King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Queen Jetsun Pema, Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel and Prince Dasho Jigme Ugyen attended the ceremony held to commemorate the 400th anniversary of establishment of the Zhung Dratshang at Punakha Dzong. The first formal monastic community in Bhutan was established by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel at Chari Monastery in Thimphu, which was completed in 1622.
The establishment of the Zhung Dratshang is of historic significance as it marks the first steps in unifying Bhutan as a nation-state in the 17th century. According to the Constitution of Bhutan, the Zhung Dratshang, or the Central Monk Body is an autonomous institution, financed by an annual grant from the Royal Government.
Love them!
ReplyDeleteThese vibrant colors make me happy. The Bhutanese royal family are elegantly, joyfully clad; Queen Jetsun Pema is, as always, stunning.

Totally agree, Debra!
DeleteDes photos dont les couleurs illuminent merveilleusement ma journée devenue bien terne après une période très estivale ; la reine est sublime et les enfants toujours aussi craquants !
