King Harald and Queen Sonja hosted a reception at the Royal Palace for recipients of the King’s Medal of Merit

On April 5, 2022, King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway hosted a reception at the Royal Palace in Oslo for recipients of the King’s Medal of Merit. Traditionally, recipients of the King's Medal of Merit are invited to the Palace, but for the last two years, the pandemic made it impossible to hold the event. The 38 medal recipients and their companions were received by the King and Queen in the Small Banquet Hall.

The King’s Medal of Merit was founded by King Haakon VII. It is conferred as “a reward for service in the fields of art, science and industry and for outstanding public service”. The medal is of silver, but can be conferred as gold on very special occasions.

A beautiful cream dress QS's wearing. Though I always can appreciate a somewhat quirky necklace, I don't feel this one combines well with the dress (and black shoes).

I love the modern necklace on her! The Queen is 85, but she is always so youthful and vibrant.

Lovely cream coloured dress worn by QS; though I like somewhat quirky necklaces, I'm not sure about this one, as the blue seems somewhat too harsh compared to the soft colour of the dress

I thought you guys always want a "pop" of color. You got one, but it's "somewhat too harsh". ??? *Regina

@Regina: I don't know who you mean by 'you guys', but to me the blue of the necklace doesn't go well with the colour of the dress; so yes, somewhat too harsh. QS always wears beautiful necklaces and this one is no exception. I just don't like it on this dress.

  5. Queen Sonja looks lovely in the simple cream dress. The pop of bright blue provided by her necklace or scarf is wonderful. I love the bunad dresses of the first 3 medal winners--all 3 are so beautiful.

  6. Would be nice to know if there is (perhaps) a cultural significance to the necklace ?/scarf?

  7. It is quite possible that Queen Sonja’s necklace was a gift from a Norwegian
organisation or something similar and was worn out of courtesy.

      I agree, it's a possibility.
Pity we can't zoom in on the photo.
