King Harald and Queen Sonja hosted a gala dinner at the Royal Palace on the occasion of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 18th birthday. Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Prince Sverre Magnus, Marius Borg Holby, Princess Astrid and Princess Martha Louise and her three daughters Maud, Leah and Emma attended the gala dinner.
The royal guests from Europe, King Felipe of Spain, King Willem-Alexander, Queen Maxima and Crown Princess Amalia of The Netherlands, Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, Crown Princess Victoria, Prince Daniel, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar of Sweden, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume and Hereditary Grand Duchess Stephanie of Luxembourg attended Princess Ingrid Alexandra's 18th birthday gala dinner.
Wow!! It's back!! The big dinners are back and I'm so glad!! PI is beautiful and sweet looking and WOW look at Princess Elizabeth!! so pretty!! Loving this so much!! Oh and I LOVE the dress of Princess Victoria!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful celebration! They are all beautifully dressed. A terrific occasion for the younger royals to catch up. Lovely to see!
ReplyDeleteEveryone looked their best, too bad the conman/shaman/voodoo were invited. I am gonna pretend I didn't see that guy.
DeletePrincess Ingrid’s dress Is not suitable for a Queen in waiting, I wish She had worn the dress in the official portrait or something similar.
ReplyDeleteBest dressed is Queen Maxima (who would have thought) and followed by Victoria of Sweden
Miss W
Why on earth not?! - Ana María
DeleteBest dressed was Maxima ? Not in my view.
DeleteAnother gown of her mother - this is from 2005. The colour suits her very well and she looks - if possible - even better than yesterday. I also like Mary's gown very much.
ReplyDeletei agree that the colour of the old dress after MM suits the princess very well, but IMO the white dress was far more beautiful on her. Hope to se her again in that dress and then with a tiara. She is such a shining beauty!
DeleteBeautiful royal gathering.
ReplyDeleteThey all look stunning in their orders and tiaras. And wonderful to see the next generation of heirs included in this celebration.
I like Ingrid Alexandra´s gown. Beautiful saturated colour and interesting details without looking busy. The straps could be a bit more substantial (wider), but this is a great look and will be remembered. She wears her tiara beautifully.
Sonja´s dress is very yellow. But I like the style. Looks great in motion.
Mette-Marit´s pink gown is very pretty, and I like to see her in short sleeves and a not-so-high neckline.
Victoria´s my favourite of them all. Dreamy gown that works fantastically with the red Norwegian sash. Cute little purse as well.
Mary - not a bad dress but it´s not really white-tie material. The sash cuts through the embellishment at the waist, and I don´t like the beige purse with it either.
Disappointed by the Belgian ladies. Neither dress does them any favours. But it´s great to see Elisabeth in a tiara.
I think Amalia looks great in her dress. It´s a very dramatic dress for a teenager, but the sweet colour brings it down a notch, and she wears it really well. Lovely tiara as well.
Maxima - wonderful.
What a feast for the eye. Too bad that Leonor from Spain didn´t join in with the heirs, she would have fitted right in with this generation of future queens. Estelle and Charles were also there.
It would also have been nice to have had Prince Christian of Denmark present since two generations seem to be represented. He is one of the few future Nordic Kings after his father. T
Deletehere are some sweet group photos online of Ingrid with Amalia, Estelle and little Charles.
- Anon 9:13
@ anon 9:13 Yes on the list of missing ones, of course Pr Christian from DK.
Deletewonderful gala event in Norway. as you I missed princess Leonor from Spain. and Prince Christian from Denmark
DeleteMissing some pictures....off Estelle, she is definitly the 'winner' of tonight! Off course with Ingrid, she's a lovely young lady. Martha Louise looks very happy! Elisabeth: wonderfull! Victoria: great dress! Amalia..... no co-ordination of coulors with Maxima's dress and don't like the hair in the face. All ladies have an updo, except you. Overall: a very festive event!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteWhy does Amalia need to coordinate with Maxima? She is not a child who needs follow a colour pallet. She is a young women who has her own identity. Also her hair is fine, its not in her face. Remember this is her first white tie and tiara event, she is not a seasoned professional yet!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see all these future Queens!
ReplyDeletei love the picture of the three future queens with their tiaras. would be nice with a closer photo of Estelle and especially of cute little prins charles!
DeleteWow! Some highs and some lows. The most beautiful dress was the one of CP Victoria, by far, followed by the elegant Queen Maxima. Of course, the young princesses were all beautiful in their own styles.
ReplyDeleteThe worst dresses, I my opinion, were Märtha Louises and Sonjas (who’s dress made me think of a Disney princess outfit..).
AA
Princess Martha Louise looked splendid in her mother's gown! Worst dressed were Mary and Marie-Chantal, what on earth were they thinking? The younger generation of Princesses all looked so happy and beautiful in tiaras!
DeleteLeuo
I like the gown of Princess Martha. The blue colour suits her very well! She looks very happy with her fiance. Nice to se her girls joining in. They are very pretty, just like their mother.
DeleteFinally a Tiara event again. These young Pss's really knock it out of the ballpark. Very beautiful young ladies, if this is what the future looks like we are in a good place.Loved Pss Ingeborg's Tiara,Pss Elisabeth's look like Pss Mrgareth of the UK, very very lovely, also the Holland Tiara is a win win.It seems Pss I A wore her mother's gowns, I think they looked better on her then on MM. Pss Elisabeth's gown was very nice, I just did not like the top the skirt part was great. I think the best dressed of the young heir's was the Pss of Orange. Pss Estelle looked so lovely and happy and so did her brother. The Picture of the 5 heirs looks splendid, little Prince Charles of Luxembourg sat there so brave, sadly some of them were missing. Maybe in the future will see them all together. The Europaen Monarchies are in good future hands.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking forward to this all day! What a stunning event. All of the future queens looked beautiful in their gowns and tiaras, including Princess Estelle. But, it was Princess Ingrid Alexandra's night to shine and shine she did! I loved her dress and her tiara. It is special that she is wearing a gown from her mother's wardrobe. The Norwegian family was overjoyed. CP Mette-Marit's mother is very beautiful, and her older son is quite handsome, as is Prince Magnus. Little Prince Charles was adorable, as always, as was Prince Oscar. I enjoyed all the comments above, and I can't add anything that hasn't already been said. Thank you all. (Debra)
ReplyDeleteI agree that it was Ingrid Alexandra's night to shine !! She did so particularly through her lovely style and personality. However I don't think her gown had the right color for this occasion. The winner is indeed Estelle for me ! And regarding the mothers, Victoria was stunning indeed.
DeleteBut I don't understand about the participants' list !! Missing is certainly Leonor from Spain (her father is not the right replacement in my view), exams at this time of the year ??. And if we had (very) little Charles (by the way his mother looked lovely), why not George from UK ?? Or rather a tradition that the British rarely show up on such occasions. I thought Albert & Charlene were to attend with children or only one, maybe wrong information.
My conclusion none in this select group of three over 18y had really an adequate dress but quite appropriate tiaras.
Felipe is Ingrids godfather so he is the correct person to be there! I didn’t like Elizabeths dress at all. I also really hate the middle parting hairstyle. Maybe its easier when you wear a tiara? Km
Delete@MaryT. I don't know when they have exams in the U.K. (Princess Leonor) but the month of June is THE month almost all the schools have exams in the rest of Europe (Prince Christian) even at universities where the exams continue partly in July.
DeleteMary all the royals and ex royals attending are close friends of the NRF. The brits, other houses, Christian and Lenore was invited. They obviously had other reasons to not attend like school and other engagements like we saw Charlene and Albert was on. By the way they are coming to Norway on Wednesday, and is having lunch with the NRF. As we saw Philipe didn't attend either. Neither the royals from Lichtenstein. As other says Felipe is not a stand in. Hi is a close friend and Ingrids godfather.
Delete@Anon. 19/6/22 10:40. If by Phillipe you mean King Philiipe of Belgium, he was not there because as the head of the Belgian Army, he was in Rumania to visit the Belgian soldiers who are stationed there for the moment. He had a valid reason not to be at the birthday party.
DeleteThe photo of Estelle and Oscar with their beaming parents walking behind them is so adorable.
ReplyDeleteOn a whole everyone looks great. Queen Maxims is my favorite but I can't resist her when she's draped in jewels. She wears them so well!
I agree!
DeleteEstelle and Oscar, my heart melts! Pss Ingrid Alexandra' she looked beautiful, she is such an impressive young lady. Amalia looked fabulous, gorgeous color, the gown was perfect, it was very flattering. Stephanie looked beautiful, I love the clever addition of blue clutch to match her sash. King Felipe, looked dashing and handsome.
ReplyDeleteWow. What a feast for the eyes. Winners for me are CP Victoria, who is just stunning and Queen Maxima at her regal best. Princess Estelle is gorgeous of course. My least favourite is Princess Martha Louise’s strange dress. What a wonderful event for a wonderful young lady. How good to see an event like this again. AnnieM
ReplyDeleteAre you all serious with the size of her dress straps??? Grow up it's 2022, she looks wonderful and she's wearing a strapless bra so who cares how wide or not they are. Queens/future Queens and Princesses can wear any size straps they want. Guess you want to go back in time to a more oppressive time. It's not 1312. - Sarah
ReplyDeletePIA looks stunning and I can't get over Sverre Magnus!! PA looks beautiful in pink, P Elisabeth, I don't care for the dress but I like the color and Princess Estelle, so cute. Nice to see GD Stephanie. Too bad Christian and Leonor weren't there. - Capt. Marvel
ReplyDeleteNobody can beat Maxima when it comes to Tiara events. She looks regal. My favorite dress is CP Victoria’s. Beautiful details and I love the coordination between her and Estelle - the small flowers in blue, white and red (colors of Norwegian flag by the way) at Estelle’s waist and hair. CP Mary looks elegant as usual. However her outfit is disappointing to me for such an event as this.Very discreet, she could have added some glamour.
ReplyDeleteWhy British Royals not present? There were some rumors that they are not invited???
ReplyDeleteI agreed that British Royal Family more socially disconnected from other European royalty. But it is also true that they are the most popular royal family in the world.
DeleteIt is difficult tio believe that nobody from England were invited. They seldom attend celebrations outside britain.
DeleteYes it is a bit odd that no one from the BRF attended. King Harald is very close to Queen Elizabeth, both personally and by family connection. I'd be extremely surprised if they were not invited. William and Catherine would have been ideal to attend since they will likely be reigning monarchs at the same time when Ingrid Alexandra will be.
Delete(I also thought that the Monagasques would have attended but they seem to have been at another event.)
- Anon 9:13
British royal family, still the most popular in the world ?
DeleteI don't think they travel to event like this. I was looking at old photos from the other CP 18 year birthday and it looked like they didn't come if they weren't godparents. At least I couldn't find them on the photos. Of course I could be wrong, but I doubt very much that they wasn't invited.
DeletePS remember are talking about the british. A lot of the time they are a now show or they send Sophie and Edward. Maybe they had other engagement this day? Not that's wrong the NRF has a good friendship with S&E. Or maybe they feel they are in another class then the rest of the Royal houses? Don't know. Don't want to offend any british readers. I guess the brits can explain it better.
DeleteThey took part in the Ascot events among others.
DeleteThe BRF can't be everywhere.
7:36 you do realise the british have massive group of working royals? 15 and then we have a few who sometimes do a little work for them like Bea and Eugenie and they couldn't find one to send?
DeleteI remember when King Baudouin died. The papers were writing that the presence at his funeral of Queen Elisabeth was extraordinary because she normally didn't went to funerals of other heads of state. I think they did receive an invitation for the birthday gala, why would they not, but that the BRF is only going to very important ceremonies outside the U.K. when they cannot stay away. For events remembering World Wars I & II for example they went to France and Belgium to take part at the ceremonies and visits to the war graves.
DeleteSomeone give Guillaume and Stephanie Norwegian orders please! While you are at it, also give some to Elisabeth and Amalia. Might as well give one all the way down to Charles, who is clearly the most active royal ever...
ReplyDeleteMimi
Funny remark at the end of your comment Mimi. I think that they will all get the norwegian order in due time.
DeleteThey don't give out orders just to give. Henri didn't get his until 2011. Guess there are some kind of rule here.
DeleteTo me the best dressed are Queen Mathilde of Belgium and CP Elisabeth. They ar so elegant in their Armani dresses. The blue of QM's dress suits her ver well. The cut of this dress is impeccable. CP Elisabeth looks wonderful in this lilac dress. I like the skirt of her dress when she moves. The tiara is something special. We don't know yet where it comes from but I think it is not a new one. It could has something to do with her great-great grandmother former Queen Elisabeth, the wife of Albert I.
ReplyDeleteQueen Maxima, I like her dress better now than when she wore it in Japan.
CP Amalia : I'm afraid I don't like this dress style for her much too old. What will she wear in 10 years ? Her tiara is lovely.
CP Victoria : very beautiful and so are the children. P Estelle and P Oscar
CP Ingrid Alexandra : I prefer her white dress. This dress is too dark in this time of the year and for a 18 year old. Beautiful tiara. And her own natural beauty.
CP Mary : The dress is not bad but we are used to much more.
All the others where more or less well dressed but nothing extraordinary.
What I do love is that Princess Elisabeth's Armani gown seems to be echoing Princess Ingrid Alexandra and CP Mette-Marit's dress in terms of the tiered ruffle skirt design. Nice touch there!
ReplyDeleteI think that is just coincidence. The ruffles in CP Elisabeth's dress are totally different than in CP Mette-Marit's & CP Ingrid Alexandra's.
DeleteAu cours de cette fête merveilleuse, il est très agréable de voir ces jeunes filles futures reines superbement habillées et bijoutées ; beaucoup d'allure dans l'ensemble, je ne peux dire où va ma préférence !
ReplyDeleteAll the Norwegian ladies came in reuse. Sustainability and climate is a big thing for Ingrid. Ingrid in moms alberta Feretti dress. Leah and Maud in their mom dresses. Märtha and Emma in mom/grandmother dresses and MM in her Pucci from Victorias wedding and The Queen in her Erik Mortensen from 1997. This is fantastic and sends a great message! Fantastic to see all the royals in their best frocks and jewellery. They all looked fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThank you for identifying all the retro and borrowed gowns. What a great idea for a birthday party.
DeleteI see I got a typo. Mauds dress is Sonjas not Märthas.
DeleteSo lovely to see gowns & tiaras again. I have missed the pageantry and the bling!
ReplyDeleteSame here, I squealed so hard because I love tiaras!
DeleteCouldn't agree more. A fabulous event.
DeleteSo much fun, fashion, and bling! A perfect event for us royal watchers!
DeleteP Ingrid looked amazing in her gorg old/new tiara. She really rocks it!
P Catharina chose her mother's fabulous star tiara, just as I had hoped for.
P Elizabeth wins this bling contest for her debut of an old/new tiara. I've seen it referred to as The Brabant Festoon, and I think that is a brilliant name for a brilliant tiara!
Вера💚🦋
Victoria wears a fairytale dress: lovely.
ReplyDeleteOf the jonger generation my favorite by far is Elisabeth of Belgium: beautifull dress.
Of course Ingrid - A. Is lovely too as are the daughters ofMartha- Louise.
Maxima: Nice dress with far too much jewelry.
Mabel
Queen Maxima is looking just fabulous. she loves to use her beautiful jewelry, and she is the one that can wear them with pride.
DeleteFor the Behn sisters:
ReplyDeleteLeah Isadora has the best look.
Emma Talullah's big collar is a big no-no for me.
Maud Angelica is doing ok but the bishop sleeves and winged eyeliner really age her.
Agree that the Leah looks fantastic. Maud has always tended to dress in an individual manner and this seems quite restrained for her. Not a great fan of Emma's wide white collar either but it's okay. Nice to see them participating here
Deletewould like to se some photos of the royals from Greece and Bulgaria
ReplyDeleteMarius Holby is such a handsome young man. His mother must be so proud of him, as he is an integral part of this family.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ingrid Alexandra', for your most emotional and meaningful speech.
ReplyDeleteThank you for being so wise at such a young age, thank you to all the people who taught you how wonderful Is living in a country like Norway.
Thank you for showing us all the importance of family ties and committment to freedom, democracy and inclusion.
What excellent upbringing stems from the words of this simply majestic (already) young lady and Queen to be!
👏👏👏👏
I totally agree!
ReplyDeleteThere has been some discussion about the guest list. May I explain something?
ReplyDeleteIt seems the guests include mainly relatives and goodfathers and -mothers. All the Scandinavian royals are related which explains most. There are members of the former Greek royal house - related through Danish-born queen Anne-Marie. Elisabeth of Belgium, Guillaume and Charles of Luxembourg are great(-great-)grandchildren of princess Ingeborg (tiara!) just like Ingrid Alexandra. A longer link of relatives is to the Netherlands - a Swedish princess became a queen in the 19th century (I don't remember her name). King Feliipe of Spain is IA's godfather. Princess Leonor is not yet "in tiara age". There were also members of the former royal house of Bulgaria. The house is one of the branches of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha like prince Albert of UK. Relatives to almost all European royal houses.
As for the British: queen Maud of Norway (Harald's grandmother) was the daughter of king Edward VII. I'm pretty sure that the British got an invitation. But, it was the Ascot Week. Probably it was considered more important, specially because the Jubilee.
Margot
7:02 all the royals and ex royals attendig are close friends of the Cp family. Has nothing do with blood lines. But agree the brits was invited. Why they didn't attend is another story considering they have a big working family to take from. Why Lenore and Christian didn't attend is probably because we are still in a school year.
DeleteMaxima, stunning! Perfection
ReplyDeleteAgree like a queen
DeleteI like Q Mathilde's blue dress
ReplyDeleteWow! Wow! Wow! What else can I say? Three royal tiara debuts!
ReplyDeleteFor the young monarchs:
Delete-Princess Ingrid Alexandra is wearing the Ingeborg's Boucheron Pearl Circle Tiara. (It must have been particularly special for King Harald to see his granddaughter wearing his grandmother’s tiara on this joyous day).
-Princess Catharina-Amalia is wearing the Dutch Star Tiara. (A sentimental piece! It was also her mother's wedding tiara).
-Princess Elisabeth is wearing a never-before-seen diamond floral tiara, it could be a new one she got during her 18th birthday celebrations and I simply call it 'Elisabeth's Tiara'.
-Princess Estelle is still too young for tiaras, but she wore a lovely headband that matches her dress (which kinda resembles the The Swedish Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara when looking from afar).
Young monarchs?
DeleteQueen Maxima nails it with the Stuart Tiara..
DeleteUnderstand that Princess Catharina-Amalia is in heels, but she is still as tall as King Felipe, do note that King Felipe stands 197cm tall. The younger generations are getting taller and taller, aren't they?
ReplyDelete@Anon 19/6/22 14.40
DeleteAs tall as king Felipe ? She has heels on and a tiara. I think you must take a closer look to the picture where she walks on his arm. Look at the shoulders of both, she is not as tall as king Felipe. She is a very tall young lady but lucky not as tall as Felipe.
brilliant intuition @14:40
