  1. I don't understand the outfit. The protocol says 'all black for ladies, unless you have the privilège du blanc', which Rania can't have. At other occasions, the ladies wore long dresses at official visits to the pope.

    1. I thought that too.
      It´s a beautiful out though.

    2. A floor-length dress is no longer required. Several wives of Muslim Leaders that visited the Holy See did wear a white head scarf plus black (or even some other colours) dress. The mega-strict dresscodes of bygone days have been softened up now. "Privilège du blanc" only applies to a handful of women currently, them mainly being catholic wives of catholic monarchs.

    4. Pope Francis has relaxed many former rules, including the protocols of dress. The Queen, as she will always be known to me, met with Pope Francis at the Vatican wearing a lavender coat and hat. When Charles and Camilla met Pope Francis, Camilla wore a cream color outfit. I did not like that at all, feeling it was pushing too close into privilège du blanc territory. One correction to Anon 14:24, privilège du blanc applies to *only* Catholic monarchs and their wives, not mainly. Queen Maxima is Catholic, but is not afforded privilège du blanc because WA belongs to the Protestant Church in the Netherlands. As a Catholic, I would probably stick to black if I was ever given such a privilege, but it is not mandatory now.

    5. If the protocol has been lifted or relaxed, then that's good news.
Is there or was there ever a protocol for men?

    6. Anon 19:46 - that's why I said "catholic wives of catholic monarchs". And that clearly excludes Queen Maxima.

  2. The whole look is perfect but it is the veil that makes it, so delicate and elegant.

  6. A very nice dress, but I feel she should have checked with the Ambassador, he could have told her all black. She is Queen of Jordan a long time, so she knows protocol. css
