  2. Nice initiative, let's hope that all initiatives towards returning to peace will be heard. CP Victoria is wearing a nice dress and the Queen a nice suit as always.

    1. Pourquoi vouloir comparer ?
Et puis les chrétiens envoient leurs femmes et enfants et restent combattre... pour leur pays.
Les musulmans partent et laissent en insécurité leur famille 👪

I wonder how lighting a few candles helps. *Regina

@Anon 17:32 If you are going to insist on stirring up trouble, why don't you have the courage to sign your name? This isn't a political blog. I think you made a wrong turn somewhere.

@Regina You know exactly how lighting a few candles helps. Royals are people of faith, and there are many people of faith that read this blog.
Snarky comments about a serious situation are not humorous, if that was your intent.

I have seen the previous comments you both made. You are trying to compare the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, a conflict that started before most of the people that visit this blog were even born, with the immediate emergency of a potential World War. There have been peace talks my entire life in regards to the Israeli–Palestinian conflict. Other countries have tried to broker peace treaties. I, like many people, don't think we will see peace in that region any time soon. Do not compare that to the invasion of Ukraine or the worldwide reaction. The royal's support of Ukraine will include their satorial choices, flower colors, and official visits. If you do not approve of the royal families supporting Ukraine, don't read the posts. Your comments reflect poorly on you. ~d

    4. @*Regina they are at least being positive during these trying times unlike you. They also had a prayer service which is very powerful and Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel attended a fundraising event for Ukraine as well!

Lighting a candle is a symbol of emphasizing prayers to God in churches of Christian denominations. Statistically, 78% of Ukrainians were Orthodox Christians before the current war. So the family were offering an intense prayer on behalf of Ukrainians in the religious tradition of most Ukrainians.

As for Palestinians; statistically, 98% identify themselves as Sunni Muslims, and they do not adhere to any candle lighting symbolism of Christian denominations. There would be no point in lighting Christian candles for them, as they have a different religious system.

What good does it do? I don't know if it does, but you can't fault them for trying, I think. However, posting here about fashion is definitely not going to help Ukrainians. - Ellie

Your comment is so well put and crystal clear that I can only agree with you.
You see, sometimes making comparisons between such different issues and situations stems from ignorance and probably for not having toured places and seen other cultures and religious systems " in action".
I can assure that, as you already said, royals and many of their compatriots are people of faith.
I experienced how faith is deeply rooted and felt in Norway (I visited a lot of churches there, just to give an example).
As @Ellie said, lighting candels is a symbol of emphazising prayers to God.
In Scandinavian countries,Protestant churches have different denominations but they share a common Christian ground and a deep religiuos symbolism.
Although my religion is different ,I am open and willing to know about other creeds and practices.

@Anonymous 17:32. Why don't you go and find out? If nothing else, it should keep you occupied for a while and hopefully away from this Blog.
@Regina: While candles may or may not help, a donation from you surely would. Snarky comments don't feed a child, money most definitely would. Rina

While I agree with you that people and children in particular escaping from the ongoing war need any possible material support we can give them beyond lighting candels, nobody knows whether commenters on this blog have already sent donations and given the refugees any other form of material help.

  7. What a beautiful and wonderful event for the SRF to attend. Like Victoria's dress and Silvia's suit.

  8. I know this occasion is not meant to be joyous and happy, but Queen sylvia looks so sad. With her hair limp and not styled it makes her cheeks look sunken and hollow causing her to look very tired!

    1. Dear Fitzhugh, I agree with you, I think Queen Sylvia should stop colouring her hair, like Queen Elizabeth did, which would make her look fresher and younger. Otherwise, she always looks regal and dignified without appearing stuffy.
