The Duchess of Cambridge is making a two-day working visit to Denmark. On the second day of her visit to Copenhagen, The Duchess first visited Amalienborg Christian IX’s Palace where she was welcomed by Queen Margrethe and Crown Princess Mary. After a reception, Crown Princess Mary hosted a private luncheon for The Duchess in Frederik VIII’s Palace.
Thereafter, Crown Princess Mary and The Duchess of Cambridge visited a crisis shelter for women. There, they attended a presentation about The Mary Foundation’s efforts for the approximately 2000 children who come to crisis shelters with their mothers each year.
Catherine Walker Marine Coat
The Duchess of Cambridge looks lovely, the coat suits her well. I don't know why Catherine wears all her clothes at mid-calf length, she is young and has beautiful legs why not knee length, it would still be classy and proper!!
ReplyDeleteMJT
Agree completely. Nothing to add.
DeleteI couldn’t agree more!
ReplyDeleteI managed to understand your comment, yes she must have a hip problem. Yes that should be taken into account in her clothing.
Deletei like it when Duchess Kate wears Catherine Walker coats, she looks very much high class society.
ReplyDeletejill
Yes but IMV this coat is too long.
DeleteAnother coatdress for the DoC ... where CPM looks modern, the DoC looks as if she's back in the 1960's. Somehow QM's skirt hangs uneven and it could have been 1 inch shorter, but I do like the large bow of her blouse. Because of the bow, the jacket could have done without a brooch.
ReplyDeleteMCS
I have to disagree. The white coat and opaque black hose "dates" Mary. Kate looks picture perfect and the gloves with the coat dress really seals the deal.
DeleteQueen Margrethe's skirts are always uneven because of a hip problem she has for several years now. I don't know exactly what it is but with all her short dresses and skirts you can see there is a problem with one of her hips.
Deleteso disappointed - great opportunity for D of Cambridge to shine, but that dowdy looking coat is so boring - another grey coat!?!?!?! Im afraid you cant just rely on any old thing from a good designer - as expected it looks beautifully made, but just dull and same old fit. Hair looks a bit girly too with the long soft curls for my taste, whereas CP Mary nails classic chic and polished look imo. Zed.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Duchess Catherine : Why not choose another colour. It is the same style like her grey dress with the black velvet collar. And she has the same fit in red, blue, burgundy, etc...
DeleteCrown Princess Mary : a younger dress style less formal.
Both women look amazing ! However it feels like CP Mary looks so much younger. Its something about the Duchess's dress sense that seems to make her age.
ReplyDeleteWe never get to see British Royals curtsy to others.
ReplyDeleteDP
We might not have seen it but you can be sure Kate curtsied to the Danish queen. There is no way she would be that rude and boorish not to do so.
DeleteInteresting point.
DeleteDoes anybody know the protocol in such a situation?
I am sure she did. What I said is that photos of it are never published. There are also no pictures of her curtsy to Dutch King when she visited Netherlands years ago, Bhutan as well.
DeleteThere are old photos of Diana, Sarah etc. curtsy, but in recent history not so much, except when impossible to avoid because something is public event with cameras everywhere, like visit to Belgium when Kate curtsied to the King of the Belgians.
DP
DOC curtsies to the Queen, CP Mary does too, if she hasn't seen her mother-in-law this day yet.
DeleteDeadeggs
DeleteI remember other royal women with different titles doing following this protocol on formal occasions such as state visits.
When they have the same or similar title (see CP Mary and Duchess Catherine), they hug and kiss each other without curtsying.
When a Crown Princess or future Queen Consort like Catherine meets a Monarch, she first kisses her and soon after she curtsies.
On the fashion front ...wow, just wow!!
Catherine and Mary are both so exquisitely elegant, sylish and classy, a pleasure to see this display of high end designer pieces.
Queen Margrethe is so warm ,lovely and dignified as always.
I can’t imagine Catherine wouldn’t apply the correct protocol and respect to HM ! The initial meeting, looks like it happened behind closed doors.
DeleteCatherine has been seen curtsying to King WA during her visit to the Netherlands. The same when she and William were presented to TM of Belgium !
Princess Anne curtsied Queen Letizia when the Spanish King and Queen visites G.B.
DeleteThere are several photos.
Mary's black and white combo looks very chic. Catherine's dress coat is not the best choice for her body type. - Siri
ReplyDeleteI think you´re right about Catherine´s body type. She is so slim and statuesque, and the length of her coat elongates her even more. I think she should opt for shorter, knee-length coats, ideally with some slight flare at the bottom or at least A-line in order to create some curves. I don´t mind the colour or style of her coat, it´s just not the right shape for her. I actually like the contrasting lapels and cuffs of her coat which look very classy, but unfortunately her hair covers up that feature very often.
DeleteMary looks fabulous her. I think I would have gone for slightly less opaque tights, but it´s not a big deal.
I think I have to agree with you. Somehow these styles are just not for her straight up and down narrow hipped shape. When i try to analyse why, I think it is just the extra long length she has taken to wearing. It just does not suit her it makes her look like a beanpole.
DeleteVanessa
DeleteI think you are right about the length of Catherine's coat elongating her even more.
While I love her ensemble, I would have preferred a shorter hem and A- line and slight flare at the bottom.
I like the gray colour and the elegant black lapels and cuffs.
She looks so sylish and professional.
Mary is really fabulous and so ladylike.
I would say that these royal ladies seem to be kindred spirits.
Kate is really championing a great cause too.
Kudos to them both for rocking those sky-high heels on the cobblestones! That's quite an achievement on its own. As for the rest of the outfits, I am on the CPM camp - she manages to appear so fresh, modern while still classic and, dare I say, younger than DoC, despite being a whole decade older. DoC can do much better than this. Some times I feel like she tries too hard to portray a much more conservative persona than she really is just because she wants to be taken seriously as a future queen consort. We have all noticed her total almost-overnight shift from skinny jeans and miniskirts to buttoned up maxi dresses and coats. CPM on the other hand is the living proof that you can be serious, professional, classy without resorting to dowdy and boring looks, she has really mastered the modern-classic style like nobody else (Letizia is the only other royal that comes close, with a few exaggerations here and there)
ReplyDeleteWaiting to see the photos from the joint engagement in the afternoon, maybe they changed outfits and hopefully DoC sported a more exciting look.
Beyond the fashion, I am really curious to see what concrete results and/or cooperation will come out of this visit. Maybe we will hear more in the near future.

Anon 16:38, yes my feet ache just looking at them, looking as if they're walking barefoot on soft grass. Where its painful sharp pointed toe and sky scraper stiletto's!
DeleteE.d' A
DeleteI think most of royal ladies have been doing a lot of " training" on those sky- high stilettos since the very first moment they entered royal life and began their publc engagements.
I can assure you from my personal experience that when you have to wear heels for a long time, there some "tricks and tips" to ease your walking and standing ,i.e.silicon feet protections.
They are so helpful.
Duchess Kate looks classic chic. 💜
ReplyDeleteI think she has chosen the perfect outfits to her jobs in Denmark.
I don't like CP Mary's coat, more retro 60s than chic imo.
LL
Perhaps the two ladies should dress exactly the same, so you nice people wouldn't have to make negative comments. Both ladies look great and each is dressed to her own taste. QM looks nice too. Ann B
ReplyDeleteAgree, there is literally nothing wrong with their looks.
DeleteDP
Personally, I find the differing views interesting rather than negative. However, Ann, I am happy to be positive for both outfits. I love Catherine's coat which is both elegant and stylish (though it might benefit from being a little shorter). I love her bag as well. Mary's white coat is also great, though less formal. Looking at some of the photos, they could easily be sisters. Great to see them together.
Delete@Ann B, why can people have different views in fashion? Every single comment is respectful, and directed to their outfits. Are you trying to be the fashion police here? So only certain opinions shall be expressed. If that is so, you should only write when you LOVE it, I believe I have seen some of your comments disliking some styles. What’s next, a disclaimer stating “ only likes” allowed.

Something else that I noticed: CP Mary seems almost as tall as Kate (both wearing same height heels), I always thought she was an "average" height but I was wrong.
ReplyDeleteE.d'A.
I noticed that straight away as well. C.P. Mary is a lot taller than I thought. Maybe she usually looks shorter because most of the photo's we see are amongst the Danes and they are very tall as a nation so she usually looks about average height amongst them.
DeleteI think I have read that CP Mary is around 5'8" and Catherine is slightly taller, around 5'9". You can see the Duchess is a bit taller in the photos with HM.
DeleteYes.. It is today only that I realised C. P. Mary is much more taller than I think off
DeleteSee Mary in heels beside her husband. she looks as tall as him. In ballerinas or sneakers she is a head smaller than him. The shoes create the height naturally. She is 172 cm. He is 183 cm.
DeleteBoth royal ladies look fabulous. I admire the programs they support to improve the lives of children (and mothers). That is where their beauty lies.
ReplyDeleteBoth ladies look elegant. Kates coat could have been slightly shorter.
ReplyDeleteI think these coats are getting a bit boring for her, they add years to her look.
Kate looks better in stronger colours why they dress her in drab colours I do not understand, I know it is winter but ladies wear the colours that suit your complexion.
Kate would have curtsied to the Queen on meeting her, so would PCM. that is royal protocol.
Absolutely gorgeous these two never fail to disappoint. Looks so cold in Denmark yet cosy. Mary
ReplyDeleteKate fell back on her tried and true "safe" style. I would have loved seeing her try something a little different, especially while visiting Mary, who doesn't adhere to a "uniform". While there is nothing wrong with impeccable tailoring, wearing a variation of the same style is tiresome. I much prefer Mary's coat for it's unique look and retro vibe. What I don't like are opaque tights with pumps. It is my personal preference. It is the only problem I have with Mary's outfit. I think Kate's style is stuck. Her hair could use an update, and while her figure makes it possible for her to wear so many things, she is choosing styles that make her look like a stick figure. Shortening her hems and creating curves with her clothes are a good place to start. I agree with those that said Kate appears older than her years. Clothes can make such a difference. A final note about Margrethe's hems. I am surprised that her clothes are not tailored to disguise the difference in her hips. It would be very simple to hem her dresses and skirts to be even with the floor to disguise the problem. Then again, she may not care at all and have a "take me as I am" attitude. I can admire that.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to hearing the outcome of her visit. Kate has championed such a great cause, and I hope she is able to make a tremendous impact. ~d
The "take me as i am attitude" works just with Q Margrete? Because with Maxima you are generally picky (and boring) with every detail.
Delete/W. W.
@W.W. Margrethe is elderly and has a medical condition. She has earned the right to be comfortable. She still makes a tremendous effort when it is called for. I don't comment on her or any of the older royals much because I think at a certain age no one is about to make any changes. They have a style and they stick to it.
DeleteMaxima is a young queen and can do better. She has no good excuse for turning out in dreadful clothes that don't fit or suit her body. If you are going to spend money on clothes, they might as well be the right ones.
Since you find my thoughts so boring, feel free to skip right over them until you have mastered reading comprehension. Really shouldn't have to rehash Margrethe's hip ailment and emphasize her age to explain my comment. ~d
@d
Deletethe idea that QMaxima "can do better" and that she has dreadful dresses is just y o u r opinion.
Mine is different.
And i find boring that any time under her pics, people complain about her hair. Maybe she too has a medical condition. Or shall we presume that you are informed about all the royals state of health?
Last thing: if "i must master reading comprehension"you for sure must take lessons of politeness.
/W. W.
@W.W. You have made some assumptions that are not true. My opinion that Maxima has, for the most part, an unattractive and ill-fitting wardrobe is not just my opinion. The vast majority of the comments lean in the same direction. If your opinion is different, sing it loud and proud. That is what everyone else does. It doesn't make either one of us wrong.
DeleteI don't know why you have brought up Maxima's hair with me. What do I have to do with your "bored" state regarding the reactions to her hair? I don't comment on her hair. I have made several statements about it over the past years. I cannot see any point in repeating the same thing over and over again. Likewise, I don't usually comment on repeat outfits, unless I really liked them the first time, or I can't remember if I have previously commented. I have also suggested her hair could be suffering from a medical condition. I believe I said that twice in the past. How did you make the leap to, "Or shall we presume that you are informed about all the royals state of health?" You went somewhere I never did, and dragged me along with you. You can check back and see my most recent comment regarding Maxima's hair. It is under the post of Maxima and W-A greeting the Olympians. "In keeping with my personal rule about not commenting on her [Maxima's] hair unless it is a good hair day, what great hair!" BTW, I also liked what she was wearing that day. I am not anti-Maxima.
Regarding your last comment: I stand by my statement that your reading comprehension is lacking. As I have shown above, you included me in a group of people that bore you over Maxima's hair, yet I made the above statement about her hair in the same visit to this blog as I made the comments about Kate, Mary and Margrethe. As for politeness, I do not recall responding to a post of yours by telling you that you are "boring". You are welcome to be as bored as you please. It is just one of those things we teach our children to keep to themselves lest people think them rude. In my experience, if a person finds something boring, they avoid it. I must confess that I am thrilled to discover that I have this previously undiscovered ability to draw someone to something so undesirable. If I had only known this while I was bringing up my children!
Do you think the silhouettes would have been improved if the 2 women had been wearing 4 inch stacked heels instead of these pointy 6 inch stilettos?
ReplyDeleteThey are not wearing six inch stilettos. You exaggerate. You sound salty because you can't wear the same shoes.
DeleteAnon 5.32: how old are you? 12?
DeleteTwo lovely and chic ladies! CP Mary's looks is very fresh and modern--she has had that white coat for a number of years. The Duchess is wearing a very pretty and feminine retro style coat--to me that coat is very's 1940s. Love both outfits and hope this is the beginning of a partnership because both ladies have similar interests with children. The photos with HM are also terrific--everyone looks relaxed and enjoying the visit.
ReplyDeleteAgree Janet.
DeleteQ Margrethe is such an exceptionally talented and highly intelligent lady who just radiates warmth. I am sure meeting her felt a bit intimidating, it would for me. Her bow is a bit OTT but it is Queen M. Lovely outfit, great brooch and I actually am a bit impressed she doesn’t have the skirts tailored to hide her offset alignment. It shows her commitment and endurance (in her 80’s) and may encourage others who are unable to hide something to live their lives boldly- like P Eugenie and her scoliosis.
Same with CP Mary who other than changing the opaque tights (which after being on the fence I am giving in to my latest leaning about not liking such tights as much- the less opaque/sheer ones scream 1980’s for daywear so at least she didn’t go there) looks lovely too.
For D Catherine, a very intelligent woman herself, in her lovely coat dress, gloves and bag she look great too. I think she puts in a little bit more refined looks to show her respect in more formal situations- I like it. She’s meeting a monarch Would have loved a color besides gray (especially in winter) but I agree with those who saw a 40’s look- those lapels.
I also agree about the ladies’ very worthy programs and the overlap which occurs being a net benefit which I truly hope it brings.
Glo
Cobble stones and stilettos do not go together. Well my favourite person would have to be Queen Margrethe, I like her happy style .I do like Mary's coat. The lady's are both working for a good cause.
ReplyDeleteWhat a marvellous visit. Both Royal ladies looked lovely, to a certain degree they have different styles and I appreciate that. CP Mary looked very chic and stylish, the scarf over her shoulder once outside, I love this. The grey earrings (looked to be on my computer screen) are a marvellous size, beautiful substantial sized pearls. I liked the length of her dress and coat. Her dark stockings and shoes, I prefer this look. I do love the style of CP Mary's hair, it is well groomed but free flowing, the perfect length, to enhance her face.
ReplyDeleteDuchess of Cambridge looks lovely in her CW coat, looks to be black dress underneath. Her gloves and bag, divine. Catherine's hair I remember back in the day, before the first wave of Covid hit I think, she had it near to the same length as CP Mary's hair and it looked splendid. At some point hair can grow too long and it is difficult to maintain, control (speaking from personal experience) or at least style well, its okay if its a up style, but left out, it can be problematic, the overall appearance is spoilt, but that is just my personal opinion. The Queen looked wonderful, I love her colourful blouse and tie against the dark blazer, beautiful
I agree again with your comment, Ava.
DeleteAs to long hair, I have to say you are quite right as I am experiencing the same situation.
You see, when hair is a dark colour and long (like Catherine), you have some problems to mantain it, but dyeing can be done only on your regrowth and you can postpone the overall treatment for a while.
More issues arises when you have blonde hair, which are the most difficult to maintain.
This is my hair, as I am a naturally dark blonde but I prefer fairer shades, such as champagne or platinum highlights.
This kind of treatment needs a lot of products and constant cure ,because on the one hand I have to tame my long hair and keep it off my face at work and on the other hand I have to use toning products to avoid bad yellowish effects on the bleached parts of my hair.
As to Catherine's and Mary's outfits ,I like them very much, this is timeless elegance, really exquisite,
The Queen is beautiful too.
Lucky not everyone starts an explanation about their hair. On this fashion
Deleteblog it is not you we are discussing but the way the princesses and queens and sometimes also the princes and kings are dressed and do their hair.
P. original, your hair should interest us?
DeleteAnon. 24/2/22 15:28 and 20:46
DeleteSince you are craving for an answer from me, I can assure you that I would not be surprised in the least if anyone talked about their hair, quite the opposite.
Whatver is fashion related, either regarding royal ladies or commenters or both of them and expressed without rudeness is welcome to me
Sorry, I cannot say the same about your comments where you are not " discussing" anything about this current visit.
As someone told you prevoiusly, if you are bored , annoyed or whatver, feel free to skip right over my posts.
Thank you.
Pictures of these two always make me so happy. I imagine P Mary enjoying the opportunity to speak English with great gusto.
ReplyDeleteBoth women are flawlessly dressed.
It's very seldom Mary wears stockings. She can go bare legged even in winter, which I find very odd. When she wears stockings they are black like in this situation never nude. Overall I prefer Catherine's style.
ReplyDeleteCatherine de Cambridge porte un ravissant manteau, mais bien trop long!!!
ReplyDeleteMARIAMAR
@P The original, is called self awareness. The truth is that I don’t think there is one person interested in the hair of someone they don’t know, and the obvious explanations about how one takes care of their mane, perhaps if you could show us pictures, maybe? No, I am kidding :-) TMI. Let’s stick to the Royal ladies.
ReplyDeleteC not the original.
C more or less original
DeleteWell, you see, you did intrude into a view exchange between me and Ava, who did not seem to be surprised in the least about what I said.
I would never intrude into an opinion exchange like you did.
Self awareness?
Well , surely it is better than low self and negativity being spread everywhere and bad manners too.
I like these royal ladies and I take care of myself as well.
Nobody said anything about my hair but you, so I have to think you are annoyed .
Just move on, please.
Bye
Did it occur to you that there could be two "Anonymous" bloggers who share the same opinion ?
DeleteBut you belong to the bloggers who think they have always right. And if someone does not agree with your point of view, he/she is rude.
Think about that.
This is a public blog and your exchange of views with other bloggers can be commented from anyone. If you dont want intrusions make a phone call.
ReplyDeleteWell said !
DeleteP The original, whatever you mean about intrusions? People respond to comments as they wish, if you don’t wish to be addressed, then don’t post. Seems like you don’t realize that most of us don’t much care about your own hair. Yes, you are free to go on and on and so are we about noting the fact that you aren’t the subject of this blog. If you feel offended perhaps you could start your own and see if we follow. Don’t take it so seriously !
ReplyDeleteMM
No, I am not offended in the least and I am aware that some people are not to be taken seriously not only on this post.
ReplyDeleteI just responded two days ago since my answer was so craved for and still seems to be.
To almost all people my saying " bye" did not mean that I was going away but simply" I do not want to reply any more .End of discussion for me"
As @~d already said in her so well articulated comment, reading comprehion is lacking in some pointless comments, so all your subsequent blathering does not come unexoected to me.
Now, carry on alone if you want .
Sorry for you.
You should realize at some point that people do not want to interact with you anymore.
P, you surely love the attention, your dramatic statements are just a little juvenile. The fact that somebody pointed out that your hair is irrelevant to this blog, shouldn’t provoke such huffing and puffing, just put on your big girl pants and recognize that such subject isn’t interesting, and move on. Also telling people that you don’t know , how others won’t interact with them is assuming a bit much. This is just a blog about royal ladies activities and fashion, no the P blog.
ReplyDeleteMM
I don't think Catherine's coat dress is one of her best "looks" in my opinion it appears very 80s and very much like something the Princess of Wales would have worn.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved Mary's white coat and yet again I think her ensemble is elegant, stylish and timeless.
