King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia held a Gala Dinner at the Royal Palace in Madrid in honour of Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his wife. Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his wife Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim are making a State Visit to Spain. During the two-day visit, Spain and Qatar are expected to sign several bilateral agreements, including on energy.

Perfection!! What an elegant siren dress, it fits her like a glove, love the silhouette, color and even the long sleeves doesn’t make it heavy at all. Lovely updo and the earrings match the style perfectly. I am on the fence about the Shekha’s dress, it looks like a priest robe, and the top looks like leather? But somehow it also has a chic vibe to it. Waiting to read the smart comments of my fellow bloggers and see if I can decide . :-)

About the Shekha's dress, well she does her best but she is not allowed to make any shadow to her husband ! Men are the boss in all circumstances over there.
DeleteI agree wholeheartedly with all Cherry's words.
Wow, this exquisite gown dropped from Heaven & landed in Letizia's closet. This is how you look when something fits perfectly & the entire look is not overdone. Aside from her earrings, this dress needs nothing except to fit properly & shine all on its own. Wow! *Regina.
ReplyDeleteYou have said it so well. It's a perfect outfit and the Queen looks simply stunning.
DeleteI think Letizia's dress is inappropriate for the meeting of Qatar's leader ;the dress is pretty enough for a met gala but not for a Queen(Tara)
ReplyDeleteClearly you are unfamiliar with the Met Gala which always has a theme and is known for over the top creations. Tell us something about the garment or the designer not lazy knee-jerk ',opinion.
DeleteInappropriate? Why? I think she looks perfect, like yesterday with that beautiful white dress.
DeleteI suggest you look again at Met gala dinner dresses, there is a difference.
DeleteThe dress has intricate detail;embroidery,it is not just printed fabric. The time it would take to make that gown;it is Haute Couture, now what did you see at the Met gala?(Tara)
DeleteTara, this is the most important visit to Spain this year, as the petrol , so Haute Couture is needed.
DeleteI totally agree with you Coralie .
DeleteLetizia's gown is perfect for Gala dinner, Shekha's not in my style .
ReplyDeleteAva
This is great. It's glamorous but still conservative considering her guests are from a more conservative country.
ReplyDelete...Marie
Heavens above but Queen Letizia looks amazing beyond my simple words!!! This is a stunning gown and Letizia is jaw-dropping perfection in it. Everything is perfect. I think the Sheika's gown would have been lovely had the cape part not had a top part made from what looks like leather. If only she had replaced that with chiffon or silk--how much prettier it would have looked. KFel and the Sheik look like royalty from central casting they are both so handsome in their white tie and tails.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Hermosa la Reina!!! El vestido es de un diseñador Argentino!! Hermoso diseño que lo luce espectacular!
ReplyDeleteQueen Letizia's floor length gown looks great on her.
ReplyDeleteNice to see her with an updo. her earring look also very lovely but would have loved to see the tiara.
Kaarin
The protocol with Qatar is not Tiaras, as they do not wear them
Delete@Tara, would you care to share, what’s inappropriate about this dress? Are the Emir and his “ main” wife different to any other visitors? In my view this dress is a work of art I have seen closer pictures and it’s really magnificent, also demure and with a sober color. Would love to read your thoughts
ReplyDeleteCherry
The queens gown is perfectly regal. You can tell the spanish royals have an superior tailor, their clothing always fits to a T. The lace on the shekha gown is very pretty, shows off nicely on the dark background. LK
ReplyDeleteLetizia is beyond elegant and gorgeous in that pearl colored gown. She wears it better than the model.
ReplyDeleteEasily one of her best evening looks and that is saying something!
I have the opposite impression. I think the model wears it better.
DeleteAnon 9:03 - but I'm not going to explain why because really I'm just being contrary.
DeletePerfect, absolutely stunning.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous dress on Queen Letizia. Also lovely earrings and hairstyle. I only miss seeing the tiara bc I love those tiara events :D
ReplyDelete/ Marika /
Queen Letizia : exquisite
ReplyDeleteSheikha : We cannot see what is under the short cape. It looks like it is partly in (faux ?) leather, partly in lace The style of the Middle-East fashion is not to my taste, but I know women are not allowed to wear everything because of religious and cultural customs.
Not a fan of this dress.. Love her hair though.

Letizia looks absolutely magnificent and regal in this gown.
ReplyDeletePerfection in every respect.
ReplyDeleteVery, very good look from the fabulous Queen Letizia. Elegance from head to toe.
After reading all the comments, there us always an irritating tendency to sanctify Queen Letizia, she is elegantly dressed according to Western standards but this is no reason to somewhat downgrade the gown of the sheika just because it comes from a different cultural background. This is a state occasion and I am convinced that her dress has been carefully designed to reflect tradition, about
ReplyDeletewhich we know very little. The sheika certainly deserves better treatment.
🌞Virginia
Mainly from her country as she is the "main" wife of a man Who has three wives...I won't say that is a tradition, that women can almost be seen.
DeleteAgreed Virginia, and thank you for saying so.
Delete- Anon 9:13
Now that Angie showed us the picture and told us the name of the designer : Louis Vuitton, all of the speculations around Middle East fashion is falling apart Of course the sheikha combined it with a long black dress and not with black trousers like the models of Vuitton.
DeleteElegant! Understated, but sophisticated.
ReplyDeleteQueen Letizia is beautiful beyond description in this gown. Her hair looks great and her earrings are spectacular. I suspect that the Sheikha is the epitome of high fashion in her home country. Although the "leather" part of her cape looks too heavy for spring in Spain, I think she looks very pretty.
ReplyDeleteDebra
Well again you can see that with all the money in the world you cannot buy taste. The spouse of billionair emir of qatar looked really awful upon arrival in this oversized strange white suit and now again this tasteless evening gown with leather?? but probably very expensive. Then we have QL (Spanish royals are relatively poor in comp to other royal families) in an elegant, royal, less is more fantastic gown
ReplyDeleteYou are critiquing the Sheikha's outfit based on Western tastes and ideals. You're entitled to do that of course, assuming you live in a Western part of the world, but if you went to visit her part of the world and dressed yourself in what you thought was chic and stylish by your standards, you'd probably be the laughing stock and 'joke of the day' of many women in her country. Nothing wrong with that either. My point is that there are different styles and values across the world that are beautiful in their own way. The Shakirah's outfit was likely the result of someone's hard work and careful design by local measure for her to wear it at an event like this. Just because you cannot appreciate nor understand them does not make your opinion the ruling standard to call one outfit 'fantastic' or 'tasteless' or compare royal families wealth to each other and make vulgar comments about what money can or cannot buy. Simply accepting that something is not to your liking and moving on would have been enough.

I'm in the fast minority here (and that's okay of course), but I'm not thrilled about QL's dress. To me the colour isn't the best for the queen to wear and the sleeves are too long. The queen's earrings are stunning and her hairdo's fantastic.
ReplyDeleteMCS
At least you signed your name. I have great respect for that. The most offensive comments are usually unsigned (not that yours is offensive). ~d
Delete@Virginia, I have read comments about QL “dress”, mostly favorable, but nothing that would qualify about sanctifying her persona, also the comments about the Sheikha have been about her dress, which by the way is from an occidental designer, not liking a dress that in itself is hard to like has nothing to do with with downgrading it, or with her cultural/ religious background, as an example Queen Rania comes to mind. I think you are confusing fashion opinions or you simply want to stir the pot.
ReplyDeleteCB
Por supuesto que quiere revolver la olla. Eso es lo que hace un hater. La frase : "there us always an irritating tendency to sanctify Queen Letizia" lo dice todo.
DeleteNo further questions, Mr Judge.
Dear CB, I have no desire to stir the pot, I always try to be fair. The Sheika’s designer can come from anywhere and still work according to specific requirements. To me this strange garment looks traditionally inspired.
Delete🌞Virginia
Dear Virginia, I understand that designers can come from anywhere and yet be inspired by different cultures. My point was that commenters weren’t “sanctifying “ Letizia, but simply expressing admiration about a dress that in my opinion is fabulous, not only the fit, but the delicacy of the fabric and the embroidered crystals. I personally find the Sheikha’s
ReplyDeletedress unflattering beyond words, the leather, and zipper combined with the delicate material of the cape is like biker meets lace and that has nothing to do with her culture, there are incredible designs that would have respected her traditions, this one is just not it
Regards
CB
sheikha jawaher is dressed in Chanel according to emirateswomen https://emirateswoman.com/qatars-sheikha-jawaher-stuns-royal-banquet-spains-queen-letizia/
Queen Letizia looks outstanding. The embroided gown is exquisite, it falls superbly, looks equally good on movement. What's interesting is the detail is done in such a way, it doesn't look heavy/ overdone. The color is a beautiful shade, IMO it suits the Queen beautifully. The slight train at the back is a marvellous addition. The sleeves and neckline add to the opulence. Back view is equally as effective as the front. Highlighting her perfect posture. Her up do and makeup are on point. The diamond earrings were the perfect finishing touch.
ReplyDeleteSheikha, looks well groomed and appropriately dressed.
The men look handsome in their formal wear, delightful.
Dear Angie, I am not a hater, mind you, neither am I a judge, in fact I have recently defended QL when defence was due, but I am entitled to realistic conclusions, other non-haters have also expressed similar views.
ReplyDelete🌞Virginia
Tener dinero no siempre significa acertar..
