On March 30, 2022, King Philippe, Queen Mathilde and Prince Laurent of Belgium attended the annual spring concert at the Royal Palace in Brussels. During the traditional concert, the MP4 quartet performed a program by Franz Schubert, which was accompanied with a performance by dancers from the 2MAD dance school in Charleroi.
The King and Queen dedicated this year's spring concert to all those who have been involved in the fight against Covid-19 over the past two years. The King and Queen received medical and hospital staff, and representatives of residential care centers, pharmacists, members of provincial crisis units, the police and other institutions in the Throne Room.
Natan Rio Long Dress
I don't like the bare shoulder of this dress: because of the print and a lot of fabric in the right sleeve, it gives the idea the dress is unfinished and even a bit frumpy in the upper part. Hair, make-up and accessories are spot on and colours combine and suit well.

Is she wearing a sofa?
ReplyDeleteI like the gentle draping of the fabric of this gown, and I like the green background, but I think the floral print is overwhelming. Queen Mathilde's hair and makeup are perfect.
ReplyDeletePrints with little flowers are out of fashion. I never liked fabrics with little flowers or other little drawings, these made young women look like their own grand-mothers. I like everything of this outfit.
DeleteHow awful. There is nothing good about that dress. - Ellie
ReplyDeleteThat dress is absolutely atrocious. The print, the colour, the style, Qeen Mathilde needs helps.

ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the dress and its bolero, although my first impression on pic1 was rather positive. The dress has a classic design, while the asymmetric design of the bolero comes out better in a standing position. But to me there is something wrong with the hairstyling.
ReplyDeleteAgree, the hairstyle isn't flattering.
DeleteMi piace il vestito, le sta bene e se avesse avuto anche l'altra manica sarebbe stata perfetta.
ReplyDeleteDear Mathilde,
ReplyDeletePlease never wear this dress again. In fact, please ban all Natan dresses from your wardrobe. You are a lovely woman, and these dresses do NOTHING for you.
...Marie
Yesterday she wore Natan too and everybody liked it. Today it looks like the most of you can't say anything positive on this evening dress. Well I like it and Queen Mathilde is a beautiful woman (not extremely thin, but a lot of people don't like women who are extremely thin) and she can wear a dress with a bare shoulder. Some of the comments I read here as if Queen Mathilde was an abnormal ugly person. Well she is not, she is far more beautiful than a lot of other royal ladies whose beauty is fake (fillers, botox etc...). And her hair : a week ago everybody liked her hair in an updo, now all of a sudden the hair is not good anymore too. I think all the negative comments are coming from the same direction . . .
DeleteAnonymous 17:56, I agree that Mathilde is a naturally beautiful woman. I also like that she doesn't use botox, fillers, fake hair. What you see is real and that's to be applauded. Also, not all women are thin and that's fine, good for royal ladies to also show that you don't have to be a size Small to be beautiful.
DeleteHowever, Natan is not the best fashion house in my opinion. Mathilde wears a lot of Natan, but also Armani, Diane von Fürstenberg and Meer Couture - and I always prefer the latter 3. Mathilde is beautiful, it's just that Natan doesn't always dress her well - same when they dress Maxima.
That being said, this dress and the green/gray outfit she wore yesterday are some of the Natan clothes I actually like.
Also I like that Mathilde is one of those royals whose smile seems very genuine; she appears to have a very sunny disposition :)
Anon 17 56, I really don't understand your comments. I don't see any suggestion that Queen Mathilde is ugly. In fact it's the reverse. People are saying that she is a lovely woman, wearing an unflattering dress. Nor do i see any comment comparing her favourably or otherwise with other royals. Yesterdays dress was lovely and suited her well. This dress is okay but the bolero and the large pattern are not to everyone's taste. I fear you are taking offence, on Queen Mathilde's behalf, where none has been intended.
DeleteI don't think the design is bad at all. But hideous insect-looking florals covering are not a success.
ReplyDeleteWhen Princess Eugenie wears a black dress with big red and white flowers on Prince Phillip's remembering ceremony most of you dare say she was well dressed. I didn't like the dress which was too short to be long and too long to be elegant. I didn't wrote what I was thinking but I say it now. Not beautiful at all for a young woman.
DeleteNatan designs are very much a hit or miss ! They seem a hit and more flattering on Maxima, she knows how to wear the designs, usually with her personality showing through. Not so much on Mathilda. She looks at her best in more reserved looks, I’d go as far as delicate streamlined looks.
ReplyDeleteAll this hideous dress needs is a pussy bow & a tablecloth hemline to make it even more ugly. Oh, I see it's another Natan monstrosity. *Regina
ReplyDeleteThe gown in the first photo looks good, it drapes well, looked good in motion. The upper part for me is problematic, closer inspection, the bolero and then you have the unfortunate loud print. The idea for this gown was their but execution is a miss. Her accessories are great, and her makeup is natural. She is naturally a beautiful woman, who is lucky to be tall, looks elegant and graceful.
ReplyDeleteI'm also in the minority when I say that I think Mathilde looks quite good in this dress. This is the second time that she has chosen a full length Natan gown in a large bold print so she obviously likes them, and with good reason - because she is tall and fairly slender she can carry them well (as can Maxima) and looks good in them; but anyone shorter than them or generally more petite would be engulfed by the look. Perhaps that's why so many don't like these bold print Natan dresses - because it wouldn't work on them and they can't see past that. I like the pink against the green, and as a sheath dress on its own it looks very nice.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like the top bolero or whatever that is. I like the idea of something one-shouldered but there are better ways to execute that design idea than what she is wearing. One thing is for sure though, Natan calls attention to his work and to those who wear him, whether it's with his large belt buckles, bold prints or unusual designs.

I think she looks elegant and fabulous, so certainly at least the two of us are on the same page.

DeleteI think the other dress with the large flower print you are talking about is the one she wore on the recent state visit of Austria to Belgium. That was not a Natan dress but one designed by Dries Van Nooten and not new.
Natan and Dries Van Nooten are not the only designers who make dresses with a big flowers print. The fact that these dresses do not suit shorter women than Queen Mathilde is not relevant. It is about Mathilde we are talking not about anybody else.
I agree with anony08:41. I also think that views need to take into account the size of the owner, and not judging on behalf of shorter women who reject some features.
DeleteI now wish to give more positive views than the one I expressed on 31/03. This design is adapted to her morphology.
@Anon 8:41: My point is that people often don't think enough about who is wearing the dress/style/print/whatever. They think of themselves wearing it - even saying 'I'm not fond of that' or 'I'd never wear that therefore I don't like it before or now' and if they don't like it then it doesn't matter who is wearing it nor how well they are wearing it or how suitable it is for that person. Go back and read posts, especially recent ones about Mette Marit and Maxima and you'll see plenty of evidence of what I'm talking about.

Oh dear--Mathilde is a lovely woman and think she looks very pretty here. Do I like her dress? Not really. She looks wondeful in green and this shade of green is beautiful. What I do not like is the big splashy print--I said the same thing about an evening dress she wore about a week ago. I would like the print as a skirt with a solid top or bodice. As for the style, Mathilde wears an off shoulder dress very well so this dress is fine there. I am not sold on the bolero-style of cover--I think the dress looks better without it. I am generally not a fan of Natan when anyone wears his work but there are times when he gets it right but this not one of those times.
