On the morning of March 4, 2022, Crown Prince Frederik and his twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine of Denmark laid flowers in front of the Ukrainian Embassy in Copenhagen to show their support to the country.
In connection with the visit, Crown Prince Frederik said: "It is extremely saddening what we are experiencing in Europe just now, and it is heart-rending to follow the situation in Ukraine. My family and I are deeply touched by the pictures and reports we see each day.
Fortunately, we can also tell our children about the solidarity that the rest of Europe and the world community are showing the Ukrainian people, and about the great relief work that is underway. It is important that we maintain hope and share the good that also happens in the midst of all the awful things.
Before school started this morning, I and my youngest children stopped by the Ukrainian embassy. On behalf of my family, I send the warmest thoughts to the people of Ukraine."
This is very nice. Explaining what is going on to children is one of the most challenging things for parents to do these days. Children see and hear everything especially since access to news and social media is everywhere and they have questions. Many are confused and others are frightened. It's nice to see an example where empathy is part of the process of understanding this terrible situation.

Very well analysed.
DeleteQueen Margrethe has announced the annulation of a gala dinner which was to be held on the 11th March. If I understood well from the press information, it was to be for the Danish Armed Forces. The annulation, she explained, is due to the Ukraine crisis.
Delete""It is extremely saddening what we are experiencing in Europe just now..."
ReplyDeleteJust now??? This conflict has gone on for over 8 years - and hardly anyone has cared so far. And now that the aggression is coming from other side, the world suddenly discovers their sympathy with the people of Ukraine.
I believe all those who read of the downing of MH17, innocent people with nothing to do with either country, knew this conflict was ongoing. There is always a step too far and sadly things don't always get resolved before that.
DeleteA lovely fashion gesture on Letizia's part and a kind act on the Danish royals - also the British royal family - what this blog is about. Many of us know and have concerns beyond it.
Mieke
I agree with you
Delete/W. W.
Would you prefer no sympathy at all? Better late than never. Direct your distain at the one who deserves it, Putin!
Delete***My apologies to the moderator. I know this blog is not here for these conversations.***
and where was your indignation in the last 8 years?
DeletePutin troll detected.
Delete@Vanessa - Perhaps you should just rejoice that it's finally happened. We don't all know about everything that is going on. *Regina
DeleteIl est vrai que ce conflit dure depuis plus de 8 ans mais sans arriver à ce stade ; soyons de tout coeur envers le peuple ukrainien en essayant de lui apporter tout notre soutien de la manière la plus efficace possible !
ReplyDeleteThis is very touching, and sad. A marvellous gesture from the Royal family and it speaks volumes. Thoughts and prayers to the people of Ukraine.
ReplyDelete@Vanessa, and what have you done?
ReplyDeleteGet off your high horse and political agenda. Your demagoguery is just unnecessary.
MM
Hi MM,
DeleteThere is little I can do, just like most ordinary people.
I´m disappointed with those who have a larger voice in the world and have remained silent so far, and I´m irritated by everyone claiming or believing that this war only just started. Few people know or remember the background to this conflict. I find the escalation of the conflict just as appalling as everyone else and I support every call for peace, but I won´t make the mistake of demonizing one side while pitying the other. This situation is far more complex, and as far as I´m concerned, the Ukrainian/EU/Nato/US politicians are just as much guilty of escalating the conflict, plus western media does an outstandig job of taking russophobic rhetoric to a whole new level.
I don´t know what you mean by agenda - I am in no position to influence politics, and even if I did, I certainly wouldn´t execute it through a comment on a fashion blog. I´m sharing my thoughts and opinions here, just like everyone else.
A very kind, public, thoughtful, and pointed gesture by the Danish royals. Frederik's statement is from the point of view of a concerned parent as well as a leader. I am also impressed that we are seeing the Danish royals just going about their day while incorporating a simple gesture to show support for Ukraine.
ReplyDeleteI agree entirely, Janet.
DeleteHi, Vanessa.
ReplyDeleteI think you are referring to the Donbass war, which started eight years ago, maybe?
Well, there is a big difference.
In the Donbass war there were Ukrainian separatists fighting to be a part of Russia, whereas now Ukraine's sovereignity as a nation itself has been violated and they have a right to defend themselves.
I hope this won't t become a political blog, though.
Moreover, we should pay attention to the current and extremely serious situation.
We have to face a huge humanitarian crisis and out joint efforts and help are needed.
The more we stay united, the better.
The root of the conflict precedes the Donbass war and even Russia´s annexation of Crimea.
DeleteThe root of the conflict is a coup d´etat, with substantial financial and strategic support from the West, especially the US. And if that isn´t an attack on the nation´s sovereignty, then I don´t know what is.
Sorry Vanessa, it is an attack on...what nation?
DeleteOn the other hand, I do agree with you that whatver kind of support from royals and common people should have been shown to all other peoples affected by wars in other parts of the world.
DeleteAfrica is constantly torn by wars as well and refugees are often treated differently when escaping from conflicts and persecutions (this is only an example).
Vanessa
DeleteIn addition, I want to say that I know about the coup d'etat you mentioned and I can agree with you that there could be an
over- semplification of the situation on here.
You know, this not a political blog.
Anyway, we should focus on the current humanitarian crisis.
I do not think this is the right context to discuss political issues as well as the conflit root and escalation.
Vanessa
ReplyDeleteI just want to clarify that there are also actions from Russia in the ongoing conflict that are not complying with international law.
This a crucial point.
I am aware of Russian aggression, and I condemn it, just like the aggression from the other side.
DeleteLike in every war there will be no conquerer only loosers.
ReplyDelete@Vanessa, just what I thought. You are always jumping at the chance to get on the pulpit and regale us with your insight. Newsflash, some of us are pretty aware of what’s going on in the world, and the simple fact of a Royal family putting some flowers to honor the victims of a war, shouldn’t be an excuse for your constant platitudes, your comments reek of a delusional moral superiority, not to mention apologist comments about Mr. Putin, a cruel dictator, that continues his pursue of de stabilization of the west.
ReplyDeleteMM
MM:
DeletePlease calm down and remain civil.
I´m saying:
a) I see an over-simplification of the situation, both in terms of the timeline (it´s not a new war, but an escalation of an already existing conflict!) and it terms of its complexity (it´s not a clear-cut good-vs-bad situation)
b) the "West" is not without guilt in this and could have stopped this development but instead chose to provoke, humiliate and expand. Not to mention its aggressive rhetoric which is toxic to any diplomatic effort.
c) previous Nato behaviour undermines the legitimacy of its criticism towards Russia, meaning it is guilty of very similar, if not worse, aggression.
As far as royals are concerned, I think they should call for peace, and should have done so years ago. They shouldn´t side with anyone.
Also, I didn´t critizise anyone for putting down flowers to honor the victims. I do wonder though why they don´t put down flowers in front of a number of other embassies as well as there are numerous other dire conflicts in the world.
Evil and Greed at its worst....Dont let this form of Evil thrive and grow...Pray for Peace
ReplyDeleteAnd understanding !
This is a wonderful gesture by the Danish royals. Showing their support is touching showing the world no matter if you are high profile or not royals are affected as much as the ordinary person. This really shows the caring side of the royals. Let's hope peace comes to Ukraine sooner rather than later. Mary
