On March 24, 2022, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas, on the 6th day of their Caribbean tour which they make on behalf of the Queen on the occasion of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
Afterwards, the Duke and Duchess attended a private meeting with the Prime Minister of The Bahamas Philip Brave Davis and his wife Ann-Marie Davis at the Prime Minister's office in Nassau. The Duchess wore a bespoke aquamarine fitted dress by Emilia Wickstead.

Well she is adapting to long style dresses, however this dress is epic fail. the neckline does not look right and the hemline is just shapeless or too big!

No no, the dress and Duchess is epic awesome!

I agree totally and can add more misses. This (like the green dress from yesterday) has the undrbust and side darts joined into a kind of panel seam and it is downright ugly. Again the raised waistline which the duchess seems to use to hide her very long waist just makes the dress look badly fitted. you can see its not her natural waistline and the dress buckles at her real wist when she sits. I also think that these very long skirts just look ugly on her. The sleeves are also puckereing at the uper arm. Altogether not one of Emilia Wicksteds best productions. I often think that some of Emilia Wicksteds clothing looks home made.
DeleteI feel like we must be looking at different pictures. She looks very nice, and the neckline adds interest to an otherwise classic shaped dress. I say, "Well played Duchess!".
ReplyDeleteA dress that's too long, doesn't fit well, a 'neck collar' that doesn't look good and doesn't come in a colour that looks good on the DoC, so a no for me. The ponytail looks great and I like the embellishment on the elastic.

I like the color of the dress. The neckline is original and beautiful. The shape of the skirt is a miss and the dress is too long. The dresses by Emilia Wickstead are not always very good. The earrings go very well with the color of the dress. Clutch and shoes are O.K.
ReplyDeleteThe wife of the prime minister Mrs Davis is looking very elegant in her green outfit.
Like the dress , appropriate for the occasion but not appropriate for a tropical climat.
ReplyDeleteThe daytime temperature in the Bahamas at this time of the year is around 28° celsius (82° fahrenheit). I think Prince William is wearing a light weight suit.
His father always wore light weight suits when he visited hot and/or tropical countries.
The lady in green deserves a compliment, she looks very charming; except maybe for the dark shoes, a camel brown would have been nicer.
ReplyDeleteI don't care for Catherine's dress, other than the bright blue color. Perhaps if it was knee length it might have worked.
This dress just doesn't look well fitted and she doesn't look comfortable in it.
ReplyDeleteOnce again on this tour, the outfit is off.
Maybe it's time for a few new designers.

@Marie.
DeleteIf the Duchess doesn't look comfortable in the dress, maybe it's because she's dying of heat. This is a dress for the climate in England. Tight fitting sleeves and what looks like to be a heavy fabric ..... no, no, no.
I love the neckline of this dress, and the bodice fits perfectly. The earrings are interesting. I admire her for trying different styles on this trip. Some suggest she tries too hard to match her clothing to the area she is visiting. I think it's a way of showing respect to her host countries.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness for your comment, Debra, and also Anon 10 39. I was beginning to think I was all on my own in loving this outfit. The colour, a perfect match for the Bahamian flag is gorgeous and the unusual neckline lifts the dress from ordinary to special.👗 I would certainly agree that it could be an inch or two shorter but the length may have been chosen, as with the green and yellow dresses in Jamaica, because of the windy conditions at the airports. Love the earrings too 💕
DeleteI like the colour and the style of the dress but again it is tooo long, knee length would be fine. I believe the seamstress put small weights in the hem, to prevent the skirt from flying in the air. The turquoise clutch bother me a little, a nude clutch to match the nude shoes would look better in my opinion.

ReplyDeleteThe earrings are beautiful. The neckline looks odd to me and the color is too pale. Ann-Marie Davis looks good, beautiful neckless.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress but think the earrings are discordant with it. They are pretty in their own right but I think this dress begs for those diamond drops that the Queen has lent to the Duchess or just some simple diamonds. While I admire the thought behind doing a high and low look they just don't fit in my opinion. And I really wish she would stop trying to match her handbags with the color of the dress - it reminds me of dyables for prom where you would dye your shoes and bag to match your dress back in the 80s - which I did back in the day. I lovely nude clutch to match the shoes would have been better I think. Also don't like those pearls in her hair - why add those especially because they clash with the earrings. Michelle
ReplyDeleteI quite like the dress, including the neckline and the colour. The fit is good too, however, I agree that the dress is too long. I can also see nalerina´s point about the darts which unfortunately create an image of pointy breasts. And: I think the dress needs a thin belt to cover the waist seam.
ReplyDeleteReading all the negative comments I think we are spoilt by her exquisite clothing.
ReplyDeleteThis one is just an ordinary good dress.

Its so strange that a woman shows up at a public event - and our hobby is to pick apart what she's wearing - every detail! Who among us could stand up to such scrutiny?
ReplyDeleteIts fun to 'fashion watch' these events, but maybe its getting too...mean girl?
What a gorgeous color for Catherine! I love the style of the dress and that neckline is beautiful. I have 3 problems with the dress: 1) those long sleeves are a bit much for the tropics--yes, the dress is perfect for Spring but not the tropics; 2) those bust darts are awful!!! 3) I think a belt would improve the dress--and we know Catherine adds belts from time to time. I really do think this dress is wonderful for Catherine but Wickstead let her down with those darts. I also love the turqouise earrings. Also very glad Catherine chose a nude shoe--she's been quite matchy-matchy with her accessories on this trip so its refreshing to see a break there. I feel Mrs. Davis deserves a mention--how elegant she looks! Her suit and accessories are marvelous.
ReplyDeleteAnd Mrs. Davis is also wearing long sleeves.
DeleteNou, dat was de afgelopen dagen weer een modehow van de bovenste plank.
ReplyDeletePast dit nog wel in deze tijd van een veranderende wereld..... Poekie
I like most of what I see. I had seen pictures of this hours before it was posted here, and my opinions haven't changed. My first impression was positive. I loved the color on Kate right away. It is not only a sartorial nod to the Bahamian flag, but a different color for Kate, and very lovely for spring. The neckline gives the illusion of broadening her shoulders, coupled with the skirt, to give her body shape. It is always refreshing to see Kate try something new, as with this neckline, since so many of her clothes are so similar. I love it and I think it works on her. I am going to respectfully disagree with nalerina regarding the waistline. She is doing what I wish Maxima and Mathilde would do. Creating illusion with tailoring can create proportion of the body. Moving the waistline up is not noticeable (unless you are looking for it like we are) but visually removes her long waist. Maxima and Mathilde need their waistlines moved down or need to wear clothes with no visible waistline to stop putting emphasis on their short-waisted torsos. Just my thoughts. Back to Kate, I know the bodice is a problem for some. I am on the fence. I appreciate the detail and think it gives her a fuller looking bust--again, anything that gives her curves is good. I thought the smocked top of the Tory Burch dress she wore in Belize flattened her out. I do realize the panels are not giving as clean a look as darts would. The length is longer than I prefer, but as I pointed out with another dress, it may be strategic. The airports are windy, and she has had wardrobe malfunctions in the past. I think she has learned that shorter skirts in flimsy fabrics are going to make the front pages of the tabloids. As for the long sleeves, of the pictures I have seen, every lady present on the tarmac was wearing sleeves as well. Kate did not look out of place. I liked her earrings, keeping this less formal than pearl earrings would have made it. I am really loving the bisque Gianvito's. It is a nice update from nude. What I don't like is the clutch. It is too matchy-matchy. It disappears into the dress and I can't see the point in carrying it. I also do not like the pearl hair tie. It does not work with the earrings, and feels kitschy to me. I am mad for Ann-Marie Davis' suit and bag. She looks fantastic. The little girl presenting Kate with flowers could not be more precious. What a lovely memory for her. ~d
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else just adore the little girl, who is so perfectly dressed including the pearls and the white gloves??
ReplyDeleteI agree whole heartedly -AnnieM- I love what the little girlis wearing she really looks gorgeous in a slight nod to the 1950's but very modern too
DeleteYes, Annie M., I do! Such a cutie!
DeleteYes, that little girl looks so polite and adorable . The Duchess' dress is a lovely color, would have been better in a lighter weight fabric and SHORTER. Considering how tall she and towers over most other women, I would think she would opt for a 2 1/2 inch pump, rather than the stilettos she favors. She doesn't need the long dresses and high heels to elongate her body. Look back about 5 years at her photos and I think you see a better silhouette/style.
ReplyDeleteI agree about her style from about 5 or so years ago. To some function with William, she wore a black velvet coat over a black dress with dark purple low heeled shoes and she looked fantastic. I've never seen her look better. Also her posture suffers when she has to bend so low to talk to people.
DeleteThis dress is lovely, the color, style and neckline I love. Its different to her usual style and it is a refreshing change. She looks beautiful
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty dress! The color is great and the neckline is tres chic. The earrings are a great accessory to this outfit.
