On March 17, 2022, Japanese Princess Aiko (Princess Toshi) held a press conference at the Imperial Palace on the occasion her coming-of-age 20th birthday. The princess turned 20 last December. Imperial Family members usually hold a press conference when they reach the age of majority. The press conference had been postponed for 3 months to Gakushuin University's spring break in consideration for the studies of the Princess.
Pitty to see her in an oldish dress... Not of her âge and looks ugly on her. please let her be young !
ReplyDeleteLook she is beautiful ok you don't Japanese fashion she is beautiful and Kako is beautiful leave her alone please
DeleteShe still looks incredibly beautiful. Don't be rude. I think she would look really nice in a lavender or Sakura pink color.
DeleteUnknown 20:35
DeletePrincess Aiko has the same fashion style as her mother and the rest of the royal family .... time and age make no difference. The true, nothingeelse.

I do not take @Arkadia's comment as rude. It may not have translated well, but it was honest. This is not attractive on Aiko. It is oversized and the color is unflattering. It leaves this poor young lady LOOKING thick and shapeless, not that she IS thick and shapeless. I agree with @Anonymous that some color would have looked much nicer on her. A long time ago, group of old men decided that the women in this family should all wear the same clothes, whether they are 19 or 99. The many groups of old men to follow have not allowed any change to those archaic decisions. No young woman wants to be forced to live the way the royal women are forced to. When you are running out of heirs, it would make sense to try and keep the women in the family from leaving. The clothing is just one of the many ways they make it easier and more desirable for them to live the life of a commoner. @Unknown This is not Japanese fashion. It is Western fashion adopted by the Japanese decades ago and they have never updated the style. You can research the reason. ~d
DeleteWell said “Anonymous 18/03/22 02:24”. You expressed many of my same thoughts.
Delete“Unknown 17/3/22 20:35” didn’t say Aiko looks ugly. He/she said “… looks ugly *on* her.”
It is possible to dress *very* conservatively and modestly while at the same time being modern, fashionable, and properly fitted. These things are not mutually exclusive from each other. Why the persons who dictate the fashion choices for the women of the royal household does not understand this, is beyond me. Over the last couple of years Aiko has gradually started to turn into a lovely, young women. You can especially see this when she smiles; she has her mother’s enchanting smile. But when you look at these photos - and if you are not familiar with who she is - your first thought is, “Why is this girl wearing her grandmother’s clothes?” Think about this for a second; for the last couple of engagements/events for Queen Elizabeth II her dresses have been more modern and vibrant than what Aiko is wearing here. The Queen is 95 years old! This is just wrong!
Europa
@Europa You make an excellent point. The Queen's dresses have been looking more modern lately, to the point that I came close to saying that I thought she looked more modern than Camilla, which I do. The comparison between Aiko and the Queen is accurate and fair. ~d
DeleteWhat a lovely smile Aiko has!
ReplyDeleteBut: as for japanese Royals I think of Mako and Kei Komuro. I hope they are doing great.
Me too. I hope Mako and Kei are doing well.
DeleteHope they have some lovely babies coming their way soon.
This is all I found this time. It isn't very exciting, but it is something. ~d

Thank you for this information, Anonymous 02:35. I really hope he passes the exam. It seems to be rigorous, I've read that for example Michelle Obama also did not succeed at first.
DeleteHi Coralie. Many don't pass the bar the first time. The bar exam differs from state to state as well. New York is one of the more difficult states to pass the bar. He will be successful soon enough. Good luck to Kei! ~d
DeleteThe color and style of the princess's outfit is pretty, but I think it is too big for her. And her shoes look too matronly, but none of the ladies of the Japanese court wear high-heeled shoes like those worn by European royalty. Her jewelry, however, is very nice, especially the brooch.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to her, she looks relax and confident. Little to say about her attire.
ReplyDeleteIsn't she growing into a lovely young lady.
ReplyDeleteLong live the imperial Palace. Viva Japan.
Now that's a good dress and shoes combo for Camilla.
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Birthday to Princess Aiko.
You are exactly right. ~d
DeleteI'm really happy to see Princess Aiko coming into her own and doing her first solo engagement. She suddenly seems more grown-up, independent and more confident and will likely feel more comfortable holding her own when attending events and ceremonies in the presence of her parents. I don't think she much cares at the moment about sartorial matters and she is dressed by the IHA in any case who decides what she wears. Perhaps this too will change in time where she may have some say in the matter of her public clothes choices. I do like the colour of her suit, and the cuff and collar detail is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to this young princess.

The clothes are too big for her. Make her look old. The style of the shoes is too old for her too. The light green colour of her dress and jacket is not bad but should be combined with something fresh and young. like a colourful scarf or contrasting navy blue shoes and maybe a little navy handbag too.
ReplyDeleteGod Grief! The palace needs a new generation of rebels. She could wear vintage clothing that are well fitted with no jacket and at least look good.
ReplyDeleteSandy
DeleteThe Japanese court will not change quickly their fashion rules for the imperial household. Even in Europe women in a particular royal household are not free to follow fashion except the fashion of their own country and since most of these designer's style stopped somewhere in the late 40-tees, and the 50-tees you can imagine how boring they look. The royal ladies are not even free to use the nail polish of their choice. Hoping there will be some rebels who stand up pretty soon. With a bit of luck it is not too late for them too wear Caroline Herrera, Giorgio Armani, Oscar de la Renta, Giambattista Valli, etc...
DeleteVêtements pour dames plus âgées et trop terne pffffff ça la vieillie la pauvre princesse ..quel dommage 🥶🥶
ReplyDeleteAiko has become quite a lovely young lady. I agree that the clothes are a little "old" for her but the tradition of the Japanese Imperial House seems to be that all females young and old must don the requisite pearls, 60's era suit (preferably in a pastel color) and low heels.
ReplyDeleteShe is never going to dress like her near contemporaries Elisabeth Brabant in Belgium and Ingrid Alexandra of Norway.
Not only the Court and the Press would have a collective uproar, but so would the public I suspect.
What a confident, pleasant and genuinely lovely young lady/princess she is. Her first Press Conference, marvellous and well done to her.
ReplyDeleteTo those who are criticizing her fashion sense, I am sure she will come into her own with time, and wear what not only suits her but what she is comfortable in. With the strong traditions of the Japanese Imperial House, their will always be a certain criteria she will have to follow.
I love her pearl and diamond brooch, its exquisite. Her pearl necklace and earrings, beautiful accessories. The colour of her outfit is very pretty. The most lovely of all is her beautiful, gentle smile.
Her title is Crown Princess Elisabeth of Belgium, duchess of Brabant.
ReplyDeleteI know that, and I chose to refer to her as ELISABETH BRABANT. Thank you
DeleteOK. But Brabant is not her family name. The Belgian royals family name in the past was von Sachsen Coburg & Gotha. At a certain time I think around the first World War, King Albert I decided that the family name must be changed into of Belgium, (de Belgique (F), (van België (NL) and (von Belgiën (D) Complicated if you live in a country with 3 official languages. By the time King Phillip did his military duty and was called "Belgique", everybody was getting used to the new family name. His children when they went to school in Brussels were called Belgique or van België. When Elisabeth studied at the Royal Military School she was called van België or de Belgique according the language in which the instructions where given.... Hope my little historical explanation was not too boring...
DeleteShe is a lovely young woman in a regimented royal society. The clothing is chosen for her. God bless her for handling herself with grace and elegance in her first speech without her parents. As usual, the clothing is well tailored and lovely spring color. The broach seems a rather odd accessory, yet there must be some meaning behind her wearing the piece.
ReplyDeleteWell, ... at least she's probably comfortable. Goodness knows this outfit is fitting about as well as an oversized sweat shirt and pants. :-/
ReplyDeletePerfect analogy. ~d
DeleteShe is turning into a beautiful young lady despite mature looking clothing style. hs
ReplyDeleteEstamos hablando de moda. Ella va con ropa de señora mayor . Puede ponerse un traje mucho más juvenil.
ReplyDeleteEspero sepa encontrar su estilo. Lo que lleva es un uniforme.
