  1. WONDERFUL colour on Silvia´s gown, but I´m not equally fond of the design of the gown which to me has something almost clerical about it especially with the type of order chain she´s wearing.
I like Victoria´s outfit and recognize it from a previous Nobel ceremony. The added sleeves weren´t a good idea though as they changed the overall vibe of the dress from sleek to slightly frumpy.
Sofia. Nice, though those sleeves don´t look practical for a dinner. Hair could be better.
Jenni Haukio´s dress has a lovely, rich texture. It´s a tad too long for the skirt to move well. The sash provides some needed colour - without it, I´d find the outfit too pale for her.

  2. Some great gowns here but the best by miles, in my view, is the glorious red gown worn by Princess Sofia. Just beautiful. Oh, and the tiaras merit a mention for sheer splendour as well. The high tight neckline of C Princess Victoria's dress spoils it for me. though the colour, material and style are nice. The raspberry pink worn by Queen Silvia is a great colour which suits her so well. I like the sheath style and train--undecided about the band round the shoulders. The President's wife's dress is pleasant but, like the outfit earlier, a little too overly patterned. Great pictures of this event.

    1. I agree! Love the red gown, and Sofia's pearl tiara is just wonderful. Such a treat with a tiara event! The dress worn by Queen Silvia has a beautiful colour that suits her very well, but the style is a no from me. Lots of lovely photos!

The men look extremely handsome in all their regalia. I'm a bit puzzled by the bodice of the Queen's gown. Is the train attached to the portion that wraps around her shoulders? I love the mauve color and the columnar form of the dress. CP Victoria's gown is too frilly by far around her neck and shoulders, but the color is lovely. P Sofia's gown is pretty even though it appears a bit tight across the shoulders. The First Lady's gown is the best of the lot, in my opinion. I love the neckline and the silvery trim around it and around some of the flowers. I like how it flows. The First Lady's earrings are gorgeous. Of the tiaras worn, the cut steel is my favorite of the night. I loved Sofia's necklace, earrings and pretty pearl drop brooch. The Queen's tiara and earrings are beautiful. She certainly has great tiara hair. It's such fun to again be onlookers of state dinners and see all the sparkle and glitz!

I always love seeing Jenni Haukio! She looks beautiful in her well fitting gown.
Sofia has chosen a gown in color & style that definitely suit her, but it is too tight. Must be uncomfortable to wear, let alone to sit or eat in it. Why do women do that? Just wear something that fits, it'll look much better. Her tiara looks nice this time around.
Victoria's frilly gown is more suited to Madeleine, although the color is nice. Is it the same one that she wears sleeveless? Hooray for the Finnish President for giving Victoria the White Rose order in a chain (not sash) to distinguish her as the heir to the Swedish throne. The cut-steel tiara doesn't particularly go with her fussy gown.
Definitely not a fan of the color or design of Silvia's dress - full stop.

Not loving Victoria's dress. Too frilly and frumpy. The other ladies look great.

Wow!! Princess Sofia hits it out of the park! Red is definitely her color. And a new necklace. So curious as to its origin. Nobody is saying anything yet. Maybe a gift from Carl Philip. Also love the color of the Queen’s dress. Victoria is a no for me. Too frilly and busy. Alice

Wow!!! Fabulous state dinner with jewels galore from the Swedish ladies. The First Lady looks fabulous in her gown--I am having trouble figuring out all the colors but they are all very successful together and it is beautiful. I love Queen Silvia's gown--the color and style are perfect for her. I especially like the neckline detail that seems to be the start of her train. CP Victoria is wearing a dress that I really loved before the sleeves were added--I hope they are removeable because they add a layer of frou-frou that the dress did not need at least in my opinion. I love the color and incredible pleating--I'd love to see the dress on camera as she is walking in it because I feel like it would ripple and move almost like water. I do wish she had chosen another tiara. I usually like how she styles the Steel Cut tiara but I am not a fan of it paired with this gown. For me the real belle of the ball is Princess Sofia in that gorgeous red gown! Her choice of pearl toppers to her tiara, the diamond necklace, and the pearl and diamond earrings and brooch--really beautiful. Of course, the gentlemen need a mention too--all are quite debonaire and dashing in their white tie and tails.

Victoria´s tiara choise is very symbolic; since Napoleonic era Sweden has been impartial country. The first Bernadotte king of Sweden Charles XIV John was former Marshal of Napoleon, Jean Babtiste Bernadotte. Since he was elected to king of Sweden, Sweden has been impartial and never had any war. Now both Sweden and Finland are going to NATO. Victoria´s tiara is from Napoleonic era.

There are many factors that have contributed why Sweden hasn't had wars for over 200 years. Geographic location is one of them. They fought their last war against Russia and lost Finland to Russia in 1808. Even that war never came to the region of what we think of as Sweden today. Since then, they haven't shared a border with Russia/Soviet Union, which attacked Finland in 1939, later claiming 11% of its territory. An attack that was conveniently forgotten by many as the WWII dragged on for years. Of course, one can always ask how impartial Sweden really was in WWII. It definitely benefited economically when selling iron to Germany until 1944 etc.

    2. Great comment anon.09:17.
Sweden´s (direct) involvement in wars ended when the country´s own ambitions to expand and extend their control ("stormaktstiden") come to an end.
Being (officially) impartial certainly helped with staying out of conflicts - a status that is now consciously (and in my view foolishly) overthrown.

Victoria usually rules the formal evening gown appearances but not this time. That pale blue gown makes her neck disappear. It also ages and thickens her.Just wrong. I also don't understand her tiara here.

Sofia in red and diamonds for the win!

I feel Sophia's gown is just fine. What might look tight, could be the moment the photo was snapped and nothing more. The other ladies were simply georigious from Victoria, to the president's wife to the Queen in that exquisite muted rose gown with a neckline/train that new and fresh. The men all look exceptionally handsome. Best dress was the Queen's. Then Victoria's. Lovely lovely frocks.

  12. She is a winter tone and this is too muted for her, she needs clean colours on her.
Also the cut is not good for her bust line with that sash cutting into her bust.
Princess Victoria, colour beautiful on her, design no no no.....
Princess Sophia, the colour is wonderful on her.
Jenni Haukio's dress is very elegant on her.

Don't like Victorias gown except the color is good on her. Could have worked with another top. Sofia perfect. Also like Silvias color, but not the design of the gown.

SOFIA...was my favorite among the royal ladies. The color was gorgeous, the style suited her well and she looked very elegant. Good example of less is more. Her tiara suits her and must be comfortable to wear but it would be great to see her with some other tiara.
VICTORIA...those fussy ruffles on the neckline and arms ruin this dress. It looks like her dress swallowed her, disguised her neck and squeezed her waist. Don't think her hairstyle and tiara were good choice with this neckline either.
SILVIA...this dress clearly needs better bra to work. I don't like how her boobs hang bellow that cape thing. I like the idea of this dress but I think that the cape thing should have covered her chest and then the overall look would have been more elegant. Interesting to see again The King Edward VII Ruby Tiara as she very rarely wears it.

Queen Sylvia : beautiful color for her. The design however could have been good without that weird wrap around her shoulders.
CP Victoria : The only things about that gown I like are the pleated skirt and the color. The neckline is too high, the portion of fabric at the waist area is too big, the cap sleeves make her shoulders too large.
Princess Sofia : not bad at all. Love the cut of this gown
First lady : is the number one for me. Nice cut, boat neck suits her very well. The fabric of the gown looks wonderful.
Tiara's and jewelry : only Princess Sofia's tiara and jewelry are to my taste.

  18. Victoria's modified dress is a no from me, I'm afraid. The queen is the big winner. Lovely color. Sophia is as beautiful as ever but, I don't know, something is missing.

All of you that weren’t in favor of Victorias dress, I cannot agree, she was absolutely stunning in her wonderful dress. And the sleeves were nice as well in my opinion.
I do agree that Queen Silvia’s dress was fantastic, however it was a little bit strange by the bust line. A better bra perhaps could have helped.

This time even Sofia looks passable, especially her eye make-up. I'm not a fan of her dress, it looks a bit like the dress style in the wicked witch's storybooks. But this time, for once, the girl can keep up. Frieda

I am getting the impression that Princess Sofia receives always negative criticism even if she is dressed lovely and looks beautiful. She is a beautiful woman and always trying to do her best on any occasion. It looks like she is part of that group of princesses and queens who cannot do any good in the eyes of some groups of people.

The Queen' s and Sofia' s outfits are top notch.
    Splendid colours, fabrics and fittings.
Pity, Victoria looks a bit disappointing to me.
The display of jewelry and regalia is spectacular.

  25. Sofia looks great, Victoria's dress is too fluffy and busy and makes her look older, especially around the neck. The color is nice. I don't care for the queen's dress either. Sofia shines, beautiful color on her , she looks young and vibrat!
