The Earl and Countess of Wessex are currently making a three-day visit to Gibraltar from June 7 to 9 on behalf of Queen Elizabeth to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The visit will especially focus on improving opportunities for young people and education. Upon their arrival in Gibraltar, the Earl and Countess were welcomed by the Governor of Gibraltar, Vice Admiral Sir David Steel, and the Chief Minister of Gibraltar.
On the first day of their visit, the Earl and Countess visited the Nautilus Project to see and receive more information on how volunteers and The Duke of Edinburgh's Award participants are working to protect Gibraltar’s varied marine life. The Earl is Chairman of Trustees of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Foundation, which has being running the scheme in Gibraltar for over 50 years, with more than 200 young people taking part every year.
Looking perfect! The dress is beautifull! Hard working couple!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice dress but it is too small for her figure.

Beautiful dress
ReplyDeleteSophie looks so fresh and pretty in this dress!! Well done!!
ReplyDeleteI love this style on Sophie. The cut and colour is very flattering. Lets hope she's decided to give the long all engulfing skirts & dresses a miss !
ReplyDeleteA beautiful dress, which seems to be too tight.
ReplyDeleteThis dress is so much better on Countess Sophie. I love the skirt it looks like the leaves of a daisy. Very special. The length is perfect as is the color. Well done Sophie.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful Valentino dress with a petal skirt and it suits Sophie to a "T". Her hair and accessories are good too. She has really upped her wardrobe pedigree since having a higher profile role over the past couple of years, and especially more recently.

Wow ! the countess of Wessex in her best dress ever. Colour, model ( less is more), knee length and this special pleads: how very elegant and youthful. Countess y're on the right track now. No long dresses with awful flowerprints anymore.
ReplyDeleteSuper pretty dress. The colour is fresh and light, the material seemingly wonderful combining the smoothness of silk with the heavier weight of the wool necessary for the skirt. It looks very comfortable as well. The skirt makes me think of flower petals with a beautiful scalloped hem. The otherwise simple design makes this delicate feature stand out. Only little remark I have is about the pleated panels in the skirt. They start at the waist and open up at about the hips. I think the skirt would flow nicer if they weren`t fixed (sewn together) quite that far down, especially at the front. It´s a matter of 5cm or so, but the tightness around the hips causes the fabric to pull in and unnecessarily create a belly which could easily be avoided. The dress a bit snug on Sophie anyway, so maybe a size up would also be better. It sits much loser on the model and looks better.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand what you people always have to make comments on the fact that someone dress is too tight or too this or that. Are you a specialist in haute couture ? The dress looks good on her. If you sit down in a car or a plane automatically you have wrinkles. The other lady on the picture in the pink dress has a belly too when her skirt flies away because of he wind. Normal women who had children all have a little belly. You and others on this blog make it sound that it is something to be ashamed of. Most men do not like women who are as flat as a piece of wood.
DeleteMost men do not like women....? Also women like women...as a woman should do what a man wants...
Delete@Anony 14:55 , get real! We are here to talk about fashion and what we like or not we comment about it .
DeleteThe dress is much too tight and is not true that "normal women who had children all have a little belly" In that case Catherine must be not normal according to you she had 3 children and she doesn't have any belly or Queen of Spain and million of other women.

@Anon 14:55 Maybe you forgot where you are. This is a fashion blog, where fashion is discussed. If clothing is too tight, that is fair to mention. When clothes are too tight, they put emphasis on areas of the body that would not be noticed if their clothes simply glided over them. Sophie's dress is not haute couture, so I do not understand why you would even ask if Vanessa is an expert. That is not relevant. If you wanted to go on about imaginary wrinkles, that is your prerogative, but your own separate comment would have been better. This, and the rest of your comment is not related to Vanessa's comment. You have singlehandedly managed to draw more attention to Sophie's tummy than her too-tight dress. Most people are so happy that she has finally gotten her style game correct that they overlooked the fit issue. You decided to read between the lines and make up your own narrative. Lastly, I agree with Anon 17:18. Don't get started on what men like, what women like, what cats and dogs like, etc. What nobody likes is a person telling them is what "most men" want a woman to look like.
Delete@Ava. I knew you where going to take Catherine and Letizia as an example. Not every woman for different reasons can do work outs every day to stay thin . There are of course always women who can have children and a few days after giving birth they are as thin as if nothing happened. But these are exceptions. And as you say yourself we are here to talk about fashion well lets talk about fashion and not talk about "the fabric to pull in and unnecessarily creates a belly". Come on whether you have a belly or you don't. It is not the fabric that creates one. The size she is wearing is correct. Look at the shoulders. Anyway I find her a lot better in this kind of dress than in those long shapeless flower dresses she sometimes wear. And if we can see her belly a little, well so be it. Besides it was my answer to Vanessa but you reacted as if I had addressed my comment to you.
DeletePerhaps you should have said Vanessa rather than "you people". Fit and the effect it has on a final look is perfectly acceptable to discuss - if you think the fit is fine so be it.

DeleteDo you really think Sophie wore this dress all the time on the plane?
It was not a long- haul flight, but I am pretty sure she changed into this dress short before her arrival in Gibraltar.
It is neither a matter of being a haute couture specialist nor of wrinkles.
There is a simple issue of bad fitting.
If Sophie had gone a size up, the dress would have had more fluidity in the shoulders and hips areas.
What do the tummy, having chdren and men's approval have to do with a snug dress not sitting properly on her?
Sophie looks lovely regardless btw.
@Anon 20:34 You are acting as though women are the same size on the top and bottom: "The size she is wearing is correct. Look at the shoulders." That is not the way bodies are or sizing works. When shopping, you fit the largest part of your body, in Sophie's case, her lower half, and have the rest tailored to fit. You don't fit the smallest part of your body and stuff the rest of your body in the garment with the attitude of "And if we can see her belly a little, well so be it." She has access to a seamstress, if she chooses to take advantage. This is a poor decision she is making.
DeletePetite amélioration dans le choix de ses robes ; ce modèle à la longueur idéale me fait penser à une corolle de fleurs aérienne ; très élégante !
ReplyDeleteWonderfull dress in a colour that suits her sweet face and blond hair very good.
ReplyDeletePrince Edward, as always in a very good suit!
Mabel
Great dress worn by the CoW, but I agree with others that most probably a different size would result in an improved fit. Shoes and handbag combine well and together with the updo cause a well accessorized overall look.

It's a simple matter of letting out sems, wearing a larger size, moving button to allow for just a bit for space so you don't accent your slight bulges. I do it all the time and pay a seamstress for this service. I am quite sure the Countess can afford this same type of service. I feel better about myself when I wear proper fitting clothing. Nothing insulting about the above remarks -- just a fact of life. Some of us don't have slim, willowly figures, like the lovely Queen Letizia and others.
ReplyDeleteLovely dress which looks perfect in this situation. It's a bit tight round the middle but don't think she could go up a size as the top of the dress would then be too loose. Main plus point is that it's a perfect length after all the long dresses we've seen her in lately. Love this hard working, unassuming couple.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely dress and Sophie looks great. I love the design and color. Perfect length. Her bag and shoes look fabulous. The addition of the necklace is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteNice dress, not my style, but Css Sophie looks good wearing it.
ReplyDeleteReally lovely--and the perfect length! The Countess looks marvelous.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Pretty simple elegant love the colour &, style Mary
ReplyDeleteIt’s a stunning dress, but unfortunately I agree that it’s too small for C. Sophie. It should fit more fluidly through the waist and hip area. A size up would have allowed a tailor to adjust the shoulder area for a perfect fit. (V.M.)
ReplyDeletePersonally I think Sophie looks lovely, the dress is very pretty. Sophie is not model thin, unlike Kate she has body fat. Sophie is a 57 year old woman and her figure reflects this. She looks like a real woman.
ReplyDelete(It's Me)
Sophie looks really nice in the dress. I disagree that it needs to be sized up. She is a mature woman, celebrate the fact she is not tall, stick thin, and wears what she feels good in. I like the petals type skirt on the outfit, something different and classy, without being over the top. jj
