Before the freestyle competition in dressage at ECCO FEI World Championships in Herning, Princess Benedikte presented the Lis Hartel's Memorial Award to her daughter, olympic medalist, horse rider, and trainer Princess Nathalie. Crown Princess Mary and Princess Alexandra were among the spectators during the competition.
Lis Hartel's Memorial Award is given each year to a person who has made an extraordinary contribution to the sport of dressage. Princess Nathalie has been the coach of the Danish national dressage team, and before that, she represented Denmark at seven European Championships, three World Championships and the Olympic Games in Beijing and London, where the Princess won bronze medal in team dressage competition in 2008.
ZIMMERMANN Edie floral print linen maxi skirt
I like princess Benedikte's linen dress. It is so elegant, probably made special for her. One can see this is not a dress that you find not even in the better confection brands. Unfortunately her tights are a bit too thick for the summer, unless she has to wear special tights to support her legs. CP Mary is wearing one of her summer skirts. She is looking very good with that white shirt tucked in the skirt. Beautiful and sustainable. Princess Nathalie who is receiving the award is dressed simply. I don't know which person is Princess Alexandra, perhaps on the right of CP Mary?
ReplyDeleteYes, princess Alexandra is to the rigth of Cp Mary and her husband Count Michael beside her to the right. May I add that Lis Hartel, who gave this prize name, was a truly inspirational woman, one of the first women to compete against men. She contracted polio, but trained to win Olympic silver after that and her silver medal in 1952 for Individual Dressage was the first by any woman in any individual sport when in direct competition with men at the Olympics.
DeleteYes, Princess Alexandra is on the right of CP Mary and that's her husband next to her.
DeleteYes--PAlexandra is next to CP Mary. I might point out that PB is an older lady (78yrs old) who might need to wear what we in the States call support hose which provide support to one's legs if they need that. My mother began wearing such panty hose in her late 60s do to vein issues. These types of panty hose are less sheer due to extra lycra in them. Perhaps PB needs to wear these for comfort or a medical situation.

The Pss must have been so proud to hand her daughter Pss Nathalie this Award. She Nathalie seem very happy, she works very hard. Congrats to her.css
ReplyDeletePss Bene looks great, this bright orange color suits her. Love her dress, lovely style she wears these designs well. The pearl necklace is beautiful, those pearls are enormous. CP Mary looks splendid in her casual gear, her skirt is so pretty, very feminine.
ReplyDeletePB looks elegant as always! I am sure she was thrilled to present her daughter with the award.P Nathalie looks quite nice in her simple shirt and top. Love the skirt CP Mary is wearing! How wonderful P Alexandra (lady next to Mary in the plain pinkish skirt) could join in honoring her sister--and she is looking great too.

And Princess Benedikte steals the show with her elegance.
ReplyDeleteDear Janet, Your stocking information is very interesting. What a pity Anonymous did not sign. Actually, no stockings, even in summer, used to be considered very un-ladylike and ELEGANT women wore ultra-sheer nylons in very hot weather.

We lived in a tropical climate and no matter what the temperature was, my mother would never go into town without wearing stockings.
DeleteShe'd say "I don't want people looking down their nose at me".
But this is going back a good 80-odd years ago.
deadeggs 12.52, that is a wonderful comment, its priceless, thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe expression “looking down your nose” is a well known English expression explained as follows ……
Delete“If you say that someone looks down their nose at something or someone, you mean that they believe they are superior to that person or thing and treat them with disrespect. Or see them as lower class”.
So, in spite of the high tropical temperatures and to avoid being seen as inferior or lower class, my mother wore stockings when she went to town.
And they were stockings with a garter belt, not pantyhose
deadeggs, my grandmother (86 years old) also wears stockings during all seasons, including summer, when she leaves the house.
DeleteAnd Princess Benedikte as a Princess of her generation was definitely raised to wear stockings always! ;)
From time to time, there are comments about Princess Mary not wearing stockings when she is dress up to the nines.
DeleteFrom most photos of Princess Mary, I can never make out if she is wearing stockings or not.
