On May 3, 2022, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium hosted a reception at the Acropolis Museum as a return event. The reception was held in honour of the President of Greece Katerina Sakellaropoulou and her partner Mr Pavlos Kotsonis. The King and Queen are on a three-day state visit to Greece.
Now this is how it should be done! I love the colour but I especially like this style of dress on Mathilde. No defined areas on the dress, just a well fitted sheath that allows her tall feminine body to curve it's way down from shoulder to heels. I like her hair as well. All in all - Excellent.
ReplyDeleteThe Greek President is wearing 'pirate chic'. For her petite stature, it looks better than I'd have thought.

Very well said
DeleteBeautifully and elegantly describes how Mathilde looks. P
DeleteI agree. This is a silhouette that suits Q.M. very well. The colour and fabric are absolutely gorgeous. (V.M.)
DeleteNow, this dress is wonderful and looking perfect on her. Good fit, vibrant colour, nicely embellished without looking busy, and it suits her body type. Only negative here is that she again looks overdressed. It´s a reception, not a gala. I think it called for a cocktail dress, not an evening gown.
ReplyDeleteWhen King Philippe and Queen Mathilde are on a state visit they always offer a concert to their host. In this case there was a reception and a concert with classic music performed by Belgian musicians. The queen always wear a long evening gown. It is the custom since King Baudouin was still alive. King Albert continued this and King Phillippe continues this custom too. It has always been like that at the Belgian court, I wonder why suddenly some of the readers of this blog must write negative comments about that.
DeleteThanks for the explanation, anon. 11:58. I didn´t know about any such tradition, but even if that´s a thing at the Belgian court, I still think she looks overdressed. Everyone else is dressed business-like. Dress codes are meant to prevent someone from looking out of place. In this case, the tradition you described unfortunately resulted in the opposite.
DeleteQueen Mathilde looks amazing in that gorgeous dress! Janet
ReplyDeleteThis dress is much better than her others this trip.
ReplyDeleteI am somewhat perplexed by her seemingly being overdressed compared to the other women for all these events.
She is a lovely woman though
...Marie
Mathilde looks amazing in that color and style. Vive la Reine!
ReplyDeleteQueen Mathilde looks fabulous, very much the Queen she is. The PM has shown an absolute ignorance of both fashion and decorum throughout this visit. - Deborah
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don’t much care for the PM style, I think that accusing this woman of lack of decorum is a bit much. I also think that the lovely queen has been overdressed and over accessorized in almost every appearance, but I won’t judge her as lacking “ decorum”

Yes , Mathilde looks perfect here. Dress is beautiful in color and style. I like the neck line of the dress.
ReplyDeleteAva
Mathilde looks fantastic! She does well with a sheath. She avoids the problem of her waistline, and it leaves her with a svelte look. I would like to see her go more in this direction with her dresses. The beaded areas on the dress keep our eyes moving where the large Natan belts focus our eyes on her waist. The color is rich and very flattering. President Sakellaropoulou's outfit is something else all together. Possibly she is not accustomed to attending receptions? Honestly, it looks like something Camilla would wear. I can't say that I am a fan of it. ~d
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful gown, superb color, love the design of the fabric. Her small clutch is lovely. Hair and makeup look fabulous
ReplyDeleteYes agree, I only have reservations towards the decoration on the bottom of the sleeves.
DeleteWell said! Zed
DeleteHmm kinda overdressed
ReplyDeleteGreek President and her partner look alike, like brother and sister.
ReplyDeleteAva
Less applications on the sleeves (make it a bit 'bulk') and it would have been perfect to me. Anyhow, QM looks good in these gown: colour and model suit her very well. Hair and make-up are great.
ReplyDeleteMCS
Yes agree, applications on the sleeves that is what I meant.
DeleteBoth ladies look very nice, but dressed for two different events.
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this dress on Queen Matilde!
ReplyDeleteIndeed the best piece I have seen for a long time.
Simple, clear, flattering and feminine lines, gorgeous colour and nice discreete embellishments all over this gown make her look even more beautiful and shining.
The silver pochette is lovely.
C'est tout à fait ce modèle de robe qui convient à Mathilde tant au niveau des lignes simples que cette couleur fuchsia qui lui sied à ravir ; exquise pochette mais est t-elle dans le même style que ses chaussures ?
ReplyDeleteDear M.me Tulipe 33,
DeleteI have read on another site that Mathilde wore Dior snakeskin pumps paired with a snakeskin pochette.
I didn' t see clearly in the pics and I thought It was a silver clutch bag!

Deletecela m'a beaucoup amusé que vous me repreniez "33 ans" dans mon pseudo mais il ne faut pas se fier du tout à celui-ci car il n'a aucun rapport !
Queen Mathilde is recycling this beautiful evening gown she wore for the first time in 2017 at a state visit to India. The pink color is one of the colors that suit her very well. Someone said that the embellishment on the sleeves make the dress bulky ? I assume you refer to the 2nd photo which is taken from a different angle. Compared with the other photos you can see that the dress is not bulky at all. We don't know it exactly but we think it is a evening gown designed by Dries Van Nooten.
ReplyDeleteA bit overdressed but stunning. I don't think I've seen this gown before. It is gorgeous and so is the queen.
ReplyDeleteDebra
Dear Debra,
DeleteRead the comment before yours. There you can find complementary explanations about the dress.
Great colour for Mathilde. Pink suits her.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dress and the Queen is stunning.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen looks lovely in this gown, however, it looks as if she is overdressed compared to the other people around her. Anne
ReplyDeleteHonestly I don’t get this mini-obsession with QM being overdressed. I wasn’t crazy with the dress she arrived in but even here she wasn’t “over-dressed.” She is royalty, representing her country. At this particular event she is kind of a “hostess” since event is is at the invitation of the Belgium state. It would be much more bad-mannered if she were “underdressed.” Also throughout all the posts about her visit, almost the only other woman consistently shown and one could equally argue she is in her pirate-chic underdressed.
ReplyDeleteMathilda is a Queen and people expect queens to look special. They are supposed to be wearing clothes, jewels (and hats) that that are what most us could never aspire to. That’s why we read royal fashion blogs.
And btw I personally think Queen Mathilda is, overall, one of the most lovely Royal women. She has her personal style. She seem kind and serene and dresses appropriately.
Lizzie
I second that!!
DeleteJust to piggyback on what you said, I was taught that it is better to be overdressed than underdressed. I am surprised by so comments about this. I would argue that some of the women are underdressed, if anything. After all, the men are in suits. Mathilde looks beautiful. ~d
DeleteAnon - 22:20 Very well articulated, I agree with your points, well said.
DeleteAnybody knows the name of the fashion house where Queen Mathilde's red dress came from? Is it a Costarellos design and creation?
ReplyDeleteLooks like it could be to me.
