That dress is just awful .

I like the dress in itself, but it is not for Mathilde. Instead of diminishing, it emphasizes her mumsy appearance.

Now there's an awful dress if I ever saw one. - Ellie

DeletePersonally I can only say no to this dress because of the design itself. But it fits quite well to the queen.
ReplyDeleteUsually I really like designs by DvN and very often they suit QM well. This dress, however, is not to my liking and I don't think it suits the queen. The 'short train' looks out of place and particular from aside it looks weird. With respect to the shoes, I also don't like them in combination with the dress.

Joli modèle très original mais ce n'est pas ce qui convient bien à la morphologie de Mathilde ; magnifiques escarpins ainsi que la pochette (clutch) !
ReplyDeleteYou are all wrong. This dress is not mumsy at all. It is a dress with an artistic design. The clutch, the shoes are gorgeous. She is wearing her golden earrings by Tikli jewelry and a golden bracelet by Christine Bekaert. On these pictures the jewelry cannot be seen.
ReplyDelete@ Lily T. The way you describe Queen Mathilde she should apologize for being a mother of four children. Well I think she can be proud of that. It is nothing that must be hidden.
@Anonymous 14.57. First of all, I did not say the dress was mumsy, au contraire, it is indeed an artistic design. Second, you obviously have not a clue what the word mumsy means.

I agree with praising Queen M for being a good Mum! However, the dress is just not for her. It's a statement piece with a piece of fabric that in theory (on the board) looks ok, in real life its just out of place. The shoes and bag are great, but not with this dress.
Delete@Lily T. No it is worse you said about Queen Mathilde "her mumsy appearance".
Deletejust because they sell it doesn't mean you have to buy it!

I am a great admirer of Dries van Noten.
ReplyDeleteI think you have to see this dress “ life” to get a good impression.
It is a work of art.
This said, I think too that it is not good on QM: longer sleeves would make it better, she would be less “ momsy” , what bye the way says nothing of not being allowed to have children!

I think the majority who does not like Queen Mathilde's dress designed by Dries Van Noten are from British origin (encl. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc...) Their fashion taste is much more traditional than in Europe.
ReplyDeleteContrary to some comments, I think that the dress suits perfectly to her morphology as far as we can see from the pictures. Above all I don't like the top of the dress.
ReplyDeleteDVNoten often looks very good on Q. Mathilde, but something looks off to me in today’s outfit. I think it’s the black shoes. They make quite a statement all on their own, and here they compete with the dress. I tried to imagine it with a simple pair of nude pumps, and I think that’s the answer. Then the dress will shine. ReplyDeleteI love this comment “you are all wrong”….. wow at last we never need to have opinions or discussions again as we have a resident expert to TELL us what to think. Janette
ReplyDeleteDear lord! You need to be brave to wear this
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous of QM to step out of the box! Love the dress, the shoes, the clutch and especially how happy she looks!

ReplyDeleteVery appropriate for the event. And I love how much she is invested in supporting the artistic community.
ReplyDeleteAnd here we only see her on some days of the Queen Elisabeth Cello competition. She is present at every part of the competition but we don't see pictures of that on this blog.
DeleteEven though dress fits Queen Mathilde beautifully I do not like it..at all. Now those shoes--they are gorgeous! Mathilde's hair and makeup are terrific.

Nope.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why the ladies often come out to the podiums, microphones and stands at the front of the audience with their clutches or handbags, instead of leaving them at their seats. It looks kind of akward when they interact with other people.
