is always there, through thick and thin.
I wish the Norwegian royal family peace and happiness.
I feel sorry for this lovely king and queen. I wish them many happy returns!
ReplyDeleteIt's so strange when we people say we are Christians. That we believe in God, Jesus and his teaching, but are not able to live up to his teaching or what Jesus stood for. And isn't it funny that ML are criticized for talking about angels because who do she thinks she is the crazy one, but we belive that an angel came to Maria and told her she was pregnant with God. So the moral is we belive in angels when we are in church or read the bibel, but people who talkes about angels are crazy...go figure.
