    2. Well, our dogs are family, too. It is not that unusual, and certainly needs to be taken with a little twinkle in the eye and some humour. I'm sure they wanted to make the announcement more on the light, humorous side.

    3. Yes Lina, our pets ARE our family! This is exactly why I love this couple. Never a hint of scandal or gossip - true animal lovers. ;-)

    4. Not uncommon at all here in North America and many, many parts of the world for people to consider their pets as family/children. Of course it's not taken to the extremes as one might do for a human child but there's almost as much love and affection, care and concern for the pet as one might have for a human child. Very common in families who may not have human children for many years, or where there is only one human child, and the pet provides social companionship.

    5. Lina, you must not be a dog lover. My pets are part of the family. Many families are like that.

    7. @Lina and pauline Thank you for expressing your opinions. Excuse the rest of us for not agreeing with you. Pets certainly are members of the family, with personalities of their own. Are you suggesting that the announcement that they are expecting a baby has to be done in some particular way? When people have so much love for a pet, can you imagine how much love they will have for a child? I am thrilled for them and for Stephanie! Good for them for making the announcement special to them.

    8. Well, Lina, that certainly was a slightly extreme reaction to their very sweet announcement... :-) When I was a little child, I loved the dog of my aunt (who didn't have children of her own at the time) and often thought of the dog as a cousin. I wish that you, too, will once have the possibility to get to know a dog or a cat or some other animal more closely. They all have their individual personalities, just as us human apes, and it's a really special experience to be able to form a close bond with a member of another species.

    1. Agree it can be very confusing especially for a child when they are told this is your brother, then when the really brother is born, they were excited to have another cat. Rejected the baby

  17. Każdy ma prawo do własnej opinii. Do wyrażania siebie, do myślenia inaczej. Do napisania tego w kulturalny sposób. Nie widzę niczego złego w słowach Liny czy pauline. One też lubią zwierzęta tylko nie uczlowieczają ich. Dla nich dziecko to dziecko, a pies to pies. To logiczne. Od razu sam hejt.
A ja pytam grzecznie po co?

  18. Anonymous @ 17:21, you mustn’t have pets,
or you are taking everything literally, no, I am sure that they won’t tell their child that their dog is its brother, I think that your assumption is beyond ridiculous. And yes pets are part of family, and they are pretty much stating that when the little one arrives the dog will continue to be in their lives and they aren’t going to dump him, just because another human has arrived.

My first reaction to some of the more than ludicrous comments above was just laughing.
Of course, the author has no clue about what it means to have pets and never had one herself.
A human is a human , a pet is a pet but there can be such strong bonds between them hard to Imagine for whom has never experienced them.
My son strongly wanted a husky dog and he got to have one, a female husky.
    We already had a cat.
The two pets were at war at the very beginning but they gradually managed to find a compromise and now they love each other.
The female husky has a very strong maternal instinct, which is quite common for her species and it always shows.
She tends to hug everyone and give love.
Every time I get home after days out for work, she embraces me and tends to be overprotective.
She seems to know by instinct how tired I am and keeps others away from me to let me have some rest.
She is such a darling and sometimes even stands out of my bedroom door to prevent anyone from disturbing me!
This having said, I know by experience how dogs and cats can be precious members of a family and I guess that the cute dog in this pic will make a loving and protective companion for this couple's newborn.
    My congratulations to them!!
They chose such a nice and humourous way to make their announcement!

Although it may sound like a truism, let me say that a lot of humans should learn love and respect from pets.

    Thank you very much, Anonymous.
It much depends on how a pet is treated, I mean how violent pet owners may be sometimes.
I have never seen my husky even trying to attack anybody, quite the opposite.
Pets must be taught good manners just like humans .

  22. How wonderful answer, P. the original. And to anonymous: dog attacks are horrible, but did you ever hear how horrible can be attacks and murders of humans vs humans? And even from the same family!
