  1. It's just so sad that most royals now dress down when visiting non-monarchy countries. No tiara. Otherwise, they look fabulous, of course.

    1. I'd rather make public onlookers 'sad' by my lack of excessive bling than insult my non-monarch hosts by wearing ostentatious jewellery that is not part of their ceremonial dress code. Simple elegance is rarely 'dressing down'.

    3. I don't think anyone in the German government - in their function as a host to this state visit - would be insulted by a foreign queen wearing a tiara. It was done on state visits to Germany before. Lots of bling then.

  2. I love the first pictures. She is a vision. So beautiful and elegant in this regal red gown. But in the 5th picture I am very sorry to say it does not look good. Too tight and not so regal anymore.

  7. So happy to be back in state/royal visit season again! Both couples look great and really polished in their formal outfits. The men are very handsome in classic tuxes and the women look fantastic. The red Stella McCartney is one of the best ever on QL and she wears it well again at this event. And once again, she looks better than the model!

  9. I'm not a big fan of this cape look.
That being said....the fit of QL's gown is great.
I also think the First Lady's gown is lovely.
Neither lady is over done and they both look elegant.

  10. Wow!!! QLet looks stunning here--not sure she has worn anything by Stella McCartney before or at least anything formal before. The German First Lady also looks wonderful. Both ladies are wearing beautiful gowns.

  11. My goodness - if I were Letizia, I would wear red each and every day - she looks absolutely stunning! For my personal taste, the cape could be symmetrical, but that's nitpicking, really. Ms Büdenbender looks also very lovely and kudos to the lady in the silvery-grey dress shaking Felipe's hand, from what is visible, the dress is super pretty!

    1. I think that's Franca Lehfeldt, married to christian lindner, the German finance minister.

  12. The Spanish Queen is the most beautiful and charming lady of the evening. The lady in the black dress should have opted for earrings too and the lady in the beige dress didn't put her hair up showing that she doesn't know about occasions.

    1. I agree, an elegant updo would have been much more appropriate for this kind of occasion for the woman in that lovely grey (nude?) gown with lace.
That lady’s name is Franca Lehfeld, the wife of the german minister of finance. A very beautiful woman with an accomplished career of her own in political journalism. Though she has been educated at expensive private Universities, her sartorial choices and overall appearances are often somewhat questionable. Showing off your cleavage and tight outfits is not what elegance is all about.
The queens outfit is stunning as usual and her posture, hair and makeup oh so perfect. But I also agree with another post, it’s quite figure hugging and I wonder how she managed to have dinner in it. Oh how I would have loved to see some tiara sparkle bling bling with that red gown.
The First Lady ist the perfect hostess and manages to let her guests shine while looking very lovely herself at the same time.

  13. This gown looks wonderful, it has some interesting features, the back split, the cape effect and one shoulder uncovered. The color is sublime, suits the Queen so well. Her up do looks fabulous. Her diamond and ruby earrings and bracelet are stunning, love these pieces. I saw a close up of her face and her makeup was perfect, soft and natural, no red lipstick, a nude color which looked refined. An outstanding appearance IMO.

  14. The two couples look stunning. This Stella McCartney fits perfectly, with just a bit of flair with the added cape. It's great to see it again. Lovely updo.
If she read these things, that blue gown with the cape from 2018 at the Teatro Real also deserves another outing.

  17. Red is definitely Queen Letizia's signature colour. I wonder how many ravishing red dresses does she own?

  20. Wow! Stunning! Both first ladies look fabulous. Just perfect balance between elegant dresses and jewellery. Earrings would have been an overkill on Mrs Budenbender.
