On April 11, 2022, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence arrived at Jacksons International Airport in Port Moresby. Accompanied by her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence, Princess Anne is on a two-day visit to Papua New Guinea on behalf of the Queen in celebration of her Platinum Jubilee. The Princess and her husband were welcomed by Prime Minister James Marape at the airport.
The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence met with the Governor General Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae and Her Excellency Lady Emeline Tufi Dadae at Government House in Port Moresby. Then, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence attended a reception with Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea James Marape and his wife Rachel Marape in Port Moresby.
Love the blue blouse underneath her jacket, brings freshness to her outfit, yet retains her classic lines and function over fashion trends of the moments. I believe she has worn this emerald green dress before, it looks lovely as always. She is quite beautiful, has aged naturally, and carries herself with dignity.
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne looks great in a beige trouser suit with a contrasting blue blouse. That green dress - no, I don't think shiny fabrics will match her type. It would be nice if she changed her hairstyle - a shorter haircut (something like Princess Benedicte from Denmark) would be more practical and more chic. Otherwise, I'm a big fan of Princess Anne - she does her job without complaining even without a PR agency. I think she most closely resembles her father, Prince Philip

And she is not always trying to be the center of attention!
DeleteA pant suit is great for Princess Anne. It is comfortable and she can wear it sporty or more dressed up if necessary. Better than the old fashion dresses she likes to favour. Isn't it sad that she must be advised to do her hair like princess Benedikte who is more than 10 years older than princess Ann. It is always better to look at women who are younger than yourself and copy their style (taking into account that their style is classic of course).
DeleteIt's great to see the Princess Royal and her husband working on behalf of the queen. I'm glad to see the growing number of royals now representing her...Zara and family, the York sisters, and others we haven't seen much from. Of course the Cambridge family and Charles and Camilla are always ready to serve.
ReplyDeletePrincess Anne has always worked on behalf of the Queen and generally performs the highest number of engagements per annum. Many of these are routine and non glamorous so do not get the same publicity as the Cambridges do, for example. The Wessexes also represent Her Majesty in an understated and low profile way.
DeleteZara is not a working royal and never has been, nor are the York Princesses, although they do have some patronages in their own right. As the Gloucesters and Kents give up their roles, in spite of Prince Charles's desire for a slimmed down royal family, I would love to see the York Princesses given a higher profile.
ReplyDeletePant suit : OK. Green dress too old. Bad hair as usual.
ReplyDeleteBad hair? She has it combed, and tucked into an updo, something she has done for years. You don't ask Queen Silvia, or Princess Beatrix, or any of the other older ladies to change the hairstyles. Even Queen Elizabeth has had the same hairstyle for years. As long as it is clean, brushed, and not a mess, who are we to question their choice of style, especially for someone in their 70's.

DeleteYou compare Princess Anne with a queen and a princess who are at least 10 years older than she is. Queen Elizabeth always has been dressed very beautiful when she was younger (according the fashion of those years) and her hair although it was always done in the same style, looked much more healthier than Princess Anne's. According to her age Queen Elizabeth is still very well dressed and her hair is beautiful like silver. When I see pictures of Princess Anne taken in the sixthees and seventees she was also dressed according the fashion of those times. I remember her wedding dress, how beautiful she was.
It was later I don't remember exactly when, she started to look more and more dressed in a style that grandmothers wore, her hairstyle became worse too and since then it remained about the same. In fact the pant suits she is wearing on this trip are the best outfits in which I've seen her in years.
You always focus on the fact that she is already 70. I am always saying she is only 70. Being 75 I realize that it is not young anymore but that is no reason we should look like someone who is 10 years older. One can find beautiful (not cheap) clothes that women of my age can wear too and make us look elegant and up-to-date. The same for the hairstyle of older women. A good hairdresser of course is needed to give advice about what style can be adopted according to our age..
The cream trouser suit is business-like and perfectly acceptable. While I suspect it may not be new, I really like the emerald green dress. Such a lovely colour. Thanks. Helen, for featuring this trip and letting us see more of Princess Anne.
ReplyDeleteWould love to see more of the pant suit. Difficult to make a comment.
ReplyDeleteThe green frock is a typical, no fuss, Princess Anne style of fashion.
It does the job and makes no fashion waves.
The Princess Royal really looks fabulous in the cream pant suit, suitable, practical and she looks great. The emerald green dress suits her, I love the strands of pearls, its hard to make out the brooch she is wearing. She is a marvellous representative to the Queen, its been wonderful to see the coverage out her of her travels.
ReplyDeletemuch better than the Cambridge tour, that's that way to do it
ReplyDeleteAgreed 100%.

Absolutely!
DeleteI don't think there was anything wrong with the Cambridge tour other than the media stirring things up and an inexperienced team not taking certain optics into consideration.
DeleteAlso different places with different history and different perceptions.
Finally, the royal family don't just say they're coming and dictate the programme - the government of the country receiving them has a say. Like the Jamaican government did when they decided the Cambridges should do the military event from the back of the same jeep that the Queen and Prince Philip used...

We don't need the media to see what was wrong with the Cambridge tour. Going to rather poor countries in a complete new wardrobe (except for 1 dress and maybe a pair of sandals) is to be ashamed of, especially for someone who has so many beautiful clothes in her closet. I also think being very thin like she is it is not possible that her older summer dresses don't fit anymore.
DeleteTalking about the climate and the planet to groups of people on the one hand and do nothing to show it is serious on the other hand is asking for comments. The people living on these isles are not stupid either.
I take the military event as an example : was it really necessary she had made a complete new outfit in white lace ? Where are all the dresses
in white lace she wore year after year at the races in Ascot and elsewhere ?
I disagree with you - where by the way do you find out your information about the tour other than from the media? Or were you there personally?
DeleteThe Ascot dresses would have been far too hot. Nice little dig about her size - she's no thinner than the Princess Royal.
Some people would take it as a compliment that someone went to the trouble to buy new outfits - it shows you think the event is of some value.
Not saying the tour was perfect but it wasn't the disaster some are making out. There were people there who enjoyed meeting them, they got to see some interesting and valuable projects and if nothing, it brought home to them the necessity of a different kind of monarchy in the future.
Like I said, if they didn't want them there the governments should have said so.

No I was not there but I have eyes and can look at the pictures of the tour for ex. on this blog.
DeleteThe Ascot dresses (in white lace) were just an example to compare with the lace dress she wore during the military tour. She has other summer dresses that are not too hot and still fit.
You seem to forget in what world we are living today : the pandemic that costs billions of lives, the war in Ukraine, the struggle for saving the planet, etc... All this influence the economy of the world, everything is already becoming much more expensive, people are loosing their jobs, etc... Who is going to pay for all this ?
And then you are surprised that common people are angry about the unnecessary spending of money by some royals and other world leaders.
Not sure where you have worked out that I have apparently been living in a cave completely unaware of what has been going on recently...
DeleteNot surprised at anything - just don't think the tour was the utter disaster certain sectors of the media are making out. People will always criticise especially when it involves anachronistic systems such as monarchy. And no, I'm not saying the criticism is always unjustified. But I do think quite a bit of the criticism of the Cambridge tour is unfair and biased.

I love the trouser suit! Very polished and business-like and that pop of blue is a lovely contrast to her suit. The green silk dress is very Anne--simple and classic. She looks wonderful in green so am glad to see her in bright pretty color. She is so engaged--the last photo shows her listening intently to the Governor General and the slight smile is wonderful bod language letting him know she appreciates him and/or what she is hearing. Its wonderful see Sir Tim accompanying the princess--I think they make a great team. I have been so impressed by him in interviews I have seen him in.
